410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

Hey everyone i am new to the site and I hope I am posting in the right thread. If not please let me know. I apologize if I steped on anyones thread!! .Thanks!

I am seriously considering a 390 / 400 DA with Diesels. Are the Twin QSB 380's good engines and a good match for this 40' DA? Also the boat is just about ready for bottom paint and servicing....is it common for the seller to take care of these items prior to selling? I know this can aslo be negotiated in price as well but just wondering if there is a standard. One owner asked if I were to pay cash and if so then I would not have to do a full Survey. I am sure I would want one in my best interest correct? That comment raised a red flag. Any comments on this boat would be greatly appreciated. I am looking at the years between 2004 and 2006.
Thanks in advance!!

On the bottom job... I think it's all part of your negotiation. If the price reflects a discount for the condition it is in then I wouldn't expect the seller to do it. As far as a survey, it is my opinion you should get one every single time, without exception. The seller is just saying any finance company will require one but if you are paying cash then you could, in theory, skip the survey. It's risk versus reward and in my opinion the risk always outweighs the reward. I would also argue that in most cases the survey will find something you would have missed and save you at least the cost of the survey. I cannot comment on the engines but I have Cummins and they seem to have a good reputation.

What part of California are you located? No matter what, you need a hull survey as well as an engine survey by qualified people! You are making a big investment and this is one way to protect your investment. Your insurance company may want to see the survey results as well.

Well.... We're in Sacramento originally fron the peninsula.
we entered into contract on the 2005 390DA twin diesels with 220 hours! Subject to the full survey. Owners are great people who are now our new friends. Theyre moving up to a 50' range. The cool thing is the wife is just as excited as I am!! I hope everything turns out since it has very low hours!! I am looking so forward in to cruising around with these dieslels. I was blown away! Years ago had a 88 36 Aft Cabin twin gas and what a difference!! The 36 had 350's and guzzled the gas!

I cruised up to Sacramento Yacht Club a couple of weeks ago (rainy weekend) with the Sea Ray Boat Club. Fun trip and nice to see a different part of the Delta. Still way more to do down in the heart of the Delta! Hundreds of anchorages and still restaurants on the water to hit. Much closer to run to the Bay too.

Anyone know where the chain locker drains on 400EC? Want to spray chain lube on chain in locker but not sure where excess lube goes or if it will hurt anything.

It drains directly overboard through a clam shell vent on the port side of the bow. (at least it does on my boat - 1994)

1995 has the same drain...think there all the same from 1992-1998

Thanks...so only thing it could hurt would be the chain lube may run down side of boat if there is excess.
Don't happen to know where I can get a sync gauge do you? I have all new original guages except that one. Have exhausted every source I had.
BTW...you have a NICE boat...I have a 1993 400EC I have been restoring for 2 years.

Thanks! We have been updating/restoring ours since we got her in time for the 2013 season.

No ideas about the sync gauge other than what I and others said in the other thread, may need to replace with a new one and make an adaptor to take up the space.

I need to remove my coffee maker but I can't figure out where it is plugged in to. I can see the cord running in behind the microwave but I don't particularly want to remove that if not necessary. Anyone know where the final destination of this thing is?

You should be able to reach behind and unplug it after you the coffee maker. I removed ours and store a coffee maker alongside the refer. Makes for much needed storage!

Unfortunately the cord goes through a hole in the back of the cupboard and looks to be going the direction of the microwave. I cannot reach to unplug. Really need more space for sure!

Looks like after looking for many months, and having my share of disappointments, I have finally found a great candidate.
2002 410 Sundancer with 3126 Cats.
Anything special, or any unique problem areas, I should look for when I do my inspection this weekend? I'm a pretty decent wrench turner having done all maintenance and 99% of repairs on my old boat, but I have no experience at all with diesels and don't know anything abut them.
I've looked at a bunch of boats over the last 10 months, but most of those have been 380's with gassers.
Exchanged tons of info with broker and put a hold deposit on this 410 last night contingent on my inspection this weekend (3 hour ride away), then survey and sea trial, and clean bill of health from certified Cat Tech.
Very excited about it! Don't like to get my hopes up too high after so may letdowns, but with everything the broker/dealer has provided so far this one looks like a true turn key keeper.
Other than the standard stuff, these are the highlights:
It has 820 hours on it, newer VHF, HD radar, and GPS, new canvas this past season, 6 month old genny with transferable warranty, sat TV antenna.
If it all checks out and the boat is as clean as it looks in all the pictures the broker sent me, I'm going to arrange for a survey and separate engine survey by certified Cat tech.

I just PM'd you some useful information I received on the same boat.

Re: 410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread

Thanks to valuable advice from Carter Chapman and Frank Webster, as of Saturday we will be joining the ranks of 410 Sundancer owners. We will be trading in our 1998 Silverton 360 Express on a 2002 410 and couldn't be more thrilled about it. Other then needing a good polish/wax, she is in extremely good condition. We made an offer on another 410 that fell through and believe we were meant to get this one. We are already planning some minor changes for over the winter(canvas, cockpit carpeting), and look forward to getting out on the water and doing some cruising next summer. I will try to post some pics once the PO's have removed their stuff and we've cleaned her up. 2017 is going to be a great season!!
