420 DA Thread

What about the fuel filter FF5488? Shouldn't that also get changed on each engine? Also, why only 1 LF3536 on your list instead of 2?

I do my spin on fuel filters every other year (and maybe even less if primary Racor filters were reaaly clean). The one oil filter is likely the genny.

I personally don't see the value of doing fuel side maintenance during winterizing process. I don't like having my new fuel filters just sit all winter long and get older. So, I do them in spring, right before we start cruising.

The 1 for LF3536 is the fleetguard part # for Onan genny.

The (1) LF3536 is for the genset.

I agree with Alex that the fuel filters are best changed in the springtime during the commissioning. The oil should be changed when we winterize so that we remove the used oil with the acids from combustion.

The 13 gallons of oil is correct for my engines and generator. Don't forget you will need about half a gallon to fill the two large oil filters and one small one when installing them.

I thank you all for your help. Tomorrow I'm finally heading to my 44 Dancer (Kent Island, MD) to winterize it for the first time. (My first diesel boat too). I've assembled all the stuff I need, including 13 gallons of Valvoline 15W-40, filters, antifreeze etc, etc, etc. I'll also be installing a Raymarine Cam-100 aft facing camera to integrate with the E-120. Thanks again to all of you....

I have a Cam-100 camera on my boat, it came with it. When do you plan on using it? I never use mine so I am curious on what your expectations are?

I ordered custom Seadek for my 3 heads on my 420 and they sent me the storm gray which was the wrong color. If anyone is interested in them let me know and ill send pics. They are all ready to be put down and I would have kept them but they dont match my carpet.

Anyone have any good ideas for and easy to put up and down sunshade for our 42? Our old umbrella is to big and hits hard top.

We are in the off season in Michigan and I have purchased some spare props for the 420. Where is the best place to mount/store them on the boat? What's the best method to secure them?

We are off season in Cleveland and I wouldn't mind an extra set of props as well. I have the same boat and engines as your 2004 420. Any recommendations where you got the props?
My marina offered to mount them in the engine compartment - I'm just not sure where. Did you also get spare shafts?

I was able to buy them from a private seller who used to own a 420. I took them to a local prop shop to have them checked out and scanned. I do not have spare shafts. I have seen a picture of a 420 with them mounted aft of the starboard engine stacked one on top the other. I don't know if a mount is available or if it has to be custom fabricated.

I bought a new set this winter that I found online. Ill be fabricating a mount and post what I come up with. Anyone come up with a good hardtop extension to act as a sunshade. I'm thinking of trying to work with my canvas guy to build something with the flexible fiberglass poles like the tent poles but stronger and have it zipper onto my hardtop.

New to Thread as Relatively New 44DA Owner

All--
Bought a '08 44DA last year and I'm new to this forum/thread. Have enjoyed the 44 this past year, to include an 8-day trip of the Chesapeake where the boat worked flawlessly. This is my first Diesel boat and I had a 340DA previously.

This particular boat has Zeus drives and I was wondering if any other 44 DA owners had any Zeus-specific advice? I've already learned alot this past year, and helped Winterize the boat in Nov 2013. I totally de-Winterized the boat on 28 Feb and learned some Zeus-specific items along the way.

Biggest disadvantage is you have to pull the boat to Winterize as you need to let the fluid drain from the drives. As I normally do all the work myself, this is an added cost as the marina must perform this task. Having said that, I believe (with a "Power and MotorYacht" article confirming) the added efficiency of Zeus drives essentially makes the added cost a wash for Winterization.

Looking forward to participating in this forum/thread, to any advice y'all might have, and to "44 Dancing"!

timemachine, so have you come up with anything for the sun shade? We have been trying to get something fabricated for years but no joy yet. If you have can you share?

Finally! It's time for Spring commissioning. I'm changing Racor fuel filters shortly. Does anyone have a procedure list handy? Any other tips for the 44DA?
