480 DB Owners Club

I replaced my amp and a few speakers two seasons ago with newer Clarion stuff. Now I'm thinking about redoing it with Wet Sounds or JL...

The amp is nearly impossible to get to. I'm 5'11" and 160 lbs so I can almost sit upright under the dash when going in through the large access panel. Not something I'm looking forward to doing again.

Thanks. A royal pain for sure. My plan is JL and mount the new amps in the cabinet below the salon TV. Feed all speaker wires and RCA down, etc. However, need to access what is there to extend or eliminate.

I actually just finished running an Ethernet cable, HDMI cable and wiring for (2) cameras and EGT gauges from the bridge to the salon cabinet then onto the engine room. Luckily, I left a chase wire in place.

I have a question about the shifters. My previous 340 had real smooth shifters. On the 480, the shifters are stiff and more difficult to move. When I disconnect from tranny, they are easy and smooth, tranny shifts smoothly when not attached. The tension screw is not a factor as well at the helm. So why when connected is it more difficult. There is an angle from the plate for cable attachment to tranny shift lever. However this looks factory and both engines have the same plate. Any thoughts?? Thanks

I think that's just the way Hynautic controls are. I used to run a boat that had them and I had to use both hands to shift it. Cummins powered 480's have Morse controls which are like your old 340.

QT, thanks for feedback. What a bummer. I guess the upside is that it is hard to accidentally shift.

Hey Boltman,

Were you able to get this done? How did you make out? I may try and get mine done before spring, if i get my kitchen completed...

Yes I was but I used 2"x3" nylon bars bolted them together so the were 2x6 because the lifting arms are 6" wide and 48" long raised it 2" now I've got to wait until the pull her out of the barn to see if it snugs up to close to the Aft when all the way up. I'm thinking I've changed the Geometry of the fit so I'll adjust before she goes into the water . ImageUploadedByTapatalk1458353400.453662.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1458353419.577781.jpg

I'm going to probably put doing mine off till next year. Just too much going on at the house to screw with it this year. I am extremely interested though on how yours works out. May need to copy it...

thanks again

Hey 48DB guys, I just installed Infinity PVC flooring on a 2002 48DB. I am a dealer for Infinity marine flooring and advertise here on CSR. Anyway, I now have templates so if interested, shoot me an email info@thecanvasmedic.com

I can send you samples to look at. Here are a few pics.

Yeah it came out great. We used the same color binding as the existing canvas "Heather Beige" Sunbrella.

That happens to be my boat and Dave did an exceptional job. His workmanship and professionalism was second to none. We chose the look to be similar to what Tiara and Chris Craft are using on their newer builds. Tried to keep it clean and classic. Thanks to Dave and Clubsearay for helping me find a guy who had the access to the product.

Had the boat out today for a 3 hour cocktail cruise and looked down at my gauges and there it was 2998 total hours. And she purred with those kittens running .

I just recently got back the results of transmission oil analysis and found elevated levels of copper and iron. The report suggested it could be related to the cooler core leeching/failing or sintered bronze disc. It said to check filters for larger debris (they were discarded before the results came back) and recheck in 100 hours.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what did you do about it?

Scott, My twin disc transmissions don't have a filter, just the basket type strainer in the housing. (unless that's what they are referring to) Are you comparing the levels to an earlier sample? If not I would retest in 50-100 hrs. Also was there any discoloration or smell to the SAE40 oil? Or had you noticed the temps high on the trans temp gauge. (GA-4 on your EMS) Has the trans oil cooler ever been cleaned and tested? I have only tested my trannys once so don't have a comparison as to levels rising or not. I am however currently cleaning and testing ALL coolers on both engines.

Mquiet, I found an old shift cable tucked away in the other cable/wire bundle that was for the port trans. Found the other end tucked away at helm. Since I am adding trolling valves to the trannys I decided to see if it worked well enough to use for that purpose. Unconnected it moved with ease. Connected the tranny end and was next to impossible to move at the helm. Deduction, inner jacket is worn causing binding when sliding inner core through outer jacket. So if your shifting gets worse, I would replace the shift cable. not that hard to do. Beer will be involved :lol:

Cherman, that is what I concluded was the problem. I will be ordering a new set once I can see the numbers on the cable for the length.
