48 DA Owners Club

The 57 Predator is a 3 stateroom coupe style boat. There is a large sunroof and a full drop down glass cockpit door to transform the boat to an open lay out. It is definitely more of a sport boat with an aft sunpad and a garage for the dinghy. We looked for 2 years to find the next boat. I was very close to an azimut flybridge but after look at the sunseeker and Princess there was a big difference in build quality. I have the boat only 6 months and took it back from florida in march. Ive been in and out of every bilge and every through every mechanical system. The build quality is Very good. You hear stories about the euro boats and the electrical systems. The boat came with a full set of drawings and wiring diagrams and everything is as it is documented. The interior cabinetry, materials, and fit and finish is what attracted us to the brand. Also the master stateroom is full beam with walk around queen size bed and 6 foot 6 Inch headroom and flat floor. Any specific questions ask away. BTW nothing beats my 48 DA Gelcoat......
Interesting that you ended up with a Predator. I'll have to take a look. I'm a year or two from my next boat and have been really looking at the Princess V series and newer Searay's. I want to be in the mid 50 to 60ft range without pods. That's a great looking boat!

Ok so just scored a new Fusion RA770 for $150 off which means on to phase 4 of the stereo install which I was not planning to do for another month but couldn't pass up on this. I went to the boat and removed the Clarion unit so I could bring home and re-face the panel in the cabinet since I no longer need a CD changer. While removing the Clarion unit I figured I could catch a look at how to run cables to the help from there since I want to run a NEMA 2000 cable up to my MFD's so I can interface the Fusion with them. To my surprise I didn't see a straight forward path to get there. Can anyone chime in and tell me the easiest way to get cables from stereo cabinet to the helm before I go start pulling everything apart?

How did you get this panel out?

Jeffery,
Glad to see you are back. How did the upholstery come out? What toilet parts did you have to order to do the big project? Too hot now in south Florida to tackle this but I want to be ready and start ordering parts so when fall comes around I can tackle this. Sent my daughters boyfriend behind the motor on the port side this week to help me run wires for the ice maker, he fit no problem so I know he can help me dig out that bulkhead nightmare.

I did’t... I cheated and put a hole right through the bulkhead behind the TV and used a waterproof bulkhead fitting. Let me know if you figure it out because I pulled and pried but felt like it might break. I would love to see it apart as I heard it is just Christmas trees holding it. I just can’t seem to find the leverage points without damaging the wood.

Ok on with phase 3 stero upgrade today. Installed a switch in the master to switch between master bedroom speakers and/or anchor locker speakers. Then mounted the Kickers (8") in the locker and wired them up. I went the extra mile ($30) and installed the LED kit so at night I can enjoy the light show. Really happy with this as now sitting on the bow and I can enjoy some music, then when finished it all goes away....Love it.... On to the next project!!! Anybody heard form Jeffery, I need to pick his brain on my next project.View attachment 82183
I'm back....I've had a crazy past 2 months working everyday 14hours a day due to rolling our Cloud Solutions for the Pandemic. My company has been rolling out a number of applications including contact tracing for the State of Ca so I haven't had much downtime. Things are starting to slow so I can get back to working on my boat.

I ordered all the Vacuflush components from Marine Sanitation & Supply which was the bellows, 2" duck bills, and O-Ring kits. I ordered 100" of SHI-1011120 sanitation hose HD 50 Roll 1-1/2" from Jamestown Distributors. That's 2 - 50 foot rolls. For the toilet bowls I ordered the Dometic 385318162 Ball/Shaft/Cartridge kit and the Dometic SE341549 385310063 Floor Flange Kit's from Amazon. The upholstery came out amazing and I'm really happy with this boat. It's a great, somewhat easy boat to work on. I was really glad to get all this work done over the past winter.

I figured in your line of work you got caught up in all this crazy... I was the opposite, couldn’t travel and stuck working from home. Gave me lots of evenings to work on the boat as you can see lol...Now tomorrow I am actually taking my first trip and heading to Georgia. I am so looking forward to this crap to end soon and get back to some form of normal.

I've been working from home as well so I'm looking forward to getting out on the boat....Hell I can do zoom meetings from anywhere, lol. It's great to see all the work you've done on your boat.

Main difference with the sunseeker is galley down vs Searay and newer princess v series is galley up.

Yep, I really like the galley up. I'm pretty impressed with the newer Searay 510 Fly and the Prestige 550 with a few years on it, it's a lot of boat for less than $1M. I'd really like to stay with a shaft drive if possible.

I must have missed it....What upholstery work did you do/have done?

We where on a Sunseeker 2 years ago and while we didn't get in every nook and cranny the build felt like it was a step up from Sea Ray.

If I was upgrading in the next couple years it would be hard for me not to take a real hard look at the 2012/2013 58 sundancer. I am a sucker for the full open look of the sundancers

Grant I hear ya there. I had 30 flights in by mid march...I am ready to get back at it. I am lucky to be able to work from home but itching to get back to customer sites and get after it.

I'm a big fan of the 55/58 Sundancer as well but in my area, MAN mechanics are non-existent and it seems like all MAN maintenance is 2 to 3x that of Cummins or Volvo.

I had my entire aft redone and I had new carpet done with the Corinthian Marine teak look. Here's a shot of the carpet when I had the upholstery out.

Interesting to hear you guys thoughts on your next boat after the 48. Wind back the clock and just wondering whether you considered other boats when buying your 48's. Keen to hear your thoughts.

I'm looking at a 48DA ATM, but the engine room and access in it seems to be a nightmare on these boats and is really putting my off buying it as I like to do most of my work myself. Other boats I'm now considering are:

4400 Riviera Sports Yacht with Volvo IPS setup - slightly beamier and slightly shorter than the 48DA;
4700 Riviera Sports Yacht - shafts with 715hp C12 Cats or 705hp Cummins QSM11's; or
47 Riviera Flybridge - shafts with 660 hp Cummins QSM 11's or more rare with bigger Cats.

The last listed boat is very popular in my area and as a result a good 2005 - 2007 has increased in price over the last 4 or so years. I queried a couple of brokers for the reason why the price increase and its because later models are fitted with Volvo IPS setups which aren't as popular with people sticking to shafts and the reliable QSM11 motors which is driving up prices.

Thanks jeffrey vargas

I chickened out and had boatyard do the heads. Just leaves me the macerator/holding tank lines...
Can you tell me more about that "contraption" please?

Thanks Jeffrey

Would be really interested to see pics and your opinion on how well the aft section now matched the forward. We aren't due to have ours done yet but the J shaped seating will need to well before the forward sections. Every canvas guy I have asked insist it all has to be done at once. I get color matching can be difficult but curious how yours turned out and if you notice any difference from aft section to the forwards

We had parts of our cockpit upholstery re done and it matched perfectly.... The captains chair had the arm rest section redone and the rest is original. The passenger seat beside it is original and so is the vinyl on the arch....the U shaped cockpit seating is all new...you can not tell the difference at all... The guy that did it knew exactly where to get the vinyl and knew it would match.

I don't have a great pic but you get the idea with this one

I had the same concern on how good it would match. I just figured if it didn't match and I wasn't happy then I would do it all. I think it looks great and matches well and I'm pretty picky. If your potential canvas/upholstery guy is telling you to do it all it's probably because he wants a bigger job.
