40 sedan bridge forum

Good day to the group. I was able to have a buddy drive while I did some "drone-ography" yesterday!

I'd like to change mine for new ones, I'd like to install the stainless steel with led, did you only change the bulb or you found a new light fixture that fits the exiting ?
If someone did an upgrade to it, love to see a picture and where to buy it.

I removed mine, sanded them down ,repainted, and upgraded with LED side pins also. I think they look great.

I'm changing my engine impellers for the first time and I can't get it out. Is something holding it in as it won't budge.

I had a huge problem the first time I did mine too. It was totally jammed. I could not even push the impeller back in. That is how you will know you have a special problem.

In the end I called the CAT tech in. He went at it with a minisledge and chisel. He got it out. We found that the stainless steel key had somehow got deformed. Those keys are $50 from CAT!

Next time I have that happen, I may look at just removing the pump.

Hope this helps

Hi guys,

as some of you know I'm in between boats right now, waiting for the right time to get into a 400DB. I saw a 36 Sedan Bridge last weekend. Does anyone know why they only built that for 2 years (2007-2009)? Is it much top heavier than the 400 because of its shorter size? Any opinions about that boat? Thanks!!!!

that boat was made longer than 2 years....in later years they added an addl platform and called it a 39......avoid the first 2 years as they had had the problematic eplex system that can be near impossible to fix.....also, economy with the gas engines is under .5mpg.....really need diesels unless your on a lake

I actually carefully pried the first one off before I realized they twisted off. Got lucky and didn't damage it

I just replaced the master duckbills. You do have to remove the pump assembly to get at the two inlet duckbills. Pretty fiddly job. It was made easier for me since I don't have the bunk installed anymore. I did find one pump bolt had vibrated off and fallen into the bellows area. Don't bother trying to first remove the plastic pump cover. Just leave it on. It doesn't get in the way and those little screws are impossible to work with by feel. Here are some pics.

Hi, Bill
I will have to do the same job, I have the same boat and year as you, you should have also the VG2, the access is very tight, I tough it was impossible to remove it until I saw your helpful post.
1) do you have any tip on how to remove the pump?
2) What tools are needed,
3) how long it took for you to remove both pumps do all the work, and put everything back?
4) I think I will also change the below, make sense after all that work.
5) how to remove the pump, unbolt the 4 screws?

The process I use is in this post: http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/53961-40-sedan-bridge-forum?p=910767#post910767

One hint. There are four bolts that hold down the pump assembly. The furthest forward inward bolt is hard to get to. After you take the other three off, you can just slide the pump assembly out from under that fourth bolt. Then take out that fourth bolt after the pump is removed. When you reinstall the pump, don't bother trying to put that fourth bolt back in. Just do the other three and thats good enough to hold the pump in place just fine.

Beautiful evening after a tremendous thunder storm that beat us to death! Installed a new Vitrifrigo fridge, swim platform mounted grill and chased down a bug with the smartcraft system. Fridge is in classifieds if anyone needs parts. It was a good weekend! Even had time for a great cigar and a few beers.

I have recently replaced the two cockpit drain thruhulls on the side of the hull. Both on my boat and another 01. The factory installs are plastic and get brittle and crack. Water shoots in through the crack when on plane. I replaced with sturdier marelon. The left is the old which shows the crack line. Right is the new one.

I just rebuilt the vacuflush pump, thank you to ZZ13 and PMC advice, I tough it was impossible to do it, space is super tight.
I changed the 4 duckbills, elbow and upgrade to the new horizontal motor which is quieter.
Tip: I use crazy glue to keep the tank screw and nut together, to be able to slide in the tank. See pictures, maybe it help someone else. I did one motor in 2 days, I will do the next one after it fail, I think now I will be able to to the next in one day.

Hi, Andy
Love to see a picture of your new Vitrifirgo refrigerator installed. Like ideas to upgrade mine.

That's a great idea FelizD! That washer was the reason I didn't do that fourth one.

I'll take some this weekend. We went with black. I will say that the height of the new trim didn't fit under our cabinet. I think there is a variance in years and/or builds as some have said this fridge directly replaced the norcold. Mine did not. I was forced to cut about 3/8" off of the top trim from Vitrifrigo and about 1/8" off of the cabinet to fit the fridge. The trim wouldn't fit under the overhanging cabinet (moulding removed, christmas trees all reused) and the hinges wouldn't clear under the original cutout. All in all, not a bad install after a trip to Lowes for a little sawzall to cut the metal trim. Used an oscillating tool for the wood.

Fridge is a noticeable improvement. Much more quiet and COLD. Not sure there's more room as my wife immediately filled it (claims to be a few extra cu.ft.)

On another note:

I have only owned this boat a few weeks. I notice that if I come into my marina at idle, go to neutral and put one engine in reverse to initiate my turn, the boat actually turns to the opposite side. I'm a bit confused by this and it has caused me some trouble. Now that I know it does this, I'll adjust but I find it very odd. Rudders straight, coasting idle, put stbd in reverse boat goes to port while still drifting forward. Once I go to a complete stop the props/shifters drive as expected but not until I stop completely. Just to clarify, this isn't my first larger twin screw boat. This one responds very differently than my last (370DA).

Rule of thumbs. Twin screws- hands on the gear levers port forward boat turns to starboard. Starboard forward boat turns to port. Same in reverse. This assuming the opposite motor is in neutral.

One of my state room door handle springs inside the assembly broke. Does anybody know where to get this assembly?
