500/520 DB official thread

Probably 2009 when they lengthened the cockpit, updated the galley, lower galley storage area and bunk room.

Agreed, my 2007 has the pullout bed under the starboard side same as the diagram in Tom’s post.

One thing to note is I question the capacity of the hydraulic cylinder that raises and lowers the post. The seals in mine blew and when I got into it I found a pretty tiny hydraulic cylinder with a 1-inch piston and 5/8-inch rod. My friends davit on their 550DB has also blown the same seal. So to limit the stress on that cylinder I fully lower then tap the raise button a bit so high pressure isn't locked up against that seal. Some pics when I had it apart a couple of months ago.

Yeah that is small. The first week we ever had the boat, mine "froze" and quit working. In hind site, I think I was in the dinghy when we raised it. Probably over weight. But I don't remember blown seals being the issue. I will ask my yard if they keep records back that far and see what was done. Did you just replace seals Tom? The reason I am asking is I am thinking about going from our 11' Boston Whaler to a 13'. Loaded weight is 1000lbs roughly. I've got friends in the hydraulic business that could conceivably beef that system up. M

I gave the cylinder to our local Hydraulic shop and they had it rebuilt in a day. I did replace the hydraulic hoses - that was the most expensivist part of the entire rebuild.
I was considering a Boston Whaler until I put a friends the platform - It was simply too big. The davit picked it no problem. So I ended up with a Highfield.

The whaler is big, but it came with the boat. So putting one 2' longer is probably a nonstarter. We just can get thru the cockpit door as it is. My only complaint is nonaccess to the "trunk". If I could move my davits aft I would, but I don't think I can move them 2-3' aft to be able to access it.

To update about my crane, it was just the start capacitor. A $17.50 part that cost close to $500 to replace...

Regarding "beefing it up" - when it is all stuffed in the post (cylinder, hose and cable tube, hoses, cable, spacers) there is almost no room for anything else. I'm not sure a bigger diameter cylinder could be fit.
 
Has anyone added a breaker to the DC panel that is located in the lazarette on the starboard side? I'm planning to add one and wonder what type or brand of breaker fits.

In case you haven't been in that panel before - it is segregated into four separate electrical quadrants that are all fed separately from the main disconnect panel. There is the Port Switched, Port Unswitched, Starboard Switched, and Starboard Unswitched. Switched, meaning the main disconnect solenoids turn that quadrant on/off and Unswitched is direct to the batteries through a main circuit breaker in the main disconnect panel.
 
Anyone know where to get the round air diverters on the bridge?

Still chasing a solution to this leaky spot on the bridge. Both port and starboard windshield bases allow rainwater in. I have been trying to channel the port side to the stern and let it drip off the bridge but the water always seems to drip down the steps.

I think I finally found a good drip edge from www.steelrubber.com but wanted to see if you guys have figured out a better way to keep the rainwater from entering the bridge all together.

Appreciate any tips you have dealt with this issue.
