260 Sundancer Thread.........Comments questions and answers

Hi mnperry
I bought the same boat three years ago (without the arch). Mine had <300hr...after putting about $8k into the engine, I ultimately had to replace it at another $11k. I know this can happen to anyone - luck of the draw. I did have mechanical survey, but it failed to catch some serious problems. From my limited experience, I would recommend survey and sea trial. You should run up to 4500 rpm and 38+mph. Also, check the sliding cabin door. If it doesn't slide free and easy, you may be in for a major repair. I did this myself last summer - it is a hell of a project for DIY or a $2k bill to have it done. There are a thousand things to look for, I'm sure. Just sharing the two big ones that tripped me up with this model.
Otherwise, I absolutely love this boat!

Update on the 2001 260 I was looking at: It's OURS! We took delivery on it yesterday and so far couldn't be happier! Ended up picking it up for 20k... now just going through with my toothbrush and buffer and it'll be in the slip next week!

Congrats! Don't EVER tell my wife what you spent. I'll never hear the end of it..."see! We could have gotten something within the budget."

Ha, I know... I'm still waiting for the pinch, but I think I found a heck of a deal. Book on it says ~36k with the options. All the market comparables are 28-38k or so. Let's just hope I don't end up spending all my time searching out threads in the Mechanic/Maintenance forums!

Anyone with a 260DA come up with a good idea/ substitute for a bow/sunpad that stores relatively easy?
I am not even sure if a bowpad was on option when purchased. Admiral needs something more comfortable then just throwing a beach towel up there!
thanks in advance!

We bought two of these from West Marine, they fold flat so can be used as a sunpad and ratchet up to sit and enjoy a cocktail while watching the sun set. Kept them in the bilge pretty easily.

I have two 2" self inflating pads that work pretty good. For them from Costco a couple of years ago.
When not in use they roll up. They will blow away in the wind though if you're not careful.

Where have you put your boat name?

After much deliberation we are finally about to order name stickers for our boat. Question though - where is the best place to display the name? The boot lid on the transom is centred but somewhat obscured by my BBQ and dinghy, I was thinking about putting the name to the starboard side of the transom near where the "260" (or in my case "275") numbers are. BTW the name is only short - ACARA (it was the name of the last ship my great grandfather commanded), but I will probably put the hailing port PITTWATER in a smaller font but the same width directly below the boat name (if this makes sense). Any thoughts or photos of your name placement would be great. Thanks in advance.

Hey Folks - I've done some poking around but can't find a good resource for Searay OEM parts or equivalent quality. Getting the new vessel dialed in for the summer...

Here's what I'm looking for:

- Replacement Steering Wheel
- Shelving and beverage door racks for the fridge
- Galley sink cover (cutting board)
- Replacement 260 Oval Badging
- Replacement 260 Decals

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks,
Adam

Fridge is likely a Norcold. Do a google search and you can find some items. Try eBay for badges and decals. I redid all of my decals from eBay. The guys email is david@shabestari.com. Searayman13 on EBay has a lot of hard to find items as does Flounderpounder.com.

I used Marine Max for replacing my badges/stickers. My local dealer had them in stock and the 215 badge they ordered and had mailed directly to me. Prices were about the same as eBay, however they have probably have the parts catalog to match what you had......

Where/ how do you store these in the bilge?

So I rigged up some tie down points on the wood deck above the gas tank and along the back wall. This allowed me to use bungees to hold them in place. No genny in my boat though, so your milage may vary in that spot. You can kind of see them a bit to the left of this photo.
