410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Check the edit on my post for the screw locations. The vinyl isn't glued in these locations; SR installed the screws then tucked the vinyl into the gap along the side. Just carefully pinch the vinyl and pull it out then using a plastic putty knife tuck it back in when reinstalling. Also don't completely remove the screw on one side; use it as a handle to pull that panel out.
Thanks as always, golden info. I would have gotten impatient and pried it off and broken everything. I hate that mirror too, might have to redo that panel.

Quick storage question, for the past 2-3 seasons we have kept the mid stateroom set up as a bed for guests. The stateroom is now being used as my office, I get to work from "home". My question is, is there a dedicated space for storage of the filler cushions? For the life of me I cannot remember where we stored them in the past.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike, I always left my 410 mid stateroom set up as a bed because I couldn't find WHERE to store the filler cushions!!!

The 410DA series started production in mid 2000 and went through 2004 (from my recollection). The 400DA was from 1996 to mid 2000. In 2000 the Cat engines went from the 3116TA to the 3126TA which was a slight increase in displacement, transition to a raw water cooled aftercooler, as well as some other changes. Generally, the 400DA had the 3116 engines and the 410DA had the 3126 engines when equipped with Diesel. The exported 400DA and 410DA's might have had other propulsion.
SERF = Merritt Island Manufacturing Facility, Florida
SERP = Palm Coast Manufacturing Facility, Florida
These boats were manufactured in both facilities. There was some speculation that the early Palm Coast boats had cored hulls but that's about it. This has been discussed a lot on this forum but to date I don't think anyone has reported a cored hull in these boats.
+1

Hi Guys. New member here even though it doesn't feel that way to me. I have been a SeaRay owner for about 8 years, on my second one, and have always gotten a ton of useful information reading through old and new posts on this forum. I definitly appreciate all the knowledge I have gained and binds it's gotten me out of. Today I finally have a question I can't find an answer for in a thread I was hoping someone might be able to help me out with. As you can see I run a Monaco Edition boat. There are some through hulls that come through in the navy stripe on the boat. They are standard white plastic fittings that were painted the same navy as the stripe. Well, the paint is beginning to chip on some of these and I can't seem to figure out a source to get the exact color I need. Would any of the other Monaco owners I see on here, or probably anyone with a navy hull SeaRay know where I can get this paint? Or, a paint code to source it locally? Any information would be greatly appreciate.
Why not replace them with stainless? I have a standard 400 no blue stripe. The all stainless doesn’t look as cheap.

I've been able to squish the filler cushion into the closet in the mid cabin on the port wall then slide it over to under the window. Assuming there isn't any stuff already in there.

thanks for the advice - I rattled in the cupboard and found my sense of adventure and brave pills, all necessary tools already onboard so it's off to the boat - photo's to follow.

Considering the fact that the decks and some hulls are cored, does anyone know what material SR used (at least during 2000-2002 time frame) for the core?

I really liked the stainless idea that someone else posted. But if you're dead set on blue thru-hulls I'd grab a swatch book from your local paint supplier and head out to the boat. Find the closest match and have them mix it up for you. If you want to go really bonkers buy yourself a spectrometer on Amazon, measure the color and get the exact, pristine match :)

I’ve got the exact same boat as you and mine were chipping too.
I carefully peeled the blue off of all of them and now they’re just white.
They look fine.
Even if you decided to paint them you would have to peel the loose paint off to prep them anyway.
I thought about replacing them with stainless, but after seeing how they look in white, it didn’t make sense for me to change every one of them on the boat.
Swapping them for stainless would mean doing all of them, not just the few that are up in the blue stripe.
Especially since some of them are hard to get to.
If the sides were all blue I would probably go through the trouble of replacing them all with stainless, but since most of the sides are white, the white through hulls look fine against the blue stripe.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I have kicked around the idea of switching to all stainless, I think it would look good, but the fact that there are 19 total on the boat sounds like a big pain for a little chipped paint. I hadn't thought about getting a spectrometer to match it exactly, that would be the way to go if I were to paint them. It would probably chip again, so straight white might be a good solution. Decisions, decisions...

JVM225, I had talked with SeaRay a few years ago when I bought this boat. They had told me there were only 6 410 Monaco Editions made. Do you know if that's accurate? Seems like an awful low number, but I guess they would know. Do you have any idea why not all of the pictures I've seen of them online have the striped seats? Mine had the striped canvas inserts that I thought they all had. I have since had the entire cockpit reupholstered and the inserts done in vinyl stripes. I think it looks great, wife says the navy in them gets too hot though.

Mine came with solid white vinyl seats. It was a no cost option to delete the striped seats for all white vinyl.
Sea Ray CS sent me a copy of the original order sheet for my boat.
I can believe the low production number. Mine is the only one I’ve ever seen in person.
I was initially looking at 380’s with an eye peeled for a 2003 blue hull, but all the blue hulls were pretty badly weathered by 2016 when I was shopping.
I made the decision to shift the search to 410’s after deciding I definitely wanted diesels.
Coming across a diesel 410 Monaco Edition in great condition with a blue stripe was a bonus for me.
While it isn’t a blue hull, I still have the blue accents on the boat and the stripe is in good shape overall.

Looking for help with sanitation hose on 1998 40 DA. I have replaced all the runs except I’m stuck on the shortest one, from the aft head to the coupler. All other runs were accomplished by mating new hose to old and pulling it through. I cannot get the hose to make the turn out from the head into the chase. Afraid to pull old out without it being mated to the new because I can’t reach back to where it goes through the head wall. Could cut a bigger access hole in head wall but I don’t want to do that.

Thanks to Riptide III (Phil) for his expert skill and craftsmanship - installing a new floor in my 1997 Sea Ray 400 Sundancer . And thanks to Sandi for letting me borrow him for a week to do the job!

..installing a new floor in my 1997 Sea Ray 400 Sundancer..

How do you floor hatches work? Are they drop in place, or do you have (or add) offset hinges? I currently have drop in, and am concerned with chipping/damaging the floor inserting/removing them. Looking at installing 170deg offset hinges to help with them - either three separate cabinet style ones, or a long piano style one. Curious what others have done.

Hey there 400 EC owners. I am looking at a Great Lakes only boat with 3116 cat diesels. It’s a 1996. What Are some of the potential problem areas I should be looking at on a boat like this?
I am certainly going to get a survey and engine inspection as well.

There's all the normal things that aren't specific just to the 400EC. But for items that are more specific to this model I suggest: Checking all seacocks because some are hard to get to and may have not been moved in a long time. Hatch over master bed can leak into the deck core. Spotlights can have blown bulbs, bad tilt motor, or bad controllers. Generator very likely may have an old impeller - very hard to change.

I can't really come up with anything else specific to the EC. It's a great boat and those are some great engines. Assuming all of the normal things check out, I expect you'll really like the boat.

Mine are drop in. If you go with hinges let me know what works. Sounds interesting.

I tell ya what...we need this country to open back up ASAP. I'm finding myself searching for projects. Anything I can do. I considered waxing my bow rails recently :)

So a couple weeks back I remembered an item that bothers me occasionally. Dirty gunnels, boarding starboard. Especially when the weather is damp and the kids are playing in the playground/lawn area in our marina. So why not use up some extra fabric and sew a boarding mat? I had some leftover sunbrella from my helm cover so I made the mat below. I'm going to remove the snaps this week and reinstall gypsy snaps so I can leave it on when the canvas snaps on. Otherwise it was a pretty simple upgrade during our first weekend on the water this past weekend. Though I'd be lying if I said I don't really want this thing to get dirty either. ha.
