Holy smokes!
All we got was a little bit of rain and we heard some thunder but it never got too close.

Left Cheboygan this morning around 6:30.

Headed to Grand Haven Municipal Marina.
We should be there around 3:00 PM.

Does anyone know if if there is someone I could hire to guide us through the river system in Chicago?

It is very straight forward…. What specifically has you concerned?
We have height restrictions that keep us out of the downtown route.
I’d like to get down to the lock at Joliet tomorrow night if possible.
If we get down that far we need to know where we can tie up and plug in.

What is your height?….I can ask a friend who has done the loop a couple times and he is going to ask me

The bridge height they the city is 17’3”. Need to clear that.

In Joliet, before the lock there it a free wall you can use. I believe it has power.

I believe you need to be less than 19.7 feet to clear the fixed railroad bridge on the sanitary and ship canal dependent upon the pool level. This is around mile 300. You need to be able to clear this bridge whether you are traveling through Chicago or taking the Cal-Sag channel (calumet river). Entering the river system by Hammond, Indiana.

I think we have resolved that we are going through the Calumet.
We have a 5’ draft and don’t want to take any chances on the bottom.
We’d like to get to the Brandon road lock tomorrow while entering the river around noon.
We need to plug in and top off tomorrow just before the Brandon Road lock and before dark
We need some guidance because we have special requirements.

Fill up with fuel.
Plug in with 2 - 50 amps.
Tie off a 70’ boat with 5’ draft.
Not get murdered in my sleep.
Be ready to lock through between the hours of 6 PM and 6 Am Monday night/Tuesday morning (due to lock restrictions).

I would stop in Hammond for fuel. Once you enter the river system, I do no believe there is a facility with 50A service or fuel until Harborside on the other side of the Brandon Road lock. The Joliet Free wall only has 30A service.

According to the info I found, your anchor light should be 17'3" allowing you no issues with the fixed railroad bridge at MM304.

Lock your fuel caps…. More likely to wake up to empty tanks then being dead…..

Not sure you will find 50 amp at the Joliet wall, Heritage Harbor at Ottawa Ill is a good stop with fuel, dockage, 50 amp no problem, but a long shot from Grand Haven for sure. Once you enter the rivers you are at the mercy of the Tows, locks and bridges. Hammond marina is a good stop with historically great fuel prices but, a stretch to get past Joliet in a day

So Hammond Marina is past Brandon Lock?
If so how far?
