460 DA Owners Thread

For what it's worth, I had a really cool chat about the Cummins block heaters from a surveyor I met in Stuart last week. Wait for it....

He said plug your block heaters in while the rig is in sunny south Florida. I respond.... "What in the actual ???"

He said the block heaters cook the humidity/moisture out of the air/oil in the blocks, and slows corrosion after the oil drains down out of everything into the pan. Block heaters save engines that sit for weeks at a time in humid climates.

So now I got that going for my electric bill down there...
I call BS on that... 1, block heaters don't get hot enought to evap water 2, where would it go 3, why is it there to begin with....

Crankcase vent to air-seps him says... whatever air comes into that block came from the atmosphere. It carries the same humidity that goes into combustion chamber or your nostrils.

Kinda made sense since we see moisture in oil on our construction equipment when it sits for months at a time. Water will indeed evaporate at a higher rate when the temp is raised.

Got it. Nice boat and thanks for sharing. Wifey and I can't wait to do this but want to do it slow..... run the ICW and take a few weeks vs rushing.

What was your range? What engines? I have the Cummins 8.3 CE's (480's).

We hold 400 gallons. Cummins 6CTA 450 Diamond.

Max range was +/- 200 nm, but the bigger water outside made us pucker a bit on fuel burn.

We ran from Hilton head to Ponce Inlet on day #5 and "skipped Georgia". My engineer and official cocktail waiter shut the genny down because he was nervous on D-juice half way through the day. We only had 36 gallons left when we fueled in Ponce so he was right. I was upset that we cut it that close but we learned from it.

We are under propped on a 23x26 with a mild cup. Black Dog did our wheels with feedback from our engine guys. You can hardly feel the thing go in gear and smooth as silk all the way to the big end. We started the trip really heavy with supplies (beer) and food (not sure who brought that stuff)

1- Chestertown to Portsmouth- 167 nm -took an ass whipping, 50 foot visibility, heavy rain and 25 kts on the stbd beam
2- Portsmouth to Oriental NC-118.9 nm (River Dunes... unbelievably gorgeous) Slight ass whipping on the Albemarle sound but manageable
3- Oriental to N. Myrtle Beach 165 nm (Grand Dunes- there is a Ruth's Chris @ marina)
4- N. Myrtle to Hilton Head 164 nm (took fuel at Georgetown Landing and then ran outside to HH)
5- Hilton Head to Ponce Inlet 200nm (Sea Love boat works, owners are ranchers from mid-west so steaks at restaurant are better than Ruth's Chris)
6- Ponce to Stuart ?? nm.. didn't record in my book. Came inside at Ft. Pierce, no swing or draw bridges all the way to Stuart. Put the fat girl up at 2400 rpm and made 24 kts all the way to Hutchinson Island Marina

Shore Power did a 1000 hour service mid summer and we had 50 hours of shakedown on the power before we went south. Our engines had 887 on Port and 1032 on Stbd when we left Chestertown. Burned a quart of oil on starboard mill, lost the little grommet that the transom door latches into, broke one of my wife's candles, and ran out of boat soap. Not bad for the first trip in over 20 years!

Hit me up with an email to cameron@tidemarkde.com and I'll be glad to share more.

wow thank you so much for all that detail. Very helpful. I dropped you an email as to try and not litter up the forum here.

Hi all, I'm interested in upgrading my swim platform on my 03 460DA to the hydraulic larger platform. Anyone have any experiences good or bad? Anyone know if there are used platforms and assemblies available?

Any thoughts are appreciated!

The people we bought our 460 from did TNT lift upgrade. I have been happy with it. I think they paid 30k to have it done ten years ago.

It was one of the selling points when we looked at the boat. We love having our own private beach so to speak for swimming and lounging in the water on a hot day. The only thing I dont like is when it is half way down or lower getting back into the cockpit is a climb. We usually move a cooler by the transom entry to use as a step.

Just make sure you put it all the way up at night. It is a long step down or fall when you forget it is down and step back there late at night.

As for having our waverunner on it. It works great and carries the load well.

Thanks so much for the info. The quotes ive been getting are in the price range. Definitely a struggle to make a decision to spend that much, but i do really want to carry my tender or a ski and lounge in the water. Was thinking about the Hurley H3O as an alternative, but still a bit expensive and would be a bit worried carrying a ski on the factory platform in anything other than calm water.

Greetings, folks. 400 DB owner here. I have a friend who is looking for a 2006-2008 Sundancer to buy. Hard top. 42' to 46'. Very clean. This off-season he sold his 400DA and is looking to upgrade.

This is where you normally say "asking for a friend", ha ha. But in this case, I truly am!

He's scoured the usual internet resources and listings and there's not a lot listed with these characteristics, so I'm posting here to reach fellow Sea Ray owners. Does anyone know of any boats like this that perhaps aren't listed yet, but would be interested in selling? If so, please let me know. Thank you!

Anyone here come up with a clever foot rest option vs. putting your feet up on the helm/dash? If so, what have you done? Thanks!

Question for you all-does anyone know what (if anything) is under the flat area in the pic below? I would like to drill a hole and put a cupholder in it but can't find any way to access the area to see what lies below (I'm front of my

There is an open area, plenty of room for some cup holders. You can access it by pulling out your stereo or MFD. I put some on my 460 without a problem.

Hey all, yesterday was a very mixed emotion day. We went back to see the boat and spent a few hours really exploring our new purchase. We can't wait to put our personal touches to it. The snow was gone and it was even pretty warm under the shrink wrap to take off our jackets. However, sadly I learned that there is still 2 feet of ice on the lake still, so what I thought was only 4/5 weeks until launch is actually closer to 6/7. We can't even take care of any projects in the meantime since the sale is conditional on a sea trial and other normal conditions that require it to be in the water. It was also one of the first boats out of the water last season which means there are several boats that have to go in before they can get to ours. If anyone has an in with Mother Nature some hurrying up of spring would be greatly appreciated.

I have one of my bathroom doors where the handle is getting loose. Does anyone know how to easily fix it and tighten it back up?
