Hi folks. I know this isn't a "technical" question but I think a good one.
How many of you have been caught in a storm on your 460? What were the conditions like 6-8 footers?
I'm asking because I haven't been caught in a storm with this boat yet. However, my previous boat (Formula 41 PC) I was out in 8-10 footers during a horrible storm and am curious as to how the searay handles very rough weather.
Thoughts?
I've run in the ocean several times with very large waves - ran down the coast of Delaware in a following sea of 10 footers, got caught on the way to the Dry Tortuga's in 8-10 footers on the beam and crossed the golf stream that built to at least 12 footers quartering on the bow. The boat handles nicely in big seas, just slow down so you don't pound.
I currently keep the boat in the great lakes on Lake Erie and can tell you that Erie can be far more uncomfortable than anything I've run into in the ocean. 6 footers on Lake Erie will pound the crap out of any boat due to the frequency of the waves - very close together. I'll take 10 footers in the ocean any day over 6 footers on the lake!
Use painters tape to mask off the area that you don't want to get caulk on and then remove while the caulk is still damp. It will leave a nice straight edge and look professional.Fellow 460 owners, it's time for me to re-caulk on the front dash. have any recommendations on the type of caulk and/or tools to make this job easier? I tend to make a mess every time I do caulk work LOL.
No way around the mess but yes prep is the key and a lot of paper towels & mineral spirits. Use a high grade exterior caulk for sure. I like to dig out all the old caulk, clean real good and then tape it all off. Pump in the new caulk and mist mineral spirits on it, use the caulk tool to run a smooth line and remove the exces with tons of paper towels. Keep using mineral spirits to keep the tool clean and smooth finish on your new caulk lines. I prefer the silicone one, that hard plastic and narrow shape just makes a mess when I tried one a friend had.

I haven't seen that one... But you are correct, the width and the silicone are the key to making that easy.You are correct. Looks like I posted the wrong one. They make one with a silicone tip that fits on the end of your finger also.

Sorry, but have to ask... Have you checked your main battery switches ?Helm switches on our 460 seem to not be working. Getting no power to manual bilge switches, horn, electronics, autopilot switches. None of the breakers are tripped. Is there a bus bar somewhere between the main breakers and the helm switches that we can test to see if power is coming to it. Having a hell of a time trying to find where these wires all go.
