500/520 DB official thread

I had this happen - ended up being the water level sensor. The sensor is located under the top in the front right corner. It took more time to pull the unit forward than replace the sensor. If I remember correctly it was like $60.
Did you clean out the water pump strainer? That is located behind the kickplate on the right side. When you open that all of the water in the tub will exit the machine....

The water level sensor failed, and that caused it to lock up?

Do you happen to have a link to the part?

It's actually a pressure switch that senses water level.
It's been five or six years so link long gone.... It looks like this -

We put a couple items in and started it. At some point it stopped running (with water inside), and several of the lights were solid. I tried the troubleshooting steps, such as holding one of the buttons down, I unplugged it, etc, but it stayed in that state. I had to pull it out in order to manually release the door in order to get the clothes out.

Based on some internet research, I removed and replaced a large capacitor, but nothing changed. At that point my body had enough of working in that tight space.

Given that it’s 12 years old, I hesitate to hire someone to try to repair it. But I’m game to try another repair.

I had similar issues with mine. Was intermittedly working as well. Turned out the power supply had a bad connection and was burning up. Hardest part was getting the machine slid out to take the top off.

Westland is very helpful in providing trouble shooting ideas and drawings

Door latch duplicated. More to come. I had a local metal shop duplicate it. $250 if unplated, over 1 grand if plated. It's bronze with plating. I went unplated for now. It will be a couple months before I can place it, but if anyone interested once I am done, it will be less expensive with multiple orders. I will create a thread once it works.

Just called deangelo marine. The exhaust tube is original. Manufactured in 2004. Amazing they keep the records still. $475 will be done in 3 days. He says new one will last forever.

I replaced both my 8"x34" Stainless Steel Exhaust Pipes in September 2021. Thought and hoped they would last for 7-10yrs. Like others, my grounding wire was disconnected on both SS Pipes at that time. I reconnected and replaced both of the Pipes with DeAngelo OEM.

However one is leaking again (pin holes) and the other looks like it has small rust spots getting ready to leak. I called DeAngelo and they are under warranty (3yr) and they will send two new 316L SS Tubes but claim the issue is a growing problem and they believe the Stainless metal is not the same quality they use to be able to get.

They are now recommending to go to a High Nickel content ALX6N versus 316L SS. Of course the upgraded ALX6N versions will cost me $1k or buy time again with the new 316L SS version for free.

Wonder if I flushed the motors more often if it will help so the brackish water isn't sitting in the pipes.

That doesn't sound right - did you verify less than 1 ohm between that bonding tab and your zinc attaching bolts at the transom? You should be able to get easily ten years out of those pipes if they are in fact 316 SS. The risers OK? Are the engine zinc's being consumed? Is the transom zinc being consumed?

I replaced mine with fiberglass tubes in 2012. While I sold the boat in 2014 to a friend who then sold in in 2021, to the best of my knowledge they are still holding tight.

DeAngelo is stated they are having more and more issues with these SS Pipes however I will check the resistance between those two tabs. I replace the Zincs every 6-8 months and they are eat into 50% or less usually.

I as well changed to high temp fiberglass pipes in 2018 and have not had an issue with them since. Been to KW & back to middle Chesapeake Bay twice and around the bay a fair amount with no issues since then on the FG pipes!

John:
What made you change from the SS to Fiberglass Pipes?

Has anyone rebuilt the Dometic Seastar helm pump on our boats?
I believe they are Part Number HH6541 Classic Tilt but not sure...
I noticed a couple of drips of hydraulic fluid so it is probably due for seals.
There is a Seastar HP6032 service kit for the shaft seal but that's all I can find out.

Any help / experience?
Thanks
Tom

Looking for the information Tom but I think I replaced my Tilt Helm with a new Sport Tilt Helm. My wheel was squeaking when I turned the wheel and the manufacture (and other users) told me there was no way to grease or correct the noise. Couldn’t find the receipt last night but I did find this picture. I believe it is the original equipment helm. I will dig more today.

HH5741 - Thanks!

The squeaking wheel update was just the front (from plastic to metal) the actual pump did not get replaced when I did mine. However I did rebuilt my pump on my Princess. It was not hard, seal kit and cleaning.

It looks like the seal replacement kit is Dometic Seastar P/N HS5176. They are discontinued from what I can determine but there are knockoffs on Amazon. I found one Dometic Seastar brand and got that.

I'd suggest if you can find a brand kit, get it for your spares chest.

Finally had time to get back to repairing the Splendide washer/dryer, but no luck. I’m going to call them tomorrow and see if I can find someone to repair it, but wondering if anyone has had theirs replaced. It looks like the hatch/door to the laundry room would have to be removed just to get the unit out.
