40 sedan bridge forum

The countdown is on....expect to be off blocks and floating thursday. Pretty excited

It was 33 feet. Just hooked up the ends to throttle control and synchronizer today. Fired up the starboard engine and runs great.

Sorry for this delayed response. My3sons you are correct, wish I had your input sooner. One difference on my boat was no real access behind electrical panel, just the stereo cabinet. The conduit runs into the outdoor cabinet beneath the steps behind the ice maker. I removed my ice maker last summer. Aside from the access on port side of the bridge, the entertainment cabinet was critical. The conduit there is open and I ended up feeding the cable into the entertainment cabinet instead of down to engine room. Once discovered the cable pull was pretty easy.

I love your note! Do not step on this lol. Looks great tho. Ill b on my er soon doing much of the same just no as extensive.

Here is what cleaned and stripped down (no paint) heat exchangers look like. Now to paint them and get them back on so I can go boating again. Never done this before - anyone have any super secret tips/tricks for installing the starboard heat exchanger on Cummins, and reconnecting the lower coolant hose? I am figuring I will need two people for this.

Putting the HX back on today. Easy one only took us about 15 mins. Bet the starboard takes a lot longer.

Nice job Bill!! How did they look on the inside before the cleaning? We're you due?

We had run Barnacle Buster through the seawater side when I bought the boat, so that side was almost perfect. I took them off because there were no records on them. So I wanted the coolant side cleaned and pressure/leak tested. I don't plan to take them off again for many years I will keep doing the seawater side descaling every 2-3 years with them on the engines.

I am replacing my CO detector in the master stateroom (the original CO unit), which never worked. I put my voltmeter on it and I have no 12v power. The breaker is not tripped. I looked at the schematics and it shows that each CO unit has an inline fuse? Before I start tracing this, does anyone know where these fuses may be located? Behind the power panel? Hopefully they're accessible?

My '01 400 DB didn't come with a screen door for the slider to the salon but the track is there with wear marks. Anyone have a properly fitting one still on their vessel? Can you forward me the measurements? I figure I can just get one made up with the proper measurements. Thanks in advance!

Had the same problem. The fuse is, as you guessed, behind the power panel and is accessible.
Good luck.

Does anybody know if the under water exhaust tubes are above the waterline? I need to pull apart the exhaust to cleanup a drip, and need to know if this is an 'in water fix'. I'm sitting heavy with full tanks.....water line is to the bottom of the side exhaust holes.

I've had mine off while in the water with no problems.

Thanks for the conformation. Now I need to contort myself into that space to turn the clamps.
Paul, you probably thought of this but I use the generator exhaust exit point from the hull as my reference point to decide if something inside the engine room is below or above the waterline.

Also the local mechanics sometimes stick the appropriate size fender in the exhaust tube when they take them off, as a "just in case".

It gets better than just contorting yourself. Mine had been together so long, I had to cut the exhaust hose to get it apart. 6" exhaust hose isn't cheap.

Bill, looking at that pic, I'm really close to the waterline. A lot depends on how high up that rubber elbow the hull exhaust tube actually is. With full tanks, I'm sitting low....just up to the genny exhaust.

With any luck, I just need to pull the horizontal fiberglass exhaust, and no get into the elbow removal.

Mike, hopefully my hose tool will break the seal without damaging the exhaust. I did some work on the other engines exhaust, and remain optimistic it will come apart.

Good luck getting the new hose installed. I used two chain vise grips and much sweat to get mine reinstalled. Used liquid soap to enable the slide on. A very tight fit to put it mildly.
Not a cheap hose either.
