340 SUNDANCER THREAD

Bruce, I made a hole right through the bulkhead, being careful not to hit the breaker panel on the other side. I measured over to a spot where it was clear, then drilled a small hole to get a location...it ended up being almost 2 1/2" to go through (to the inside of the helm hatch).
Then I enlarged the hole to accomodate both the ac plug and the antenna cable. I then had my electrician install an AC outlet inside the helm hatch and plugged the tv into that (he stole the power for that outlet from the outlet in the cockpit near the fridge). I made another hole fop the antenna cable to go back down into the aft cabin ceiling and ran that cable over to the flip down TV, where I connected it to that antenna cable, which I don't use anyway because it's not a digital tv.
A lot of work but it's a nice clean install with no exposed wires.

Tony, did he run the a/c wire through the bilge?

I'm looking for clipart or line drawing of the 340 Sundancer in order to make some tee shirts sweatshirts etc. Does anyone have anything?

OK I got the aft bed put together. I had to take out the stationery piece that is under the control panel completely pull the bed out up and over the centeral vac box put the two long pieces and one square piece in place and force the bed portion back until I could force it beside the central vac box. I was able to use a twin fitted sheet on just the bed portion and tucked a flat sheet on the portion that was under the control panel. A little awkward working with the short ceilings while a little warm but got the job done. It 'might' sleep two, we will find out this weekend. Here are some pics of the process. Question: What are the two sort of triangular plastic vent covers on the port side of the boat called? They are located just above the Sea Ray logo and are the same color as the hull (my case, green).
I'm afraid, I uh...had a little...close encounter with a sailboat I was trying to tie up to during a particularly choppy sea.
I managed to recover one but I need to order another one and don't know what they're called.

Anyone have any thoughts or experiences? anyone know where the assembly is located on the 340? Thanks!

Brewster,

Do a search for - vacuflush - Gary (Four Suns) and JediJD did great writeups on the system, changing duckbills etc. One of Gary's posts has a great picture of the system and he added labels on all the parts. The Judge's pictures are great as well. If you can't find the links, give me a twixt back and I'll dig them out...

688721 COVER, CUSTOM CLAMSHELL (ABS/DR)

rhodyboater, this is the part number from my parts catalog. I don't believe that it's a "Sea Ray" part but that is the "Sea Ray" part number. Check your local marine supply store, good luck.
P.S. I think they come in white so you might have to paint it.

Re: 340 SUNDANCER THREAD/Batteries

Question: Does the 340 take NC27 or 31 batteries?
I have 27's installed in mine but I noticed today the manual says 31's.
?
I have the genny so have 4 batteries.

Re: 340 SUNDANCER THREAD/Batteries

Mine came with Grp 31s...4 like yours. I've replaced the two port (house) sides with Sears Diehard Platinum AGMs...

Re: 340 SUNDANCER THREAD/Batteries

Carter, I always believe in buying the best, especially where batteries are concerned, so I checked out reviews for the AGM Sears batteries. They have great reviews but there seems to be an issue with these batteries requiring a heavy duty charger (I've read 40 amps).
My shore power is 30 amps and I'm not sure if the 340 has the requisite charger installed to keep these big puppies charged correctly...any issues?

Re: 340 SUNDANCER THREAD/Batteries

Tony,

Like you, I have two 30 amp shore power/Genny circuits, with the "AC Converter (Charger)" on one circuit. I looked into my charger specs, wet cell vs. AGM charging requirements, and as I recall, they were almost identical. I've had no problems now going on 1 year plus with my two port side AGMs...

I have been using the group 27 batteries... All my batteries are now Diehards, and the seem to be just fine... The group 31s are a lot more money... I would rather spend the extra money in buying batteries more often than buying group 31s...

Any advise on repairing / replacing the genny (Westerbeke 4.5 KW) on my 2002 340 Dancer would be appreciated. I apparently ingested water and bend a rod - my boatyard has not been getting any positive response from Westerbeke about getting a rebuild, so I've made a couple calls to see if I can get someone local to rebuild it. No luck.

I'm also curious how much of the stbd. engine needs to be removed to pull the genny.

Any thoughts?

Yes, I admit, I did the same thing... I rebuilt the the engine, $2,000+ in parts, and I almost got it work... I set the timing 180 degrees out, bent the valves, and then I threw the towel in... Westerbeke can rebuild it, but frankly it is not work the cost. The 4.5 is not made anymore. The replacement is the 5.0 KW. A new 5.0 KW cost about $6,000... I would recommend that you replace you generator with a new 5 KW, and sell the old one. I had fun trying to fix mine, and I learned a lot... One of things I learned is I should have replaced it before I tried to fix it...

I had Silver Cloud Marina, in Forked River, NJ, install my genny and it works fine... My wife continues to bring up my wasted money ever time she wants to buy something... Please don't do what I did...

Oh, BTW, You have to remove your riser and elbow to get it out... I rewired a friends jet ski lift to pull it out... It weighs more that 300 lbs... I got good at getting in and out...

Thanks rcknecht. With the heat wave we have been suffering through, AC sure would be nice, but I think I'll wait until the boat gets hauled for the winter and deal with it then. In the meantime, I'll keep blaming the wife for breaking the damn thing in the first place - must have been her fault!

Re: 340 SUNDANCER THREAD: 2002 340 Sundancer "forward bilge pump"???

Anyone know about the "Forward Bilge Pump". I've located it under the aft compartment floor, but only because the carpet was soaked. Water getting in somewhere but can't track it back. Maybe coming from the main bilge? Where does the water come from that could affect that area of the boat? Already checked the shower sump (different area). Any answers would be appreciated, THANKS!

I had similar leak on my 300DA and it turned out to one of my cockpit cover snaps that was leaking... You fresh water tank is in that area too and it could be leaking...
