480 DB Owners Club

Ok, let me try again. Do any of you have a Sub-Zero refridge with a control like this picture? It is on the bottom front of the unit. As with many of the systems on the boat we bought in October, I do not have the owners manual or any other documentation so I am having a time trying to figure out how this works. I can't find a model number anywhere that I have looked so far, so I have been unable to find anything online. Help!

Ours is in the back of the unit. Sorry..

some good posts... are they still available somewhere?

This has probably been discussed somewhere in this thread but has anybody found an LED bulb for the salon dimmable lights?

Years ago I put an LED in there and the dimmer control got hot and smelled like it was going to catch fire. Needless to say I just went back to the G4's.

Keith, after alot of investigating, I wound up taking the fridge and the freezer out and to a local dealer. I had issues with the freezer so I figured take both in since it was apart. Fridge was ok, freezer was $174.00. Sensor and a new icemaker. They are the original sub zero brand. I believe there are samsung units out there that will fit but get ready to dig dee . $$$. They are back in and we launch in about two weeks. Hopefully no issues.

Aaron - I put LEDs in my bridge lights and the dimmer would not work. My Dockmate said put one regular G4 in and the rest LEDs. That worked. I probably need one of the “rocket scientists” here to explain why (ttmott - you know who I mean!)

My fridge frosts up and has to be defrosted about every two weeks. That entails a complete shut down and sometimes scraping ice from the coils. It is a pain. I have adjusted the door and casket trying to get an air tight seal.....no luck.

Most importantly - are the LED's dimmable? I think for the bridge lights I used these dimmable "warm white" lamps from Marinebeam.com https://store.marinebeam.com/10-led-side-mount-bi-pin-g4-x-beam-150-lumens/
In my boat there are two lamps in each fixture both on the bridge and the aft deck.
Dimmers for LED cannot be resistive but rather must be Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) dimmers. The difference being resistive dimmers change the voltage to dim and PWM dimmers rapidly turn on and off the lamp to dim but voltage remains constant.
I ended up changing the dimmers to the Blue Sea Systems Deckhand dimmer - https://www.bluesea.com/products/7507/Deckhand_Dimmer_-_12V_DC_12A
The existing helm switch can be used with this dimmer which is great..
Hope this helps

Thanks Carter - I've changed the 12v bridge and cockpit bulbs to LED with no issue. Our salon ones on the dimmer are 110v so that's my issue.

Thanks Tom,

I knew you would know the reason.

My fridge seems to want to drain water toward the stern of the boat. This is issue as I think the drains in the units have them working forward. It's a pain in the summer.

I have a salon blind that is on its last breath. I’m going to change the blinds and looking to take one off. How does the top track come undone? It is snug and I can’t tell if it is screens to the boat or snapped in a clip. Also, any advice on what type of blinds and where to order replacements would be appreciated.

Keith, have you replaced the gasket? We just did that this spring and it helped a lot. I wasn't frosting up as much as you, but a couple times a season. Mike

I have a 1998 480 Sedan Bridge I just bought. I got it home Thursday from Fort Myers, FL to my place in Perdido Key, FL. I was told that their is a center cushion you can get for the couch up in the helm area. Apparently you lower the table top down with a shorter pipe and then sit the cushion on top of the table top. Effectively converting it into a huge couch instead of the U shape it normally is. Any help would be appreciated.

Norman, if you send a pic of the area, and its the same as a 2003, I can make one for you based off of ours. Let me know..

Where did you order the gasket? I am still looking at possibly replacing both the fridge and freezer, which is an expensive upgrade. If I can find the gasket I may put off the replacements until another year.

Yes that is correct, my boat has both the pipe and the cushion. I must say, we really dont use it that often.

SubZero fridge/freezer (model 249RP and 249FFI respectively) the door seal part # is 7010609 and I got replacements from Midwest Parts Distributing @ 1800-832-3166 @ $69 each.
