You are in for such a rude awakening... I guess that's why Frank W. had to lease a shed by the marina to store his spare boat parts.

I don't care if Ron cancels you or not! I'm still charging your credit card for two nights at Dom's Marina.

Is this the place that forces you to run the genny all night because they have a $1.43 brown extension cord feeding power to the docks?

I don't know about a rude awakening, but Damn these and any big boats are expensive to have and maintain..I'm reading watching and investigating. Spare parts is a must, when I saw that your push rod spung a leak I went right down to take a look at mine, so foar so good, but I'm just waiting...It must just be these boats are getting old.....Do you think it might have something to do with the salt water as well, Because us fresh water people, don't have as many problems, I've heard..... but we shall find out shant we?

I don't think think mine had anything to do with saltwater. You can't tell the difference back there in my boat from a freshwater or a saltwater boat. Water doesn't get back there. I think it may have been caused when my system blew a hose and ran dry.

Who knows though... There's just a lot of stuff to break... I'm not complaining. Heck... this is my hobby. I love working on the thing and I think the 480 DB is one of the best boats SR ever built... but I'm biased.

A friend of mine worked for Sea Ray for 25+ years. He agrees with you. He said the 480 and 560 DB's were the two best boats they ever made in his opinion. He also liked the 63 SS.

Amen! Put a new starter solenoid on the gen last week, have a depth finder to troubleshoot tomorrow, relining the gen sound shield cover, and I'm sure I'll find something else to mess with over the weekend. There is simply a buttload of systems to keep up with. It's all in the name of love though.

Gary I've sat back and have read everyone of your Threads on what you've done to your boat, Last night was the TV replacement in the master suite, Damn that looked a little intense, but they make for some very interesting reading....Systems, there are a lot of them on these boats and I'm still trying to find them all, this weekend I'm going to be looking at what can be done about the crappie sound in the bridge from the Clarion...UHG!!! Also, EZ2CY glass is great, but it actually rattles while underway, it makes sounds like sheets of steel Thundering..Uhmmm don't know how I'm going to remedy that one...??

Even a guy with a 26 year old 25 footer can agree. I was standing on my head painting my anchor locker last night. My wife thought I was nuts.

God I want a pic of that position, I could probably make million's with it on you tube....Got one a little better though...I was laying on my spare props last weekend fixing the water pumps from an air Lock, and thinking to myself, God this is really starting to hurt, I wonder if I'm bleeding just yet from the edges of the blades....ONly minor abrasions though.

Wow, this is a great and educational thread. I was hoping to read the resolve before the end as of this morning, but no such luck. I guess the "Sat" for parts delivery is tomorrow. I don't generally look at the dates. Good luck, Gary.

Interesting, mine does not rattle, in fact I think it is actually quieter on the bridge now compared with the strata or whatever I had before.

The new steering unit arrived yesterday... Off to the boat to install it this morning... along with a new 60A converter/charger.

Hope all goes well Gary. Gotta get you back on the list.

When you install your new charger.....are you gonna just plug it in to a receptacle in the bilge....:)

Kind of like plugging an inverter in the 12v adapter and connecting your A/C systems to it...

Well... in the camp of "nothing is ever easy"....

I pulled the new ram assembly out of the box and it looked identical... except for one piece. The end that bolts to the rudder cross bar. The new one is bigger/beefier with a larger bore and it included 316 stainless steel bolt that is 5/8". The old bolt is on the boat so I'm not sure what size it is but it is smaller. Here are the ends (old one is in background):

It looks like the original one on the boat may have had the same diameter bore but it almost looks like a bushing/bore reducer was pressed into it:
