340 SUNDANCER THREAD

New to the Forum.

I need some help. I have found a 2004 340 that I am interested in buying. She has had one owner - and appears to have been cared for very well.

However, on our sea trial she would not even get to 20 mph, with the starboard engine topping out at 4400 rpm and the port only reached 4000.

The fuel in the boat is over 18 months old, and the tank was close to empty. Could old fuel alone have caused this?

Thanks

I currently have a 2002 340 with the 8.1s and top out over 40 miles per hour...don't remember the RPMS off hand. One word of caution on the fuel, my previous boat, a 1998 Silverton had the same issue with old fuel and I had many issues that arose after the purchase including failed fuel tanks and failed fuel pumps. Be extra careful and have a qualified mechanic check the fuel system thoroughly before you purchase. Not sure how you check the fuel tanks other than removing the senders and checking for water at the bottom of the tanks due to separation.

Hey everyone, wanted to start a new topic. What all upgrades, improvements, etc, does everyone have planned for their 340 this Year? Personally, I have purchased complete new canvas from Great Lakes Boat Tops, a new Magma grill, LED replacement lighting for navigation and cockpit, and replacement anchor rode. Looking forward to getting started on installs and the season! Let's hear it from everyone.

Would love to know more about the PasDeck! Could you PM me cost and any pics or tips? I had considered this upgrade as well. Thanks, Rob

Rob,

I have several posts about Plasdeck on my blog - how to make the templates, and lots of install pics. Take a look.

Hello fellow 340r's - has anyone put together a comprehensive maintenance matrix for all components and systems on the boat (either by hours or by season or both) and would be willing to share?

List like this have been posted in the past... This is what I do, in salt water: Change water pumps every 4-5 years. Oil every year. Plugs every other year (gen too). Trans oil every 4 years. exhaust system every 8 years, and begin checking risers at 5-6 years. Belts on second water pump changd 8-9 years. Hoses as needed. Batteries ever 4-5 years. dripless shaft bearings and cultlass bearings every 10 years. Hose clamps when needed. canvas every eight years. Carpets every 10 years. that's all can think of...

Rod, that is a great list. Add impellers every year as well.

Rob, pics of our install are here: http://clubsearay.com/showthread.php/58049-Flexiteek-NuTeak-Flooring-Questions?highlight=PlasDEck. We worked with Travis, the owner of www.ttcustommarine.com who is just great. We did not have to make templates as he has them for all major boats, you just need: make, model and year. My husband and son-in-law put it down one Saturday. It wasn’t too bad to do but you must follow the directions carefully and when it comes to the glue, “less is more”. It’s the caulking to finish it off which is the PITA but it looks better with caulking but it’s a lot of work masking it all off. Really pleased we did it. We have real teak in the cabin which takes more looking after:)

Does anyone know if this anchor will fit a 2005 340?:

I read somewhere in here that we had to replace our anchors with a Kodiac or they wouldn't fit the rollers.
Thanks

I can't speak to this exact anchor, but I tried all the Rocna anchors which are a similar style and none worked. I did compare the Rocna to the delta style in West Marne, I'm guessing it won't work without modification. The plow comes back too far and will hit the bow, same problem as the Rocna.

That's what I suspected. I called South Coast Products, they want $1020 for the stainless Kodiac.
Thanks for your info
Bob

Thanks so much to you and Dale for the info and pics.....maybe a project for next season! Rob

Well, the new season is coming up fast and I've got some last minute projects on my list. I could use some advice and knowledge from those in the know...
1) I removed the screws in the cockpit floor when I replaced the carpets. How do I fill the screw holes? I'd like it to functionally and visually pleasing.
2) The stereo on board (original) only produces sound on the left side of the cabin, but both sides of the cockpit. When I plug an external source into the jack, I only get sound out of the left side of both the cabin and cockpit. I have a feeling it has something to do with the amp(s), but don't know where they are located to work on them or replace them.
3) I have a Raymarine E80 (original) on board with radar and gps integration. I would like to put a garmin plotter on board too so that it is easier to plot waypoints and my wife will used it. I like the Raymarine radar and really don't want to have to replace everything. Any advice on integrating the systems would be appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to provide advice. I have found the advice and knowlege here invaluable in the past.

Is there a proper way to advertise canvas for a 340 for sale on the website? I know you can advertise your boat in a classified, but wasn't sure about other items for the boat that you may want to sell. ....Never mind! Duh....seen the parts classified section!

Well, there goes the short list (see previous post... still looking for responses for those 3 projects)... Took the boat out this weekend and ended up with lots of water inside (it was raining as we were transiting). I've been eyeballing the caulk on the windshield and other areas and noticed it was cracking and turning chalky. After this last trip, it looks like I can't wait until next year to replace the caulk. Any recommendations for the brand/type to use?

Hi guys

Having problem with my windlass in my 340, Lofrans progress 1.
I can´t get the helm switch to enlight and activate the windlass.

I have cleaned all contacts, also at windlass
I have 12v at the switch (red cable)
I have tried a new switch
I have runned the windlass by connecting a battery directly to the engine so I know it works
The windlass solenoid is new since 2 years, everything worked year 1, but last summer the switch don´t enlight and I can´t controll the windlass.
The solenoid didn´t have burned 5A fuses, but changed them anyway
I hear the solenoid click in ER when I hit the swich at the helm.
I have 12V++ on both side of the solenoid and also on both sides of the high amp breaker (100A). This is not resettable but looks ok.
I have 12V on the middle of the control box in the front.

Any Ideas, has the controlbox failed or the windlass solenoid?
The systems seem to have 12V but I can´t activate it from the helm.
I had some problems the with the switch first summer, when I had to click back and forth to activate the switch (green light)

The high amp breaker IS resettable. Push the red button to "trip" the breaker and you will notice a little arm swing down on the breaker. Reset the breaker by swinging that arm back up into position. I had the same exact problem.

people have had good luck with BoatLife. Where does your windscreen have caulk?

Going to install Hurley trim tab lights on 2007 340. Anyone have a picture of the transom and where best to put the thru hull cable. Thanks

Kreole Kid,

My breaker don't have the red reset button :(
I bypassed the breaker by connecting the red cables together, the symtoms are still the same. Clicking windlass solenoid, but button don't enlight...
