410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

The table stays where you put it and I've never had it move or tip over and we are in 8-10 ft seas several times a year. I don't really know how much the base weighs. I bought 30 lbs of lead and melted it all, but the routed area wouldn't hold all of it so the remainder is in a can in my shop.....i'd guess the remainder is about 10-12 lbs.

I really like that idea, and have a friend who melts lead for re-loads so that part probably wouldn't be a problem. My weak spot is wood working though. I'd have to find a suitable piece of wood for the base, and figure out how to route it out properly then seal the lead inside. What type wood did you use and what part of it did you route out? How did you seal the lead in?
The more I think about it the more i am leaning towards something like what you have but using the Garelick (like Sea Ray did) brackets on the bottom of the table and on the base so it can be quickly broken down and then set up inside the salon for inside meals. My wife really likes the teak tables with the compass rose in them from the vendor in the UK.

I made this table and we get 10 people seated comfortably. We use an ice chest with cushion on the side with no seating. Sorry for the sideway pictures. These were also taken before the vinyl was all replaced.

That's a nice looking idea too. The folding option makes storage a bit easier. What are the closed dimensions? How do you support the other side of the table when you open it up?

I like the table Pics. I purchased a 1996 400 sundance in Nov. and I'm in the process of getting to know / performing deferred maintenance on the boat. I'm missing all tables and the aft bench seat. Any ideas on where to get parts?

Welcome to CSR Fred, and congrats on your purchase. The aft bench could be a tough one. Flounder Pounder is a regular go-to for odd parts, but if I were in need, I'd start looking to have a bench fabricated.

Are you sure your boat is a '96 DA? I've never heard of that. Would you mind posting the last 4 digits of your HIN?

John,

The wood work on the table is not at all complicated. Both the top and the base are based on 13 ply cabinet grade exterior glue plywood. The top is plywood with teak parquet flooring laminated to it with West Systems Epoxy then bound with 2 X 2 teak and a hand formed radius on the edge. You only asked about the base, but if you want instructions on building the top and edge trim, I'll help you.

The base started with 3/4" plywood that I laminated some 1" thick teak boards to. When the base was about 1" larger in length and width than I needed, I cut a rectangle the approx. size I wanted for the base then laminated a 1" X 2" teak board to the outside bottom edge of the top to give the appearance of a solid teak base. The table base was then cut to its final shape. There is really no magic to routing the base for the lead. I used a 3/4" router bit and just routed the base about 1/2" deep ending up with about a 1" wide groove for lead all around the base then added a wider grove on the ends to prevent the table from tipping over. The groove was sanded reasonably smooth then coated with West Systems epoxy. The lead was heater to just melting then poured in small pours into the routed groove. If you get the lead too hit or pour it too fast, the plywood will catch fire. After the lead cools, I mixed up more West Systems and poured a layer of epoxy over the lead filling up the lead groove with epoxy. Finally the base was sanded flat. The top of the base was then sanded and finished and the chair base mounted.

Hope that helps.........

Thanks Frank. I can picture the process now. If I go that way I'll probably get the table top from the forum vendor because my wife really likes the nautical look of the inlaid compass rose.
I'm not good with wood work in general but the base sounds like something that may be doable with some time and patience.

"Request Permission to Go Ashore Sir" or as a pilot would say: "Departing the Pattern"

I'm sorry to report, but we are departing from the 410 Sundancer Official Thread. We've traded One Sweet Day for our "new" (to us) 2006 58 Sedan Bridge.

Carter is departing the Pattern! You can still provide some great information in this thread!

Does any one know what year Sea Ray stopped incorporating the ECM with the ignition switch/key regarding logging hours? Keys on and the engines off.

Got my carpet and new top on. Pretty happy with the results. It has really updated the cockpit.
Update: for those asking the carpet is called Compass HB Marine

I had it done by a local upholstery guy that does boat tops etc.

Looks awesome.... We were at the boat today and picked from our samples of carpet and counted all the lights for the led conversion that I want to do. Waiting for the underwater lights to be delivered and the weather to warm up. I'm getting antsy.

It looks amazing! Hope ours turns out that nice, using Corinthian Marine carpets. Just finishing the template tonight.

The carpet looks fantastic.

That looks fantastic. Just did similar through Corinthian and couldn't be happier, but went with black stripes as opposed to white. I love the look and like how they did your complete cockpit.

Let's see some pics with the black stripe.....

I will post tomorrow as I will need to adjust the size of the pics and have never done from my IPAD....also haven't had much luck loading pics on here.

When you upload a photo it will ask you what size you'd like it. You don't need to resize in advance.
