340 SUNDANCER THREAD

Does anyone know how to change the foam insert filter for the motor in the central vac? My package of vac bags came with a new one but I cant seem be able to pry the clamps off the fan motor cover?

Hello all,

My name is Sam and I am in the very final stages of closing the purchase of a new-to-me '01 340 Sundancer with T-7.4 Mag Horizons. Here is a link to the sales add so you can see our new toy. http://www.questwatersports.com/2001-sea-ray-340-sundancer--c-738.htm She has only 171 hours on the engines and 27 hours on the gen set. We have had her surveyed and mechanically inspected and she got excellent returns on both and the sea trial went very well also. This is the largest boat I have ever owned or driven but she was surprisingly easy to handle and maneuver.

During our pre purchase research we came across some information about the 2000-2001 6.2 and 7.4 Horizon engines experiencing some water ingestion failures when equiped with the "log style" exhaust. I only bring this up because I saw this thread has some mention of the fix was a change to the water lift fuffler system. Now I'm a bit concerned that we might have been given some bad information on this issue and might want to reconsider our purchase before it is too late. We spoke with the service manager at the dealership and also with our local mechanic about this issue (this boat has the log style exhaust) and have been lead to believe this issue is/was central to salt water boats due to manifold and riser corrosion. During the inspection and the survey, there was no sign of any water ingestion issues on either motor and the compression tests were well within specs (150 high and 140 low) for both engines. Should I be overly concerned about this issue? Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Other than that, we cant wait to get her. If all goes as planned, we will close the deal next week, and have the dealer winterize, wrap and dry store her for the winter. We will pick her up in the spring and drive her home. It should be a great trip...232 miles straight down stream on the Illinois river to our marina which is just off the confluence of the Illinois and Mississippi rivers.

Thanks again for any help and/or advise and I look forward to making many new friendships on this site.

Sam

I bought a 2000 340 a couple years ago. I put about 100 Hrs. on her with no problem. I sold it this summer and the new owner did a compression check and all cylinders were 145 to 150. I've heard the same salt water claim, for fresh water it doesn't seem to be a problem. I contacted Marine Max at Lake of the Ozarks and they hadn't heard of a single problem. I had Lewis Marine at I70 and Cave Springs exit do much of my service in the past, talk to Brian Lewis. They told me a leak down test would be a better way to go than just a compression check.

I just finalized my purchase of a 2004 340, full camper canvas, fresh water with gennie. Key factors for my decision was knowing the previous owner, the large amount of storage space (family of six) and the test drive, twin 8.1's make it a real rocket ship. Now I just have to wait for ice out on the lake...

Congrats. Its fast, but watch the gas. Great boat.

[SUP]Good day and happy New Yearto you all,[/SUP]
[SUP]Follow-up from the boaterfrom Ottawa, Canada. We have joined the 340 Sea Ray family and upgraded to a340 Sea Ray Sundancer 2003, it had 200 hrs, 8.1L Horizon, 740hp, VDrive, Raymarine LT70 GPS chart plotter and SL70C Radar, systems monitor,5kw Kohler gen (25 hrs), teak floor inside and on platform and all the otherbells and whistles... [/SUP]
[SUP]We have enjoyed our newboat (too us it's new) weekends this summer. My first experience with twomotors and duel screw. I find it remarkable and easy to maneuver, very powerfuland fast. Love it.... I feel howeverthat it is time to update the nav. equipment. Therefore this winter I have comparedthe Raymarine and Garmin and decided that the best equipment that suits my needsis the Garmin GPSMAP 720 and GMR 18HD Marine Radar.[/SUP]
[SUP]Questions:[/SUP]
[SUP]Does anybody know if theGPSMAP 720 flush mount fits on the consul of the 2003 340 Sea Ray? I can'tmeasure it right now because it is in storage under shrink wrap (don't forgetit is -20C here not exactly boating weather? If anybody has this nav. equipmentor know something about it I would be greatly appreciated any tips or adviceyou may have. I thank you all for your assistance in advance and wish you all agreat boating season in the new year.[/SUP]

The panel where the stock GPS units were installed from the factory is 11 1/4 wide X 10 1/4 high give or take a quarter inch here or there. The cut out for my SL70CRC is approximately 8 X 7 and I believe there is plenty of depth behind for any unit that will fit the panel space. Hope that helps you out.

Good day, Good to Go,
Thank you for the info and your quick response.

Just took the title to our new to us 2002 340 Sundancer with 6.2's. We purchased the boat from Platinum Yachts/ Colony Marine and so far these guys are top notch and great to deal with. Sea trial will be in the spring and we can't wait. Just wondering if any other 340 owners have added a 32" TV to there boat? Also thinking of adding a subwoofer and larger amp. I would really like to see any pictures of TV upgrades from other 340 owners if they are willing to share. I have done lot's of searching but have not come up with much.

Dan

I'll be adding a larger TV, subwoofer, and sound system to my 340 soon. Keep an eye on my blog for upcoming details, probably in a month or so.

I added full JL Audio sound system to my '04 340. Two power amps in cabinet behind midberth (next to power panel), 10 inch subwoofer placed in the pedestal base of the port seating station, 7.7 inch JL speakers all around. Ipod connection at the helm station. My system rocks the bay! Seriously.

Where are you going to place a 32 inch TV? I'm interested in doing the same but don't know where to put it.

Dan:
Check out the 2002 340 Sundancer on Searays For Sale. Color TV mounted on Radar Arch. It has a cover and folds up when not in use. Great to be outside and watch TV. Also this boat has a neat rear bimini enclosure with covers.
