420 DA Thread

Skip,
Funny u mention hose replacement. At the begining of the season I had my stb motors raw water hose replaced becuse it was cracked. I inspected all the other hoses . All were ok .. This past weekend I found my waste hose from the midcabin head has all spider cracks and now the port raw water is all cracked . WTf boats 1.5 years old ...

Not to thrilled with replacing the waste hose..... looks like it goes all the way to the head itself... Im going to email searay see if they will share the cost .. No way hose should be cracking this bad after a year and half...

Rob

OK here is a new one for all you 420 owners. Anyone remove their coffee maker. I have not looked too close yet hopefully someone can save me some time - There are some hidden screws. Anyone know where they are?

Just finished 9 days in the Abacos. The only failure was the stupid coffee maker. Not too bad.

Did you have antifreeze in there?? I had the same experience with antifreeze in a clear plastic strainer bucket ... some reaction of the antifreeze with the plastic would produce cracks over winter . go figure

I have never tried to get to the coffee maker. I am going to spend Friday aboard trying out my new Makita polisher and I will try to remember to poke around under the coffee maker. My best guess is that there is an access panel underneath the coffe maker cabinet; hard to get to, no doubt.

Don't have a 42 but do have a 2004 boat with a built in coffee maker. We broke the glass part of the coffee maker in a big sea in the first six months of ownership. I figured, "no problem, I'll just order a new one from the manufacturer." Well guess what. The company said, "we sell our entire production to the boat companies and RV companies." So, I call my boat companly and they say we don't do coffee makers any more because the coffee people keep changing the design and this raises hob with production. We now provide a locker for you to put a nice french press in. So, I went on ebay and bought 3 of the suckers that I broke. There were only 3 for sale. We now store the glass thingie under the bed wrapped in pillows wihen we travel. If I can keep the other three in reserve for 10 years, they will be worth BIG money on ebay when I sell the boat in 7 years. Good luck with your coffee maker project.

Im still waiting for a reply from searay on my hoses. My sink also developed a stress crack.. They ( customer service ) said it SHOULD sand out.... Then i suppose it will crack twice as bad???

So we shall see...

Shower window latch broke this weekend and I found a half dollar size void on the outside of the arch stb side. Any one else with the hose issue???

Guys ,
I noticed my ER ladder was laying on a motor fitting. the washers used to mount the ladder failed and let the ladder drop. Check it .. Ull see play in the ladder where it mounts to the boat. I have to shift my ladder over 4 inches to get it away from this fitting... Once again POOR DESIGN.

Any thoughts on the hose issue ?

same sink issue

Rob, I haven't heard of any hose issues either, but I'm there with you on the poor designs and lack of Good quality workmanship. We have a 2006 320 and I couldn't figure out why everything under the bathroom sink was getting wet....Well the hose attached the drain was split and hagin there, then it dropped off completely, dealer fixed it though and now the Head sink has a stress crack too I told them they are going to replace that too and I have several stress cracks on the boat, which they told me I was out of warranty on, I told them then I guess I'll buy another brand next year too, now they want to Fix all the stress cracks....I'm having rreal trouble witht eh responses I've been getting on service issues that have to deal with POOR quality workmanship...As for your hose issues, being from an Automotive industry I know hoses go no matter how old they are, from dryrot, to sub quality parts...

Anyone having fiberglass yellowing issues ? My topside glass is starting to yellow where the non skid starts. The boat is washed weekly and waxed monthly. Yes monthly

Rob

The yellowing is uv damage. Toilet bowl cleaner makes it white again and does not damage gel coat. You will need to rewax the surrounding area but you are doing that already.

Rob,
No yellowing on my '03. What sort of wax is being used? My regimen is to wash the boat weekly, and monthly reapply Meguiar's Flagship Wax. About every 3-4 months during the season I need to get out Mr. Makita and some Meguiars cleaner and get a little oxidation off, then I apply Meguiars polish and flagship wax. My marina is 1 mile downriver from a power plant, so I have all sorts of industrial pollution to deal with as well.

Rob-

I also have a couple of topside areas that yellowed. Most of it compounded out but there is one area that continues to be a pain in the butt.

Greetings 420 dudes!
I just received permission from the admiral to begin the search for a Sundancer in the 40’ to 44’ size, with the 420 being a prime candidate. Astonishingly, this was actually her idea. As it turns out, all that was necessary to “plant the seed” was a few long cruises in less than perfect conditions on our 300. Who knew it would be that easy?

My question here is, knowing what you all know as owners, if you were looking for a 420 in the 2003 to 2004 year range, how would you like the vessel to be equipped? The boat will be used on the Chesapeake – both above and below the bridge.

Don't let the diesel bigots talk you into diesel... Gas... all you need is GAS for the bay.

He's trying to figure out how to get to the forums and track these screwed up time stamps... I posted this yesterday....
