40 sedan bridge forum

Hey Guys, first post here on the Sea Ray owners site. I have a 2 week old daughter and being up all night has given me the opportunity to do some really good boat reading.

I am going to replace my Lewmar Concept 1 Windlass and have been looking at the Lewmar V3. It appears to be virtually identical in size which will help on the deck fitting and should not force me to upgrade the wiring serving the existing unit. Reason for upgrade is that i want to replace my 100 foot chain plus 250 rope with 300 chain and 100 rope. After 4 years of keeping the boat in Mexico (PV, La Paz, Cabo) plus anchoring in CA where most anchorages are deep (30-50 ft) the additional chain will be a luxury and the Concept 1 is struggling to keep up with the current load.

I am looking for feedback from anybody who has done this before. The job looks like it can be done through the anchor locker but will be very uncomfortable. I have looked a few times at the section of the master stateroom behind the bulkhead and it appears that Sea Ray did not intend this to be removed (or at least easily)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Looks very good. Great motivation for all the work I need to do when the shrink wrap comes off. Thanks for the pictures!

Has anyone replaced the gas struts from the saloon engine hatch covers? I need to replace all 4. Not sure where to get them.

I was able to get them from a NAPA store. Take one with you and they can cross reference the number.

Howdy...Does anyone with a 400 sedan have any knowledge about how our Raypilot 650 auto pilots get rudder angle? Is there a separate gas ram on top of the steering ram or a coil? I am on the boat but the dam generator seems to be blocking my view of the steering system. any help would be greatly appreciated

Mjmason, I just replaced all 4 gas struts in the salon. I replaced them with the strongest ones I could find, I think they were 120s. Be advised that I had to remove the port side couch including the frame for the slide out to reinstall. Starboard side was a breeze. I have an 01 400 sedan bridge. Good luck.

I had some bent brackets on my port side so I took the struts off to be able to straighten the bottom brackets they mounted to. I had no problem doing it without removing the sofa. I used a ratcheted strap to squeeze down the struts to the correct length.

I installing a blueray player under my stereo (port side) and need to run HDMI over to the TV. Any ideas on how to remove that soffit over the slider?

Does anyone know how to remove the salon trim pieces at the floor level that is wrapped in carpet?
Paul is correct. I have had most of mine off for various reasons. Sometime it takes quite a bit of poking and hunting to find them. The long pieces under the sofas actually only have two screws in them - where the sofa's vertical frame piece is located.

I posted this in the for sale forum but figured I would post it here in case anyone was interested

So I bought some NOS bridge canvas pieces off ebay. They were listed as sides but turns out they are two front pieces for the 2 seat bridge. They are brand new Toast color with strataglass. Anyone interested in them send me a PM or email to keiththecop@aol.com. They were $130 plus shipping. To be safe call it $200 even. They come in a big cylindrical tube and are wrapped nice for safety. Here is the link to the auction. http://www.ebay.com/itm/161414083869...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

LO PS is due to your AC running low on freon. Your model boat used the older version and they will eventually leak. I had to replace mine on our 340. It was the same model year as your 40. You can try to recharge, but I bet you have a leak.

Had to replace a throttle control cable today due to stretching of the cable. I discovered 2 hours late that the cabinet holding the stereo in the salon must be opened to feed the cable. Once discovered, pulling the cable took 5 minutes.

Thanks. What are the specifics as to what you did via that cabinet to run the cable?
