410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

Here's our twist on the use of the icemaker.... Always used it on the 410 and now on the DB.... But we prefer buying bags of clear ice and the cubes are smaller. So I have always used the icemaker as a freezer to keep store bought ice in - and make ice in it from time to time if we have a cooler on board. We have a fridge up on the bridge and I'd prefer the icemaker up there, I make lots of trips down to the cockpit for ice.

At "The Spa" we replaced the original with a SEA FREEZE ice maker. Its the only marine ice maker available in AC/DC automatic switching. It means it makes ice NON-STOP, holding up to 15 lbs. of ice. When we are at the beach or just anchored out with no generator running, its making ice. We always carry an on board cooler for extra ice in drinks for the kids and adults, and we are always adding ice to the cooler. I have yet to buy a bag of ice and carried it to the boat. I even bag the extra when relaxing an throw it in the galley freezer. Check them out at http://www.seafreezeinc.com/marine_ice

Hi I have a 95 40 express with St. Croix davits that are mounted on the back of the boat right before where you step on to the platform they are mounted on 6 inch high platforms. I just bought the boat last year and haven't used them yet does anybody know how much weight they will carry? I have a old 10 foot west marine hard bottom with a 15 Johnston 2 stroke.
Thanks Tommy

Tommy,
Good luck with your boat. I just bought mine last March as well.
if you look back in this thread to post #359, Mark has the same set up as you do on his boat. He should be able to tell you what he has done to give you some guidance. His name on CSR is "Air O'Nautical".

At "The Spa" we replaced the original with a SEA FREEZE ice maker. Its the only marine ice maker available in AC/DC automatic switching.

I rely on the ice-maker a LOT, and I'm intrigued by a dual-voltage option. I don't want or need it to make ice underway though - I just want the compressor to keep the existing ice cold. As it is, I make a habit of lifting the arm before getting underway with the genny running so water doesn't spill onto the cubes when I hit a wave.

Well, first, I have had the boat three years now and I think it was last summer or late the summer before that I found out why my ice maker wasn't working. It wasn't plugged in. I haven't tried to make ice cubes with it but I do store ice in there as that baby gets really cold.

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

Well, the icemaker has been installed! Had one batch of ice made already, which I dumped as a precaution.
As usual, what should have been an easy swap turned into a project. First, I wanted to change the water hose to the icemaker and cockpit sink as I presume they were original to the boat. Got new water line and fitting to attach it on both ends and put a ‘T’ into the line for the icemaker. Things were going well until the ½” hose would not go onto the 5/8” hose barb of the cockpit sink. With some muscle and heat, go it on, only to find a leak between the barb and the faucet. Took it all apart to seal the threads with a better rubber grommet and Teflon tape, got it back together with more muscle and heat on the hose to get it on the barb again. This time the leak is between the hose and barb along the gauge created by my razor knife when I had to cut the old hose off. Took it apart again, this time the hose barb went in the drink (I guess I have anger issues after all) Went to get a new hose barb and it would not fit on the threaded end of the faucet. Disassembled everything, including the faucet and went back to the store for a new plastic hose barb. Dry fitted it at home by muscling it on with a pair of channel locks to get the threads “mated.” Installed everything on the boat again, this time it seems to be holding with no leaks!! Oh wait, I forgot, the compression fitting on the ¼” line to the icemaker started dripping so I had to tighten that one this time too.
Did finally get everything leak free and installed. Spent about 3-4 hours more than it should have been, but I guess that is why we own boats!! Now I really need the ice for a cocktail.

Well, now that the boat is in and the icemaker is done, I started some next projects. Now working on adding a cockpit TV and replacing the 7” Jabsco searchlight which has not worked since I purchased the boat. For the cockpit TV, I am using a 19” iSymphony LED TV/DVD combo unit that I had from my old boat. Good picture (1080i), has HDMI inputs and it is very light and thin. It can work on 12v and 110v, but for this I am running an 110v line to the radar arch and adding a GFI outlet. My rational is that I am also plugging in an infrared repeater so that I can control the salon DirecTV box which will feed the radar arch TV from a splitter that I put in previously. I have a swing arm mount installed. It has a quick release to allow me to remove the swing arm if I need to. I will get some pictures posted soon.
The searchlight will be replaced with a Jabsco 146SL. I chose this one because the cabling and controller are the same as the 7” I removed, so the plan was that it should have been a simple plug swap, but the 7” was hard wired so I will need to cut the plug off the new light and hardwire it in as well. I do not relish the idea of cutting a plug off a $400 light, but apparently Jabsco does not sell the plugs separately. I am going to take this one slow and make sure everything will work as expected before cutting the plug. I will get some pictures posted soon for this too.

The cockpit TV had been wired for 120v and Sat TV from the salon box. I use a simple Radio Shack repeater to change the box.

image.jpgDoes anyone have an idea of where to locate a replacement faucet for the transom shower? I believe the threads are stripped on the housing so I cannot tighten it up. I was able to crawl back to it when I removed the old generator and could not tighten the nut. I have no idea what I will do now that I have my Kohler 5E installed, but I will cross that bridge when I get there. Here is a picture of the faucet I am looking to replace. If anyone has done an "upgrade" to another faucet, what did you use?

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

My Norcold frig in salon needs a new cooling unit or I may just have it replaced. I just got a quote for $2,700 (frig and labor) to replace the frig with a Vitrifrigo. This sounds insanely high to me.

I would just replace the cooling unit (approx $700) on the Norcold frig myself, but no one has them in stock, at least no one I have found so far. Your thoughts and guidance would be appreciated!

For the record, I know many think the Norcold is not a good frig, but it always kept food cold, kept the beer ice cold on the top shelf and the freezer was excellent, even for ices and ice cream. My only complaints were, it was noisy and no light.

I can't say anything about the price of the Vitrifrigo, but I know you can get the Norcold DE-61 for about $1,400. Freeport Marine has them for that price.

There's access to the back side through the transom cubby storage area.
Feel for a screw or two that hold a false wall to gain good access.
I replaced the guts and shower wand on mine with HDepot parts a few years ago.
Someone forgot to winterize it (me).
It was all standard stuff, not marine specific so, anything will adapt.
