340 SUNDANCER THREAD

Does anyone have any experience with Hurley Davit system on their 340DA? I am interested in mounting a new Mercury 270 Airdeck with 5 HP Mercury outboard. Thanks....

Bob

There is a lot of info out there on the various systems in a couple other threads and a lot of into on "do it yourself" setups in threads that I believe are titled "dinghy davit", etc. I used them extensively to have mine fabbed up. Basic info though- The slide on models can be tough with our higher elevation platforms (24"). Placement can also be tricky given the way our integrated platforms curve around a bit.

Good news is- your dinghy should be pretty light and easy to load however given it's light weight. Provided your arms are long enough, should not be much of an issue at all to load, you'r biggest challenge will be keeping it on there with wind and when your wake chases you down upon rapid deceleration. All very manageable though.

Other thoughts on design modifications- I ended up designing my mounting arms to extend out further in order to regain some platform real estate, use some significant backing plates to prevent any gelcoat cracking and increase my load rating, and I'm in the process of adding some heavy duty (600lb rating) latches that come with extended pull straps (so you don't have to ever reach under the dinghy) to release and yet allow you to slam them shut to secure the arms. Mine are designed for the weight of the dinghy to hold it down just like all the rest....... problem is..... my dinghy is a little light and therefore does not hold itself in place very well and I don't want to have to worry about anything........ so I like the positive engagement of the latch without the hassle of getting down on my knees to insert pins by using the integrated pull straps..... My end goal is these 2 latches and 2 straps are the only requirement for securing things and should not take more than a few mins. I also have it designed to be able to use different arms for various toys (I'll be making arms for my stand-up jet ski).

PM me or e-mail me and I'd be happy to share some pics that are specific to our boat or help with any other questions.

Thanks,

Eric

Back to the tv question on the bulkhead over the aft cabin....
Is there a secure way to mount the tv to this "wall"?
It is just a pocket wall for the sliding door and probably not
strong enough to hold lag bolts from the wall mount bracket.
Is there a way to access the back of this wall to use through bolts?

I've since successfully installed my tv. I didn't realize by sliding the cabin door back a bit and reaching in through the hatch door right below the helm, I had full access to the back of the pocket wall and could control the bolts without sticking in too far.
I found 2 1/2" long 1/4-20 hex head bolts with nylon locking nuts worked perfectly.

Thanks Eric. I have ordered the Hurley Davits. I will certainly let this forum know how it goes.....yes, the 24" elevation off the water gave me some pause as did the molded/curved platform. Again, I will let you know how it goes.

Tony, that's exactly what I did in mounting my new 32" t.v. on the bulkhead wall. I used a very slim mount for the t.v. and measured about 12 different times to make sure that my electrical panel door would clear it. I like the idea of using the "Ny-lock" nut system so they will probably never back out.

Where's the pics of the new table? I can't wait to see that!!!

Bob ... we are also looking at the Hurly Davit System for our 05 340. Any idea what the instalation costs would be?

Sorry to bother you guys but I'm trying to buy a used sun pad for my 2007 340DA. I found a 320DA (2007) Sun Pad on line for sale. Trying to see if it will fit.

Can anyone out in the 340DA world tell me what the measurments are for your sun pad? length? Width at the head rest? Width at the bottom where your feet go?

The 320DA Sun pad measurments I was given were 38" long / 41" at head rest and 37.5" at bottom. I measured my rail system.......something seems off. It's close.....but showing that the 320DA sun pad is bigger at the bottom??? Does not make sense.

Thanks in advace for the help

Make sure your sun pad has the concave end closest to the windshield.

Bruce, I also found something out about my TV. I couldn't easily get the Glomax antenna connection to it so on a whim I bought a amplified digital antenna from Best Buy and it rocks! Lots of stations crystal clear. I haven't mounted it yet but plan on double stick taping it to the ceiling of the aft cabin.
The table is almost ready...here is the layout for it:

Tony, I put a splitter on that p.o.s. flip down tv in the aft section and fed that to my new 32". That cable on the aft tv is fed from the glomax amp up front by the other tv. I have cable at the marina and the picture is stunning. The only thing i don't like is that I can't get the tv "guide" to show on the tv, so I have to flip through all the channels to see what's on. I guess maybe I should look into getting an actual cable box.

Well, I'm receiving my davits this week and am planning on installing them myself. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks Bob. We are still in conversation with the Hurley folks so hopefully we can move this along. I would think thatthe same system you purchased for your boat would work for ours? We have a soft bottom 12' boat c/w a 9.8 kicker - about 200 lbs overall.

Re: 340 SUNDANCER THREAD--questions HELP

Hey all...new member, first time poster. I am in the market for a 2005 340 and found one nearby. I had a couple questions and wanted to get some thoughts:

This particular boat has almost 300 hours and spent some time in salt water before being moved to fresh water in the river. could anyone advise any issues I might have with the previous salt water or any other general maintenance issues/converns with a 2005 340 DA. It has Twin Mercruiser 8.1S Horizon V drives. Thanks and looking forward to replies.....

It was made with aluminum exhaust manifolds - they are a huge issue. Have them inspected and probably replaced. The transmission coolers could be an issue - must inspect.

Well the Hurley Davits arrived today. Looks and feels like high quality device.
Seems very easy to install also. 2 stainless steel bolts and a backing plate inside the hollow swim platform should do it. I will let you know more after the weekend.

Bob ... I ordered the 36" Davits today and also the:

2 Tie down folding padeye’s
2 Tie Downs
1 Outboard Motor Strap
2 Pin Lanyards

I expect delivery in the next 10 days or so and I'm looking forward to hear of how your installation went.

Best regards,

Bob/Brian--
Congrats on new Hurley davits. I've also been looking at them--did you all get the new H2O davits or the old traditional ones? Presume the old ones given extended swim platform version. I'd be interested in any pics of them mounted when your complete or any advice on installation as that would be helpful. Thanks much!!!!!!!!!!

Al ... the following are the installation instructions that were sent to me:

INSTALLATION for 36” Mounted Davits
It is recommended having a knowledgeable marine service individual install your davit.
Step 1: Determine where to locate the assembled davit and mounts on the swim platform. It is suggested
to off-set the davit, during installation, on the platform so that the stern of the dinghy is more supported
due to weight of motor, etc.
Consider these factors:
a) Orientation of the dinghy. Should I have the bow toward the port or starboard side of the platform?
b) Will your Hurley Davit™ interfere with a transom door or ladder?
c) How much space is needed between the vessel’s transom and dinghy to accommodate the dinghy
properly? Minimum of 18” is needed on the platform for these mounts.
d) Are mounting holes clear of swim platform support brackets and/or stringers?
e) Measure twice, drill once!
Step 2: Pre-drill one hole through the swim platform for both of the larger mounting blocks (using the
mounting blocks as a template). Fasten mounting blocks with stainless 1/4” or 5/16” bolts, fender washers,
and lock nuts (not provided). Stainless steel plates can be used for the top of mounts or for backing plates.
Step 3: Slide mounting arms into the mounting blocks and insert push pins.
Step 4: With the Hurley Davit™ in place, adjust mounts so they are parallel and square.
Step 5: Adjust smaller mounting blocks to the edge of the swim platform.
Step 6: Using the mounting blocks as a template, drill the remaining holes.
Step 7: Remove all parts from the swim platform and generously caulk the bottoms of all mounting
brackets and fasteners with 3M 5200 adhesive/sealant.
Step 8: Bolt mounting blocks to platform and allow 3M 5200 adhesive/sealant to dry.
For Integrated Swim Platforms (non-accessible):
• Solid Core platforms can use screws.
• Hollow Core platforms should use toggler anchors (not provided).
• Always use 3M 5200 adhesive/sealant.

I just heard back from dealer and this is what they said. I'd like Any input from forum members:

MANIFOLDS ARE ALUMINUM
THEY ARE THE NEW STYLE “ SIMPLE MANIFOLD”
THEY HAVE STAINLESS STEEL ELBOWS
DRY SOCKET DESIGN
NEWER TYPE RISERS
THESE ARE THE LATER DESIGN –WHICH CAME AFTER THE MANY ISSUES AND RE-CALLS THAT WE HEAR ABOUT.
THEY HAVE BEEN CHECKED BY A MASTER TECH, AND FOUND TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION.

Any input would b appreciated.
