A couple of electical issues for the 36 and 390 DB folks...

Last visit to the boat, I noticed that the bow thrusters were not operating. Tested the batteries - really low (like 9V). Looked at the charger when it was supposed to be on - no lights at all. So, my first thought was the E-plex. Does anyone know where the E-plex module that controls the thruster battery charger is? The more I think about it, if the the module was bad, it would show up on the display. The E-plex display shows everything is fine. The battery charger appears to be on like everything else. Normally, if a module is bad, you can tell on the E-plex display. Maybe I have a fuse issue, or maybe the charger is toast.

One other gremlin...the 12V outlet on the bridge is putting out only .6 volts. Weird! This is a new problem too. The only thing I can think is that it is pulling power from the thruster batteries, which are now almost dead. The other house batteries are fine. Doesn't seem right that this outlet would be pulling from the thruster batteries, but I can't think of any other reason I would be reading .6V. I would think that it would pull from the house batteries, but...

Any ideas?

Hey Boughtabouy,
I too am having battery issues with the thruster. I hardly ever use them, but had to replace them last year (thought it was just time after 3 seasons), but we fired them up again this year, and something is drawing the batteries dead and they are not holding a charge. I thought it was a bad charger, and I just put two fresh batteries in the boat and did not hook up the charger to them for a few days. The thruster is fine, and my assumption is that if the batteries are holding a charge without the charger hooked up, then I will replace the charger and see what happens. I am heading back there tonight to test the voltage on them. I never even thought about the module being bad which is always a possibility. Do you know where or what module the thruster is connected to?

On another side note, I had one of the light switch panels/module go bad over this past winter. It is the light switch in the cockpit on the transom that controls the outside lights for the cockpit and the stairs going up to the bridge. The lead is getting power, but the panel is not lighting up and the switches are not doing anything at all. I pulled the part # of the light switch and called for pricing.....$842 for the light switch module. I can still control the lights from the main touch screen which looks like my best option with the pricing so high on the replacement switch.

THe Battery charger is part of the AC breakers behind the TV door. You can look at the breaker and also press the LED to turn it on or off.

The 12V receptacle is listed below. I have a bunch of files on e-plex on my web site, http://www.themcgowans.org/files

17 274 366HMM 3 Hexa Multimodule Bridge Module 1 (Bridge, Port)
1 DC Bridge Lights
2 DC Bridge Overhead Lights
3 DC Helm 12V Receptacle
4 DC To Trim Tab Switch Panel
5 DC To Trim Tab Switch Panel
6 DC Electronics Relay

Our boat, Deuces Wild, ( 08 36 sedan bridge with Diesels)was de -winterized last Friday and we spent the weekend on the boat at Salpare Bay Marina in Portland Oregon. We did not take her out because of heavy rain and wind but did run her Cummins Diesel engines and ran the Generator at full load, and did a full shake down. Because it rains everyday in the off season in Oregon the boat, in essence, had a bath every day this past winter with no leaks! We only had a few days in December when there was some light ice and snow..The only repair we needed was to replace the hose to the seacock feeding the two heating/airconditioning units. Our next step is to have Deuces Wild detailed, waxed, etc by Ashley next week..Can't wait for our first cruise of the season!

I'm running a 36 Sedan Bridge in the UK. Has anyone fitted a hatch on the flybridge? I've seen Fairline boats of a similar size with a hatch so wondered why Sea Ray didn't fit one as standard. Is there a Sea Ray hatch out there I can by or is it a case or manufacturing one myself.

Thanks

Are you talking about a hatch door for the stairs. I think it's listed in the parts manual

I too would be interested in any information on the hatch. Trying to keep 2-2 year olds under control on the bridge is fun. The hatch would help a lot.

Thanks for all of the great info, guys!

I took a quick trip over this weekend, and here's what I found. Tested with a meter, and found power to the charger. No E-Plex issue, thank God. Turned the charger off and back on again. Lights on the charger flickered a little, then nothing. I called ProMariner tech support, and they said it was toast, send it in and we will replace it. Simple as that. Right answer, ProMariner! Rather than get the extended warranty involved, and pay trip/parking charges, etc., I think I'm just going to pull it and send it in myself.

I also found out that the batteries are not charged at all off of the alternators on the mains. I thought there was a possibility, tested, and no increase in voltage. Also found a nice surprise in that the bridge 12v receptacle worked fine this time. Might have been a switch that was switched off last time. Who knows.

Just thought you might be interested for if/when it happens to you...

Oh, one more thing...how often are you having to change your thruster zincs? Mine has been in service more than 1.5 years, and diver has never changed them. Doesn't seem right.

People have asked me what the metal box is under the dinette seat......The metal box under the fwd dinette seating is a little junction box forward and outboard, supplying power to the stb stateroom. I've attached a print showing the liner step up that's under the fwd cushions, where is this "metal box" located?

Can anyone either talk me in or out of getting rid of all of the canvas and having a custom cover made for the bridge?

I had just that done 3 years ago. Idea was to put it on early spring and late fall - when we don't use the boat as much - and to extend the lifespan of the enclosure.

Only drawback I see is what you mentioned - pop up storm or travelling in bad weather is an issue. It is a nice feel to be up there with no enclosure to block the wind or the view.

Mine was made by Gioia Sail, which used to be an advertiser here. They do a lot of OEM work. The cost was around $600 if I remember correctly.
