420/44 DB Owners Club

Finding pics of the engine room on these boats is difficult. Well, more so, finding pics that offer perspective of the size. I'm a 5'11" 210 guy, I like to do my own maintenance. I don't want to lay across the engines, squeeze between the engines, crouch like a monkey between the hull and the engines.... can you tell I own a 340....

So tell me, please...where is the engine access? How much room is there for a normal sized guy to work? Are all the basics easily accessible?

Thank you!
Here you go... not the best but it's all I've got.

Re: 420 DB Owners Club

I believe I now own this boat. Bought it in VA Beach

Congrats and welcome to CSR!

We need details and pics.

Anyone have any guidance on removing the microwave / convection oven on a 44DB 2007?
I believe the power cord on mine has become loose and I can't seem to find a way to access the area where the outlet is shown in the manual.

I own this 44DB
Completely agree on changing the name of this thread to 420/44DB... they are the same boat!

Along that line, here is my list of "cool mods" (can we still say that?):

- swap b.s. three strand anchor rode for 8 plait
- 316SS anchor
- 24v "auto switching" inverter, running off thruster battery bank, that powers the "Starboard Systems" breaker which gives me the TV, an outlet in the salon and master stateroom as well as the cockpit locker and flying bridge.
- modified salon A/C (I have a whole long post on that somewhere on this site)
- upgraded HVAC registers in staterooms to divert more flow to salon
- swapped cockpit speakers for component speakers with rear-aiming tweeters
- bridge a/c (this was a huge undertaking since I have three helm seats; low profile unit is mounted under the U-shaped seating)
- bridge upgraded to EZ2CY on all panels
- zip-in sun-shades for all panels on the bridge
- roll-up "pouches" for cockpit canvas (allows for simple, attractive handling of cockpit canvas when rolled up)
- Centek Gen Sep to virtually eliminate generator exhaust noise (the installation of which is another whole story). Gas comes out the factory, above-water line outet. Water comes out below water line at the transom.
- replaced all six batteries with Optima Blue Top AGMs
- Hurley dinghy davit, plus "Miss Michigan" 4:1 block and tackle retrieval system
- 12v fans in staterooms

I'm sure there are more... but this is all I can think of now.

The microwave oven outlet is behind the fridge. Be careful to protect the floor when you pull the fridge out.

The master TV mount can be accessed by removing inspection panel in the port side closet.

Take care if replacing the TV, be sure not to block the port wall storage door next to the TV frame.

The c120 is old and somewhat slow. I like the Garmin interface better. Anyone switched to a Garmin MFD or chartplotter? What fits between gauges? 7612 seems closest fit. Any cons to the switch from Raymarine?

I did search. Great thread this one. Found some helpful year old info here. Wishing for even more info posted this.

Make sure you look in the Marine Electronics forum on this site. And also the "upgrades and ideas" (or whatever it's called - it shows lots of ideas for projects. The Electronics forum is loaded with answers to "which is best?" questions. As for what fits, well, your tape measure will answer that for you! :)

Does anyone know lowest air draft that can be obtained with a 420 DB? I've looked everywhere, and even Sea Ray's specs don't show it. I'm trying to determine if it will fit under the 19' fixed bridge on the Great Loop at Chicago. I'm assuming things like the radar array and sat antenna may have to be removed, but I'm assuming the radar arch cannot be removed without major expense and headache? Thanks in advance!

According to this diagram from the manual, you have a little over 17Ft. to the light mast.

I own a 2005 420 Sedan Bridge. We bought it last August. Today I just noticed that the port and starboard exhaust tubes are different sizes. The port is 8 inch diameter and the starboard is 6 inch diameter. They are slightly different in length 76" vs 64". Anyone know why this is?Island Time.jpg

Genset has a separate exhaust thru hull on the starboard side.

I think they made the port main exhaust 8" to make it more difficult to change the holding tank filter. :smt001
