460 DA Owners Thread

Russ,
I can only guess that the reason for the shut off for both supply and return is for pure safety. They are in essence two lines from the fuel tank and if you needed to do any major work on the fuel system or removal of the generator, you would want to shut off all fuel lines.
Although mine allows to draw from either tank, and return to either tank( you can return to tank that is not supplying) bothe switches also have an off position but would never set it to "off" during normal operation

New question - Does the water pressure "gage" work on your Smartcraft display?
I never noticed before my latest impellor incident but I show 0 psi for water pressure on my Smartcraft display. Impellors are in and working fine, temps show well within range and all is well except for not knowing what the pressures are.
Thanks

Makes sense but I am curious what the logic is behind my system, in particular the generator and it's inability to feed off the opposite tank.

Sorry, don't have Smartcraft- anyone else?

Can anybody with hands on experience advise the best route to follow when running cables from the domestic batteries into the saloon.

I am really struggling to find a practical way to get through, there must be someone out there who has done this on a 460.

Yes! Pop out the port side panel in the cockpit, I used an auto door panel removal tool, there is a conduit back there that runs in behind the TV over fridge. You should be able to go straight down from the arch, I think there is conduit going into the motor room.

I was on the boat yesterday and checked what you are asking about and my gauge doesn't read anything either on the smartcraft panel. I don't think there is a problem.

Thanks Russ, any advice of how to get from the engine room to the power distribution board in the Saloon?

That is where I need to get cables to.

Graham, I think your going to have to go the long way. The only acess I have found is to go on starboard side, remove seat cushions in cockpit where the fuel selector switches are and you can gain access to the engine room, straight down from the arch. From there up and over the arch to port side, along the inside of that panel to behind the TV in the salon. Then I would run through the headliner over to the panel, try removing lights to gain access and run a snake.
I didn't spend too much time on the port side in the cockpit looking down, I didn't need to run from the engine room but I would think you could find access there. Time, patience and don't give up, good luck.

Thanks Russ

It is the "running a snake under the ceiling lining" that I am having trouble with, I have not been able to get anything through there at all. Had hoped to go from the fuel shut off valve area along the starboard side and through to the guest bedroom, but not been able to get through there at all.

May have to rethink where the invertor is going to be located.

Yeah Graham, I couldn't get through there either on the starboard side. Did you pull out the power panels and see if there are any clues? There has to be wires coming from everywhere into that space. What exactly are you installing and why?

Trust me Russ...... there is not a panel on the Starboard side that I have not pulled out in order to find a way through, all have ended in failure.

I want to fit an invertor to power primarily the Coffee Machine, when I wake early in the morning at anchor and need my first hit of the day, it is very anti social to fire up the Genset to make a brew, second task is for it to power the DVD Player and televisions.

Still looking for the answer, any advice gratefully received.

I did not install this, but a previous owner ran an air line from the storage area under the salon floor into the engine room. it looks like he pulled both soffa's out and fished from under the front soffa to the bilge area under the rear sofa, then went into the engine room and sealed the hole. Short of going across the engine room, coming in behind the fridge then under the floor, I don't see an easier way. Bob

Just curious Doozie, what was/is the air line for?

Graham, both the coffee maker and TV are on the port side and close to one another. The TV draws little amperage, maybe run 12 v behind the TV and mount the inverter there. Run an extention cord from the pot to the inverter? Just thoughts

I was told by Sea Ray, that the original owner was a Cat Dealer, they ordered the boat minus engines and install several engine's in the boat to see how it would perform, I think they were trying to get back into Sea Rays good graces. When I bought the boat it had 2003 3126B Cat's. They used the air line and had a air compressor under the floor for tools.

Russ

The recently installed 27 inch LED Television in the Saloon is mounted on the wall between the galley and the bathroom door, and all of its cabling comes from the area where the CD Players and Stereo systems are mounted, the DVD Player is also there where the VHS used to be. Getting the cabling around from there to the television was a mission all on its own, but ultimately achieved without it showing at all. So the Inverter power to the televison must come from the Starboard side.

The coffee maker is a Nespresso machine on the Galley work top, most European spec boats where not supplied with the more common system coffee maker as per the USA spec boats. Its power currently comes from the wall mounted plug point above the galley work top. If I mount the inverter where the old television used to be in the cupboard above the fridge, no problem getting power to the coffee machine I would think, but getting across to the Televisions is still an issue. Fortunately the main bedroom television also gets its power from the same place as the saloon set, so getting inverter power to the starboard side would accomplish two jobs at the same time.

Russ, It was from Florida. The engines are all electronic, that works pretty good, 700 hours no problems. Graham, do you have pict of the TV mount, I've been thinking of doing that. No problem with the wall supporting it? Bob

Hi Bob

Will try and post a photo, PM me your email address and no problem to saend a set of Pics, I struggle to upload on this site.

The Samsung 27inch only weighs about 7 pounds, so mounting on the wall is no issue, and when you drill into the wall you will understand why, it is tough!
