48 DA Owners Club

Well didn’t like the first steering wheel I got and always liked the Schmit but did not know it was available in black burl wood until I saw it while looking for something else and had to have it.... Now I am beyond happy...Ordered the Sea Ray center camp today on eBay.

I felt like there was always too much bow rise, and even more so when our dinghy was on the platform. Now that I've seen what the drop fins can do, I wish I had done the same thing to my 410DA.

The 3 inches on the chord would have also helped as well as the drop fins. I did a similar mod to my 38 with drop fins, a little wider and 3 inches on the chord. Massive difference especially at slower speeds where I picked up around 3 knots (before tweeking my props) with the same throttle position at which speed the standard tabs were useless. At cruising speeds (22 to 23 knots) my modded tabs are now hardly deflected....due to the same efficiencies you pointed out. Coupled with tweeking my props, Ive picked up around 4 - 5 knots cruise speed at the same rpm.

I also note the ZF on the 48 runs a 14 degree down angle compared to the ZF in my boat with 12 degree down angle. I would imagine the greater down angle would also contribute to bow rise in the 48. That said, I've notice most Searay's run a high bow (generally confirmed by posts on this forum), thereby making them a good candidate from any tab mods.

Well I no longer have engine room and bilge envy. After two weekends of hard work I can say this is the best I have ever had. Spent all this weekend taping off and painting the engines. They look like new. I cleaned and can eat off the bilge floor. Now just have to keep it that way....For the next owner..LOL

Shaps .. post some more pics of your engine room and PODs layout. Interesting to see the difference as I have never seen one in person.

Did you rattle can them or something else?

Has anyone replaced their wiper blades? I have had a tough time trying to find the wipers with the screw type attachment. (see pics)

In order to change the wipers I have to purchase the 32" wiper blades with the J-hook and this will require me to purchase new arms as well.
