340 SUNDANCER THREAD

Did my Sea Trial and Survey on a 2006 340 with Sport/Fishing Pkg today. Amazing! Closing on her this Friday. My family and I are so excited to make the jump to this size boat (have owned a new 2002 23' SR in the past). The 8.1's prrrrr'd and got on plain w/ 6 big guys onboard with no effort today! Also, dealt with 2 of the most professional surveyors I could have hoped for - arranged by our broker, Rob Wojciekowski, from Tom George Yacht Group. I will post pix when we get her in her new home-slip in Clearwater Beach next week. :smt038

Congratulations! Enjoy!

On my 2002, the amps are located behind the head unit and CD changer. Remove the panel they are mounted in, and you'll see the amps.

Can someone give me the measuremant of the TV/VCR opening in a 1999 340 Sundancer. I would like to have a door made for this opening, but the boat in under wrap now. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Thank you, BritLady.....may see you and yours out on the water!

I'm going to look at a 2006 340 with 6.2s this weekend. I have been reading the thread and haven't seen many posts from 340 owners with 6.2s. Since most I see are running the 8.1s, I'm concerned that the 6.2s will be underpowered. Any thoughts or comments on this would be very helpful.

Well, IMHO, the 8.1's are the engines you want in a boat this size and weight. They put me right up on plane and cruise with plenty of power. I think it's best to have plenty of power particularly if you entertain and run with friends and family on board (all of whom come with lots of gear.) Whatever you do don't get sucked into thinking your going to save money on fuel economy with 6.2's. Anyone else's thoughts?

I recently purchased a 340 with 8.1 VD's, did a fair amount of research and didn't see many with 6.2's. I would think with full load and passengers you may reconsider. Having come from a 250 Monterey which was fine with limited amount of people it really struggled to get on plane under a load when we had more onboard.

Well, I took it out on a short sea trial. It does have V-Drives with the 6.2. It seemed to come up on plane really nicely. I was pretty impressed. Now I have another question... When I was looking through the boat I looked under the v-berth and in two pockets at the head of the bed there was water. The dealer said that it was condensation from the heater/air conditioner, but the water was 2-3 inches deep. I'd bet that there is a drain plugged, but I can't believe that the heater/AC unit produces that much condensation. Anyone else have a simular situation or know what could cause this condition?

The condensation from the AC?Heater should be draining into a drain pan. From the drain pan to a sump and then pumped overboard. Beware of boat salesman!!!!!!! You should not have any water in those pockets.

Thanks. I suspected it was a leak, but needed to validate that. I'm having the dealership look into it. Hopefully they find it.

I'm excited for the possibility to get a 340. It rode so nice and it has plenty of room for my wife and I. Looking forward to be a member of the 340 club.

I'd still be interested in hearing from anyone that is running 6.2 v-drives. I understand the perspective of the owners with 8.1s, but I would like to hear the reality (not meaning to offend anyone).

Deal is still in progress, but would like to know if anyone has replaced thier OEM 3 blade props with 4 blade props. The vessel I'm looking at has the OEM 3 blades on 6.2L V-drives. I've heard that 4 blades make a huge difference with this engine setup. Any help would be appreciated.

I replaced the three bladed props on my 340 with 4 blades from ACME. They run very smoothly, and it definitely helps around the dock. You'll also see a slight increase in mid range efficiency. You can check my blog for more info on the props. I am also updating the blog, starting tonight, so there will be quite a bit more 340 info on there in the coming weeks. Hope this helps....

Interesting blog Masterfab, sure looks like you are enjoying yourself.

Yes, there is a certain satisfaction in doing everything myself, and fabricating a lot of my own parts. But, it takes a toll too. My father and grandfather suffered from arthritis in their knees as they got older, and it looks like I'll be maintaining the tradition - some days they hurt like hell. Too much crawling around in tight spaces! I need a bigger boat....
