460 DA Owners Thread

Hi Guys

I was always under the impression that any water in the Cockpit drains out through drains that are under the Transom locker door, the water makes its way to the outlets by going under the rear sun lounger.

Whenever I have washed down the teak cockpit floor, that is where the water escapes, not through the bilges, but please correct me if I am wrong!

Glad to now know where the washer pump is located, working at the moment, but bound to stop one day.

Graham

Graham-
The way I understand our cockpit drains is this:
1) The drain on the far starboard stern side drains the cockpit from the rounded portion of the stern seat (Sunpad seat)
2) Main drain located in the Engine Room Hatch lip which is a 1"-1 1/4" drain line direct to the Port main drain that Russ mentioned.
3) The drains under the transom hatch drains only the transom locker. (FYI-if the fresh water faucet ever gets "bumped" water will come out of these drains. Don't ask how I know. :)

I believe that is how it all drains out......

Hi Steve,

Looked at the photos I have, not very happy with them, but I am flying down to the boat tomorrow and will take some much better photos and email those.

As usual.when I do take photos there is never much thought goes into them, I will take the next lot specifically to show the detail of how I fitted the televisions.

Will email from Spain.

Drop them in photobucket or simply sponsor the site.

OK..... got photos uploaded so now will update the Television installation.

SDC12331.JPG

This is the 32" Samsung LED TV mounted on the Saloon wall between the bathroom door and Galley. It has the provision to set it so that it can be best viewed from about 20 degrees below the centerline of the screen. This gives a perfect picture when seated on the sofa or the armchair.

SDC12332.jpg

Same TV Set showing the only cable that is visible with a plastic dome shaped cover covering the three cables (HDMI, Power and Conventional aerial cable) that run from the TV to the coving above.

SDC12333.jpg

I carefully removed the Ruffle covered trim that runs around the ceiling, when that is removed, it is held on with small pins, there are screws holding the main 2" fabric covered Pelmet in place. Undo these screws, remove the Pelmet and cut half an inch from the multiply backing on the edge that is covered by the Ruffle. This gives a perfect channel for the three cables to lie in. I put a small amount of clear silicone over the cables every 12" or so to hold them down before I refitted the Ruffle.

The cables run from above the TV, around the ceiling and along the top of the cupboards on the Starboard side of the Saloon. I drilled a hold in the top of the cupboard unit and fed the cables down into the cupboard and through into the back space where the VHS was located.

SDC12335.jpg

I mounted the Blueray player and the Satellite control box where the old VHS player was fitted. Because of the extra cabling, I have a splitter and a threeway switch mounted in the top left of this cabinet. As the cables are quite heavy, I have yet to figure how to fit this neatly away, yet still accessible.

The three into one HDMI Feeder switch takes the two feeds from Satellite and Blueray into another three way powered splitter that splits out to two televisions. To change from Satellite to Blueray is simply a switch on the first splitter.

SDC12336.jpg

This photo shows how flat the LED Television can be mounted to the wall. I used a very flat mount with 4 large screws that were only 3/4 inch long, these secured the mount to the wall but did not protrude into the shower. Numerous mearsurements taken but still nervous moments drilling into the wall. There is in fact quite an airgap between the back of the multi ply wall and the shower fibreglass unit.

SDC12337.jpg

This shows the 27" Samsung LED that I mounted on the Starboard wall in the Master bedroom, it backs onto the wardrobe and all cables run directly from there to the back of the Television. Again, I used a very flat mount that the Television slid down onto. Make sure when screwing the mount to the wall there is enough room to lift the Television above the mount in order to be able to slide it down onto the final position. There are two screws to hold the Television part of the mount onto the one that is screwed to the wall.

SDC12338.jpg

This shows how close to the wall this set is mounted, not possible with an LCD set, plus they are a lot heavier and that always concerns me when running in heavy seas.

SDC12342.jpg

This set is mounted slightly downward facing to give the best picture when lying on the bed.

Hope this all gives someone else some inspiration.

Hello All!

I've been lurking while looking for a new to me boat. Closed on a 2005 460 DA a couple of weeks ago and have been working on the boat since. One of those that had been sitting for awhile. I have found the posts on this site very helpful already. Just wanted to thank those who contribute and say hello!

Welcome!! Congrats on your new boat!! I'm glad you joined us, feel free to ask any questions- there are a lot of knowledgeable and helpful folks here. Also share your experiences, they may help others. Please post some pics of that new boat- we would love to see it. Good luck with her- what's the story with the lay up?

Thanks! I'll post some pics soon. The boat is being detailed as I write. The lay up story is a sad one. The boat was in New York until the fall of last year. Very little use since 2009. Last fall a chap bought the boat and had it shipped to Florida. After a Marine Max service and bottom job the boat was delivered to his dock. Before he had a chance to use the boat he had a heart attack and passed. The boat then set for another year till my purchase. Surprisingly little on the survey, zincs, filters etc. Going to go for new canvas and cockpit carpets, then put some hours on her!!

CONGRATS on the purchase! One heck of a story, too. Let's hope you get many more hours than the previous owner!! These are great boats and there are some on this thread that have had theirs for months and some for years. As Russ mentioned, a great source for answers to many of the newbie questions. Look forward to seeing photos and hearing about your experiences.

I'm glad to hear that the wife was able to part with the boat. I talked with Marine Max about the boat before buying mine last year. At that time she had some "knowledgeable" friends helping her set the price.

So you're going to change out the white canvas on her huh?

Good luck with the boat, it was supposedly a great boat.

Yes, that is the boat. Small 460 world I think. Her "knowledgable" friends certainly did not help her sell. I assume that after a year on the market, she was ready to be convinced of the real market. Must have been tough for her though. The white canvas was a vinyl material that did not like the Florida humidity. I thought it looked good though. The boat needed a good detailing which we finished yesterday. The engines and genny got a full service with new hoses and clamps. Changed two crossover pipes as well. The genny, with 300 hours, looked to have the original oil filter. The Admiral is now decorating, so by this weekend we will start burning some diesel!

That's great, enjoy the initial cruise

No new news from anyone? What is everyone up to?

It has been a busy Fall Russ. I have had Yacht Club Drama which has kept me away from the boat for the past few months. We are in the process of moving her to a boathouse and joining a new club. Who needs the BS?

The engine room fun begins soon after the move. Change all the fluids and clean the engine room. No major repairs needed or upgrades occurring. I do have the intention of adding a small 6-9 bottle wine refrigerator where the salon TV used to be located. Then a glass holder in the far forward starboard cabinet for our Reidel glassware. (Can't drink nice wine form plastic!)
I'll post some photos after the project is completed. Merry Christmas to all!
