Has anyone had all of their windows tinted? Windshield, sides, and rear slider? Curious as to what a good cost might be. I've got a quote for $1500, and with that will require the tinter to drive about 120 miles round trip to do it.
I tinted all my glass a couple years ago. I paid $700 and the guy had to drive about fifty miles round trip. I love it. I wanted him to tint the plexiglass around the helm also, but he stated that it would eventually peel off. I still want to get the plexiglass blacked out, but not sure what products are out there for non-glass applications. That estimate sounds out of line, but I am not an expert on tinting. The guy who tinted my boat does a lot of boats at my marina so maybe that is why the cost was half your estimate. Good luck.

Yes. I just did mine this past spring. But I did it myself. I think I spent about $60 for a good quality roll of extra wide tint on ebay. It's not an easy job, and i HIGHLY recommend 2 people to do it. A spray bottle, a good squee-gee, a SUPER sharp razor and patience is all you need. I always like trying things first myself. If I screw it up, then I'll pay someone. I did the side windows and the slider and am happy with the results - a couple screw ups that probably only I will notice. I have a cover on the front windshield, so I left that alone.

Hey FeLizDream would this tool have helped your sink project?

I just got this new toy, Yamaha WaveRunner VX Cruiser High output, will travel in December for 3 days to Boca Grande Marina, then for 2 weeks to Marina Jack in Sarasota, I’d like to bring the new toy with me, just trying to figure out the best way to tow it, it is too heavy to put in the platform , any suggestions or ideas.

This looks promising.

I never have towed mine, but I recall that you need to put a shut off valve in the hose that scavenges cooling water from the engine. If you don't, water will flow into the cylinders as you tow...

When I bought the boat it had all the old legacy electronics at the helm. Circa 2000. I had several issues with them.

- Charts were too slow to update and plotter controls were very difficult to use with any efficiency
- Radar dome broke pretty soon after purchase
- Autopilot controller was too far away to reach
- Clunky RN300 with passive antenna on radar arch provided GPS data to the helm.
- Ray220 VHF required an awkward key sequence for DSC.

So, I finally went about correcting all this on a budget. I bought the Furuno 1815 radar for standalone radar (which I prefer) and I bought a Standard Horizon GX2200 with internal GPS antenna and AIS receiver. Then I shuffled the deck. The Furuno radar is now installed where the autopilot controller was. The Autopilot is now installed where the RN300 GPS was. The RN300 function has been replaced by the VHF radio - it provides the GPS data for the boat now. The iPad (my spouse got it brand-new for $99 as a promotion for buyer herself a new iphone8) replaces an iPad mini that I use for detailed charts and routes and ETA, etc. The big old RL80C stays and is used for long range chart view and to display data boxes and to record anchor spots (MOB). The old L760 Fishfinder stays and is used for a second depth transducer and finding fish (if I ever go fish). So that’s my new poor man’s helm.

Does anyone use a product like this to screw into the top of your sea strainers to flush/winterize your engines?
http://www.iboats.com/FLUSHING-CAP-FOR-GROCO-1500/dm/view_id.1846971?mkwid=sdx98mZgZ&crid=41829038899&mp_kw=&mp_mt=&pdv=c&cm_mmc=Google_Main-_-Mall+New+Shopping:Google-_-All+Products:Mall+New+Shopping:Google-_-PLAs&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIlaK3xrmb1wIV2o-zCh3aBA6pEAQYASABEgJmZfD_BwE

I'm skeptical with this product because I don't think a standard garden hose can supply enough water/barnacle buster/antifreeze that the engines will require.

If not this product, do you use something else like it?

The last 2 years, I simply pulled the hose off the intake seacock and put it in a 5 gal bucket of antifreeze to winterize (we'd also add a couple more gallons to the bucket as the engine was drawing it down). But doing so is a little cumbersome. That method isn't overly difficult, but if there's an easier method, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks,
John

Yes, I do. I originally made up a pvc adaptor 3" mpt to 1 1/4" hose. Used it every fall. No problem, the 3" threads mate perfectly with the top of the grocco strainer, just stuck the hose in a container of about 6 gallons of pink. That was enough to do the job.

Then last year just before heading out on the loop, I drilled and tapped the lids for 3/4" and plumbed in a connection and valve for fresh water flushing the engines while out in the salt. the hose that connects to the fitting is a 1" hard wall hose so that it doesn't collapse, and I would just draw water from a container while running in the dock hose and running in the e/r wash down hose from the fresh water tank. With both water sources running in, this would work for about 3 minutes before the container was empty because as you noted, they would suck up about 20 gallons a minute, no 2 garden hoses will keep up with that, but I started with 15 gallons in the container, so the 3 minutes would give it a 60 gallon +/_ flush.
Last week I winterized the engines just using the flush adaptors I made up and it worked fine. You can see the adaptors in the pic below.

FWIW, I met a few people with diesels that flush with just a garden hose attached to the fitting like you show, and they say they've been doing it for years with no problem. Apparently the 8 or 9 gallons per minute from the hose is enough to not cause any problems. Keep in mind though that you will need a hard wall or otherwise rigid hose to draw from your container of pink, a soft wall garden hose would most likely collapse when those diesels start drawing with no water pressure pushing from the other end.
For the price of that adaptor though, you might want to just go to home depot and do the 3" pvc version. Good luck

Garden hose always worked fine on raw water cooled 454's but I'm not sure about diesels. I didn't realize that top cap came off of the Groco! I learned something today. I'll be winterizing soon so that helps.

Thank you for this information. I'm going to make my way to Home Depot and get the supplies to do exactly this.

Andy, yes, those tops screw off. That's how you get to the screen to clean. You need a wrench that looks like this (it's probably somewhere on your boat).

You will need to put a simple shut off valve in the raw water pick up tube. I have one on mine and it is a really simple install. I had a friend who ruined his wave runner engine by towing it and not having a shut off valve. Water flowed back up the pick up tube and flooded the cylinders. If you do it yourself, it is less than ten bucks to install it. You will need one shut off valve, two hose clamps, and a sharp knife to splice the pick up tube to install the valve. The valve can be picked up at any big box hardware store. I have a plastic red handled valve so it is easy to see when I pull up the seat and reach into the bottom of the wave runner to turn it off.

Repeat.....you will have to have a shut off valve if you tow it. The boat does not even know the wave runner is back there when being towed. I hook my tow line to both rear cleats so I don't pull a cleat out of the fiberglass. That is a neat tow system you posted. I may have to take a look at that for my boat. Good luck.

It is official! I am the proud owner of a 2000 400DB. 400db-1.JPG 400DB-2.JPG DINETTE.JPG GALLEY.JPG HELM.JPG HELM2.JPG SALON1.JPG SALON2.JPG

Congrats Steve! We are here to help. Chances are someone here has seen and cured whatever issues you run into. And we really like pictures of ways to keep the boat modern and current looking. The exterior lines are pretty much timeless. People I run into think our model is much newer that it is from the outside. But the factory interior is pretty long in the tooth, so if you upgrade anything there, please share them.
