340 SUNDANCER THREAD

Have to agree with the above, the 340 is not an easy boat to tow. When we had ours delivered, mainly by Interstate, we had to have some of the electronics removed from the radar arch just to get under some bridges and that was on a low-loader truck. I could not imagine towing it for fun....but suppose it could be done.

I tow my 2000 340D from Priest River, Id to Anacortes, WA(395 miles) every August to cruise the San Juans. Last summer we ended up cruising in Desolation Sound, BC. I have a 4 axle trailer and the weight of the trailer and boat is 16,800. I tow it with a 2009 Dodge 3500 Dually. The width is 11'5" so I have an oversize permit but don't need pilot cars. I have attached the radar (GarminHD) so that I can get it off the arch in about 10 mins. That leaves the boat height 13'4". I have no bridge problems on the way over. It tows nicely at 62mph.

I posted recently addressing the towing issue for my 2000 340D. I tow it on a 4 axle trailer that weighs 2,850lbs plus 14,000 for the boat with quarter tanks and the dinghy on the back. So I'm pushing 17,000. I have to take my radar (GarminHD) off (I have a mount that lts me have it off in 10 mins) which leaves me at 13'4" so bridges aren't a problem. I tow it with a 2009 Dodge 3500 Dually.

Starting to outfit the boat and I need to know if she has an integrated flag pole holder. I dont have any descent pictures of the gunwales or aft of the boat since she is under wrap. Not sure if this was a standard feature or not. Im talking about the nice flush mounted sturdy SS pole holder not the bolt on to a grab rail type.

Zorba- the factory option is a flush mount, magnetic base pole. You can send your HIN to Sea Ray via Searay.com and they will send you the spec sheet for you boat.

Alex after reading your post about options on the boat and seeing Carters reply I sent for the info on my boat.Sea Ray sent info to me in less than 24 hrs. What a great company.

They sure are a great company. before I bought the boat I sent Rusty an email with my HIN and by the end of business the next day he got back to me. Great company, but more importantly great employees.

I was anchored this weekend and I didn't set the metal block on the chain. I was inside and hear a sound like the chain falling out.

All of the chain feed out and the windless would just spin and whine. I pulled the chain up by hand and finally got it to spool in the chain if there was some tension, but not very much.

Have I stripped or messed up my windless permanently??

I believe there is some type of "clutch" on the top of the windlass to adjust the tension factor on the chain / line. Open your windlass hatch and there should be a tool that mounts under there somewhere and it has a handle attached to it. Should be self explanatory from that point. Others may want to chime in, but I think that's your problem.

Hey I had a similar thing happen recently...but the opposite...the chain and line would pay out but the line wouldn't feed back through the hole down into the locker. The gypsy worked fine, I think it's the finger unit in the base. I was able to manually stuff everything in but then the point where the line and chain were spliced was too big so I had to cut the line and pull it through, then stuff the chain through and retie the line and chain. Still doesn't work but I'm having it looked at tomorrow.

Man, long distance boat-ownership sucks.

My chain rode works ok but the transition to rope point I need to put pressure on the tension device. Somebody said I need a new spring?
There was a small piece of metal laying next to the base when I went to investigate. I noticed the spring then, too. The spring fits on a small spindle and the top and bottom ends fit into slots. The good thing is so far your problem and mine are the least expensive pieces to repair/replace.

I was gonna say it was the spring but you guys beat me to it. My buddy had the same thing happen to him last year.

I am having the same issue. Most of the time I lay the boat hook down, with the handle next the tensioner. When it hits that point I nudge the boat hook with my foot, just to ease it through. How complicated is it to replace that spring? or is it an adjustment?
