420/44 DB Owners Club

I'm looking to improve sound quality in the cockpit. I have two MX650 JL speakers which have replaced the original ones on each side of the salon door and 10" JL sub by the stairs. I'm thinking to add another pair which could improve the sound in the cockpit and out beyond the platform, so I don't have to crank up volume to the max to hear the music while swimming near the boat.

I'm trying to stay away from the tower speakers. So far the best option I can think of is adding another MX650s where the two cockpit lights are (still have to measure if the depth will allow) and reposition the lights, maybe even replace them with smaller 3-4 lights instead of having 2 large ones.

Did anyone do similar upgrade? Any ideas other than what I'm thinking?

Do you have room for something like this?

This would probably be ideal solution. Unfortunately, our model doesn't have room there. Also, for some reason two sides of the ceiling are configured differently, so even if a smaller speaker could fit on the STBD side, the PORT side doesn't have that option at all.

I'm attaching a pic of a random 420DB just to make it easier for having the visual of what I'm describing.

That outa do it … Watching this subject very closely btw.

Biggest challenge for me is which speakers give the maximum bang

I’m looking to replace the bulbs in the cockpit ceiling. I currently have led that does red, white and blue but the white is two warm. Looking for similar bulb that does this but with a daylight white rather than a warm white. Anyone know where to find such a bulb. I’ve searched marinebeam with no luck.

1000bulbs

Marinebeam

Amazon

Superbright Leds

West Marine ahhh, no. Way too expensive!

I have been able to find the base type and then the equivalent wattage in LED and then the warmth in Kelvin. 4500 and up is more towards daylight and 2500 to 3000 is indoor warm white.

Let us know if that is what you are after!!

Thanks the kelvin rating helps narrow it down. Not too many bulbs seem to do the RWB color. I may replace the fixture for the lumitec mirage line. I like the dimmable white and the R,W,B TTL feature.

If you replace the fixture please post a link to what you get.

Has anyone replaced their Nav lights (red/green) fixtures? Mine are giving me hard time getting them cleaned up. If I can't find a trick I'd like to replace them.

Thanks Dean!

I like the SS look. They appear to be much smaller than the original ones. But since you're happy with them, I guess they fit fine and look proportional. I think Joe upgraded to something similar, not sure if exactly the same, on his 500DB.
Yes, i think i got them off of Joe's recommendation. I have a pic somewhere I have to dig them up.

Getting ready for spring and wondering if anyone has installed any flooring in the heads ? I have seen other boats with something that looks like tile.

Hello All,

Attempted to template for Corinthian Aquamat on bridge of our 2007 44 Sedan Bridge. Could not remove seats so had to work around with my template. Now I am not comfortable that template is any good because all the messing around I had to do.

I think I want to remove helm seats to makes easier. However, worried about nuts falling on top of headliner. It looks like mine have a mounting plate that the actual pedestals are bolted to with allen hex socket bolts attaching to the mounting plate. I am thinking if I remove those allen bolts the mounting plate is what these are screwed into and no risk losing nuts or anything below. Thoughts appreciated.

Correct, you don't have to worry about it. If you are removing the pedestal the mounting plate stays in place.

We ordered the material as a remnant from Corinthian so we had a nice roll to work with. Our local upholstery person templated and sewed the binding on and attached the snaps. If there were any issues, they could take it back to the shop and fix. This was the felt backed carpet. The Aquabak is only available finished...to you template or simply bound on 4 sides as a "raw" piece for you to work with. The cost to a upholstery shop is half of what we would pay to Corinthian. Our cost is about 12 bucks a ft sq. The felt back from Corinthian is about $1.5 a foot.

On our flybridge, we had the carpet go around the pedestals for the helm chairs. The snaps were there indicating that what ever was there initially was around the helm chair as well.

Having the carpet sandwiched between the aluminum foot of the pedestal and the floor might cause the chair to not be firm. Also, kinda hard to remove the carpet.
