40 sedan bridge forum

Finally, I am a new owner of a sea Ray 400, I just took possession this last Thursday, I just took it from Punta Gorda, fl to Sanibel Marina in Sanibel Fl,
4 1 /2 hours trip at 1,500 rpm and just spent less than a 1/4 of the tank,
It is only 8 feet bigger than my old 320 sundancer but what I difference, so comfortable that we spent this 4 days on the dock enjoying the boat.
Just can't wait until Friday to go back to the boat. I live in Fort Lauderdale it is a 2 hours driving to Sanibel, I prefer to have my boat in Sanibel, too many places to go just a short distance boating, I went boating to Sanibel for my wife birthday for a week, and we never took the boat back to Fort Lauderdale, it is been 3 years. CSR is an excellent place, I am learning so much about the boat in this thread, hope to cooperate to this thread as well.

Congratulations! Is this the boat you had to rebuild the engines? Also, what speed were you seeing at 1500rpm? I have never spent time in that rpm band. I top out my slow cruising at 1000rpm (running between 7-10mph depending on tide current) then jump right to 2150-2200rpm for speed cruising.

Anyone replace the check valve on the Atwood 11 gallon Hot Water Heater?

We have good water pressure from the City Water on cold but the hot water starts out okay, but the pressure drops considerably after a minute or two. Contacted Atwood and they stated the only restriction could be the check valve. I am not down to the boat until this weekend, so I can't check it out until then, just wondering if I should try to pickup a check valve to have it ready to replace.

Replaced the check valve on the cold water connection to the Water Heater and that fixed the problem!

Sounds like impellers. Are you overheating or running hot? I saw your post on South Bay Strainers. Being I live on and boat on The Great South Bay (which they were designed for) I highly recommend them. Ive never had an issue. You will most likely have to cut the clam shell strainers off. If you do them, don't skimp. Do the AC intake at the same time. Worth the investment

Thanks for the reply. The boat was running hot and after calling my dealer for advice, he suggested the burned rubber odor was caused by an exhaust hose breakdown due to the overheating impeller issue. He was right on as I found the culprit. The inside of the hose was blistered and breaking down. I got rid of the weed issue by back flushing the intake with my water pressure machine. 1600 PSI did the job. No diving!! BTW the dealer stated that an impeller issue would not cause the rubber odor that I had.
South Bay Strainers this fall.

Yes, this is the boat that I will need to rebuild the engines according to the oil report, during the sea trail the boat was running great making WOT 2,650 rpm and 31 mph if I remember well, the only sign of problems was in the oil report samples, I contacted cummins and they told me is impossible to make a decision only based on oil reports, they told me to change all the oils filters run it for another 25 or 50 hours and take another oil sample and keep doing it.

So I bring the boat at trolling speed to my marina, and now cummins power south is doing a full service. I was doing 10,5 mph at 1,500 rpm for 4 hours and enjoying the trip,
Note: With the oil report results I was able to get a huge discount on the boat, it was super clean and super well maintained inside.
Note: at 2,200 rpm I was doing about 19 to 20 mph. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1438733527.285325.jpg

How certain are you on those numbers? At 2200, I'm running 23 knots.

Same as Paul. Between 25-28mph at 2200 rpm depending on tide currents. Also, I get 33mph at WOT. Make sure your boat's bottom is clean. Not sure if you have seen this, but here are the performance curves for your engine. Will help you figure out best value regarding rpm and fuel burn. 1500rpm may not be where you want to be. That burns over twice the fuel in an hour as 1000rpm with only a slight increase in mph. http://www.sbmar.com/Engines/PDF/6CTA/6CTA 430 CPL 2172 Nov 00.pdf

Here are the speed numbers that I wrote it down during the sea trail
Sea Ray 400 Sedan today
Engines Temp was 165 and 170 in both engines.

Sea trail results
700 rpm. 5.5 mph
1000 rpm. 7.7 rpm
1400 rpm 9.1. Miles
1800 rpm. 18.2 mph
2000 rpm. 20.2 mph. Cruise Speed.
2000 rpm. 19.8 mph
2000 rpm. 21.9 mph
2650 rpm. 31.5. Mph. WOT. ( max speed).

32 mph Top speed clean hull
The boat was 1/4 gas full , with 7 adults on board.

I am green with envy. At 2700rpm, which is wide open, I am only doing 26mph.

A current thread started by Mike about vacu-flush triggered my memory that the previous owners of my boat cut out a panel under the galley storage to make easy access to the port head accumulator. Here are some pictures in case any of you want to do the same. I guess they used some sort of plunge cut saw to cut it out.

Just removed the old TV and installed a Samsung 36" in the salon with a Vizio sound bar underneath the cabinet

Hello everybody. We just got our 400 DB delivered, cheers :) We just love the layout and the quality of her!! I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions, be prepared ;) I have one already, how do I turn on the 4 salon puck light, right in front of the windshield?

Congrats! Good to have another South Carolina 400DB owner. Switch is on the side of the galley counter where the two steps are.

My light switch is under my galley counter. Probably different from yours. The question I have is, The boat was transported over land? They didn't have to remove the bridge?

That's how they transported her. They took the radar arch, windshield and Bimini off, not more.

I have a water pressure problem. When I connect to the shore water connection and open a faucet on the boat I have the first few seconds good pressure but then the pressure drops down and after a minute or so the pressure comes slowly back. The water what comes in has good constant pressure, it must be something with the plumbing on the boat. Any input would be appreciated.
