460 DA Owners Thread

My 2002 460 was a European specification boat from new, when I bought it 3 1/2 years ago the television aerial did not work. It was a Glomex 14" diameter unit.

I replaced with the only option available at the time, a similar but smaller Glomex (10") diameter, and whilst it does work, reception is not brilliant.

I would like to know (before spending $200) whether the 14" version will improve reception, any help appreciated.

I cant imagine it would but I have no experience with it. Can you use sat in Spain?

Thanks Russ

I do use satellite in Spain, there are limited English channels available, I use a 13" dish mounted on the hardtop. it is not an automatic search system, we just use it in the marina. It only takes a minute to set up when we get to the boat.

It is one of these, so very cost effective, it mounts in the mount that we put the courtesy flag in when out of the marina, and we take it down when we leave the boat and come home.

Spanish terrestrial television has a lot of English movies showing, and that is why I would like a better signal.

Another plea for assistance from anybody who has successfully run cables from the Arch / Spoiler down to the dash area and through into the cabin.

I want to fit a Satellite system but I simply can not find a way through for the cables.

I've read that there is a small pass thru from the upper dash to the back of the ac/dc panel. If you can't find that, I've got another more indirect method. From the arch, it is simple to run a cable down the starboard side and into the engine room. From there you can run to the center of the boat under the batteries and drill out a pass thru to the Bilge area under the rear sofa. There is an access panel under the sofa allowing you to feed under the floor to point forward.

Hope this helps.

One more idea. If you are running low voltage wires and like most of us, you no longer use the cd changer, you could cut the ends off of the cable between the two stereos and use that cable. To get a wire from the arch to the stereo, run down the stbd side. Remove the side cushions and the seatback cushion below the arch. Run the wire down behind the seatback and forward to the lower stbd compartment beneath the switches to the right of the helm. There is another pass through to get the wire behind the dash and then with the stereo pulled, you can feed the wIre all the way from the helmsman's feet to the stereo.
Good luck and let me know if this helps. Of course, that cable only has about 6 small wires and doesn't include coax so I'm not sure if this will solve your problem.

Graham, its much easier than you think. Port side bolster, the white padded board with the large pocket and speaker in it that runs the length of the sink/wetbar, is fastened with automotive type plastic push fasteners, if it has never been removed you may have to break the silicon bead on the trailing edge and if you do not have a door panel or hose removal tool use a small screwdriver to pry easy then go to a larger one and separate - also remove the speaker first. just go slow and easy and you will see. Remove the arch access panel and you can use a snake to get any wires and cables down to the sink. Now in the salon remove the TV and shine a light, you will see a factory cable tube that you can access from the other end. This is where I ran my coax and tied into the existing factory connections to the salon TV and the other two TVs. Good luck.

Thanks for that Guys, much appreciated.

Doug, are you able to elaborate on this "I've read that there is a small pass thru from the upper dash to the back of the ac/dc panel."

I have no doubt there is a cable pass here, but I have spent hours looking and have got nowhere finding it at either end.

As I recall, you have to pull the guages portion of your dash and it is supposed to be behind there.

Russ:

I think you're right about a pass through there. I forgot about being able to pull the bolster out and I just did it last year when we had the upholstery redone! I know there is a pass through because I've seen it behind the refrigerator. That would be the preferred side anyway since the cable splitter for the antennae is also behind the refrigerator.

I wonder if the rear sofa controller is also behind the fridge??? I guess I'll have to empty out that cabinet again and take a look, unless anyone else has an idea.

I dont recall seeing it back there on mine.
Nor do I recall any cable pass on the starboard side and I have had all the panels off and done some mods behind there and spent some time.

Graham:

I was on my boat yesterday and found the stbd side pass-through that you've been looking for. Above the electrical panel cupboard is an L shaped trim piece that goes up to the ceiling. I was able to pull mine out with just my fingers, it wasn't glued or fastened in any way, just snug. From there, it appears to go all the way behind the dash.

Good luck! :smt038

Mine has wires going up there. Not sure where it comes out, but my guess is somewhere along the stbd side, probably under the switch panel or dash.

Yes I have pulled the cover off above the power cabinet in the saloon, I was able to get a Fishwire up the starboard side as far as the guest bedroom ceiling above the opening porthole.

In order to get further I will need to take the ceiling cover down to find what I hope is a hole through to the helm area.

I suspect this will all work, as soon as I am ready to run the cables (and a spare pull cord) I will take down the ceiling and get it done.

Until now my biggest concern has been getting a wire past the toilet and wardrobe in the guest bedroom, that is now not a problem.

If your past the guest head, you are past the helm area. The hole I have is behind the top dash panel and drops down over the electric panel. I have some wiring to do behind that panel this weekend I'll take pictures of both ends,

Ok guys I need your thoughts or experiences. I am tired of the carpet in the cockpit and I am seriously considering installing Nu-Teak in the cockpit and swim platform. Have any of you done the same or had any experience with it? Thanks so much!!
