I had a fabricator create replacements - it was outrageously expensive even in boat dollars at close to $6 each (I ordered 90 of the little buggers!). I like the tamboor doors and I figured if I rebuilt the cabinet, I'd be missing at least 2 fingers and even more boat dollars, so I sucked it up and paid the freight. My son - an engineer at Honda - created the CAD model and sent it out for pricing among his vendors. That cabinet is my liquor cabinet, so it gets it's share of use - I think the replacements are more durable than the originals!

If you are interested, Protolabs 3D printed them and I think they will have the pattern in their CAD database under "1999 Sea Ray 460 Cabinet Guide". If needed, PM me and I can send the invoice.
 
Engine question- 6CTA Cummins:

When I was going to change filters and I noticed the shut offs for my port engine coolant/water filter are different than STB. STB has the inline yellow tabs and the port has a twist shut off. Question: Is one of these shut offs better than the other? Would anyone happen to know the part number?

It's not so much the rain but wake spray that might come in. If there is a strong wind abeam and you are running at speed, you will get a bit of water in the bilge on that side. But that's seawater. The vents are a bit lower on the 460 than some other Sea Ray models.

If you are talking about rain only getting into the bilge, then you should examine and renew the caulking around the engine vents and the aft rub rail. It's hard to see but the 460 has an area directly behind the generator aft support that is prone to rainwater intrusion. The solution is to re-caulk the top of that rub rail. Occasionally you will have to remove the entire aft assembly, clean it up and re-bed it. That rub rail acts like a rain gutter all the way from the bow. Every 2 or 3 years I remove all the caulking and re-caulk. I try to have a completely dry bilge.
 
I have heard from a surveyor, broker and a knowledgeable Sea Ray owner that SOME of the 460 DA's left the factory with potentially exposed core in the air intake vent cutout area.

Mine is a 450 and likely not affected, however removal of those vents, inspection and rebedding is on my own future list of projects.

Just thought I should share this tidbit, if it hasn't been covered previously.

Has anyone upgraded their autopilot system? In the spring I am doing a complete Nav/Autopilot upgrade and will be changing the compass that is under the floor mid cabin. If anyone has done this any hints on how to get the new cables up to the helm would be very beneficial. Thanks in advance!

Yes, you are correct.
The earlier 460DA's (and certain other models) had balsa coring in the hull sides prior to mid 2001 production run. After that it was a synthetic material, so no balsa in the sides after that. But those intake vents and aft rub rail should be checked and re-bedded when necessary.

It's not too difficult, but it pays to have another person help. I replaced everything with a dual screen Axiom system and I'm pleased with it.
1) Start with placing the "compass" (mine was the Raymarine ACU200) in the salon floor compartment.
2) Remove the salon A/C unit cover and run that cable over to that point.
3) Next, remove the helm upper dash panel and locate the bunch of cables running into a conduit on the far right side.
4) Run a fish tape down it and have your helper put their arm up, inside the wall where you removed the A/C cabinet. They should be able to grab the fish tape.
5) Run the autopilot cable up to your dash.
Not sure what type of system you plan to install but there is lots of room inside that dash for components. I further installed a Raymarine AR200 on the hardtop for augmented reality.

Did you also get a camera so you could enable ClearCruise?

Thanks! Great information. In the spring I plan on a total upgrade. Axiom + 12 RV and an Axiom + 9 RV displays, Quantum 2 Radar, EV200 Autopilot and a Fusion connected stereo. Should put some new life into the old girl!

I've been really happy with the Raymarine architecture and the Lighthouse 4 operating system.
Maybe replace that old external GPS with the AR200, get a camera, add in AIS and a weather module?? The Seatalk ng systems is pretty straightforward. You might need a second HS5 network switch if you add cameras. Have fun.

I thought the new MFD's have internal GPS? The AR200 certainly looks sweet and would be a great add on with the camera and AIS in the future. One step at a time!

One requirement of AIS is that it needs its own GPS signal. That means external antenna. The AIS will then share the GPS data to others on the network, like the MFD. So if you want to install an AIS, keep that external GPS antenna mount.

I’d love to see some pics of this setup. I’ve been wanting to do a 2 screen upgrade for a while now. I have a 01. Been trying to figure out how to fit two in there.
And now you have me really wanting to do it with is AR features. Been googling about it and now I’ve gotta have it! Thanks a lot! Lol

As always, thank you for the quick reply. The rain water that I'm seeing is a very small amount right next to the port fuel tank. There is none on the starboard side. Additionally, we had horrible sideways rain the other day here in Maryland to the "couple of inches in one day" type scenario.. There is one spot where it's like a rod holder can go in, and I'm not sure where that drains to? Looks like that's a perfect place for water to get in and leak down?

I will post pictures once done in the spring. I am planning a 12" MFD where the original screen was and a 9" MFD centered in the eyebrow panel in front of me. To do this I need to order new panels from Flounder Pounder.
