260 Sundancer Thread.........Comments questions and answers

wyrman thanks for the repost.

mnperrys - that steering wheel is a good fit. I will say the 14 3/4 is larger diameter than the stock - so you might find some play in your steering, but nothing noticeable. I popped this into the hub (fit perfectly) http://ebay.to/1X1qJvL .

Some of the items you're looking for just need a deep google search.

http://www.searay-parts.com/ is of course a good.obvious resource for obscure items.

A good starting point for your fridge shelves: http://thenorcoldguy.com/

Oval badging and decals - I replaced mine from ebay a few years ago - pay really close attention if you decide to replace the Sundancer at the color combo and font style so that it matches - a few variants out there and a few bad copies too. I would try dealer too.

Good luck!

Thanks Marc - I ended up going with this wheel... fits really nice and matches the lighter color faux wood dash inserts of my model. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-OEM-Gus...inum-Faux-Butterscotch-Burl-rim-/331628770054

Ordering the SeaRay cap tonight... nice touch.

Wife is flipping out when on the boat with our 2 year old. She just can't relax. Worried the little one will just fall out. I'm thinking of putting up some webbing or something along the sides to make things safer. Any ideas?

We have a camper enclosure, but it gets so damned hot.

Hi - I'm a brand new owner of a 2005 260DA. Bought bc this was a great family boat w plenty of cockpit seating. Issue is with the stereo system. Boat came w the std stock Clarion XMD3 (not the premium) It will not power on. I have read dozens of forum posts, and have reviewed the wiring diagrams in the manual. I have installed car stereos as a kid. I have opened panels and found the correct wires per the diagram. I need you experienced 260DA owners to please help tell me where these in-line fuses for the stereo are located. Are they closer to the stereo unit, or back near the batteries? There is something I thought was the memory power fuse beneath the wet bar, but it was not a fuse. If in the engine bilge, near the batteries or the buss? Really need your experience here for this newbie owner to get the tunes going. Thank you.

Under the wet bar is the stereo memory breaker. Make sure it is not tripped. I am not sure where the fuses are. I think they are behind the unit. There are 4-screws in the black board that the stereo is mounted in. Pull them and then carefully pull the board out to gain access to the rear of the stereo. They are likely back there. I had an issue where my cabin speakers would not work. Got to the back of the unit, reseated the plug and no more issues.

Welcome and good luck!

Bennett

Silly question, but are you sure you have the stereo switch in the on position?

Thank you for the quick responses (!) Yes, stereo breaker switch is on for testing. I have removed the black panel that holds the stereo unit and CD changer. Disconnected the cabin light switches and pulled out. Disconnected harness from radio, but could not see any in-line fuses before the wires went into a black tube. If they are supposed to be there, I will look again. In reading a bunch of similar threads on this specific topic, it seems these fuses are being found both near the stereo and in the engine compartment but the models are not always clear. I've checked both pretty thoroughly, but before I start really dismantling things further thought I would see if there is experience / knowledge with where the Sea Ray factory typically put this on a 2005 260DA. Though I have lots of inshore/offshore sailing experience (@ 23, 36, 40, 52 feet), this is my first powerboat ownership experience. Going to keep trying bc my girls need tunes on the boat. <grin> (Have just been cleaning this week – since sea trial - while waiting for title and reg to complete.) Newbie question: Does the ignition typically need to be on to get tunes on a 260DA?

The key does not need to be on, at least on mine.
Make sure the battery switch is on also.

Key does not need to be on. Make sure the stereo breaker is turned on in the 110v/12v electrical panel.

With that breaker, not sure a fuse is necessary. There is a fuse panel under the steering wheel, but checked my schematic today and no mention of stereo. Might confirm 12v at the breaker.

Got a couple new ideas to check here. Thought I had verified the amps at the breaker, but am going to verify again TH night after work. I agree, helm fuse block is for electrical items w/o a breaker.

The fuse to my stereo is behind the unit. There may be more under the cockpit sink, but the only one I remember seeing there was for the mercathode system. Power should go from the battery switches breaker panel to the AC/DC panel to the head unit. Check voltage at each point and troubleshoot from there. You'll have two powers (yellow, memory power and red, accessory power). They'll both need 12v.

Thanks importmonkey. I think that the right spot, and I found a photo of a xmd3 and the fuses were clearly visible on the red and yellow lines. The bundle of wires I have behind the stereo panel looked very "factory organized" but it is possible the fuses were taken out by the prior owner. (I am the 2nd owner) Time to test some circuits, and if there is power, a new head unit. Thanks for everyone's input.
Took the boat out today for it's maiden voyage or w/o a surveyor or broker aboard. She ran great, and didn't seem to use that much fuel. Still some practice needed for docking (moving up from a borrowed 21' Grady WA). Enjoyed the nice big cockpit w plenty of comfy seating for 6.

Hello fellow SR 260 Sundancer Members,

We have owned our Sea Ray for approximately one year. This is our first post, however I have read all the prior posts and learned so much. So, I would like to add two bit of knowledge I have gained.

Air Conditioning Air Flow - We had much more air flow to the aft cabin than the forward cabin. I opened the A/C access panel in the aft cabin to inspect the A/C unit. I found the aft cabin flex hose was connected the end face of the discharge air plenum. The forward cabin flex duct was connected to the side of the plenum box and was getting much less air flow.
I reversed the two flex hoses and now have much larger air flow to the forward cabin which is needed here in Arizona.

VHF Ray 215 NMEA 0183 Data Input - I installed a Garmin ecHoMAP 53dv chart plotter which has a NEMA 108 output blue wire with ground black connection. The Ray 215 radio has NMEA 108 blue positive and purple negative lead wires. My Ray 215 had only a red positive and black negative connected at the fuse panel. I found the blue and purple wires under the shrink tubing for the Ray 215 wiring at the fuse panel under the steering wheel. Beeping Ray215 alarm is GONE.

Loved my 260 for 12 years now. Look forward to hearing other's experiences.

I purchased a 2006 260 DA and love it! Still learning my way around the electrical systems. Question: on the Main DC Breaker panel beneath the cockpit sink, there are breaker switches for battery chargers #1 and #2. Should these be "on" for the battery chargers to work when I turn on the battery charger switch on the AC distribution panel in the cabin? Trying to understand the relationship between the two sets of battery charger switches.

Welcome aboard! We are on the 3rd summer with ours and have used it a lot.

Yes. All of those breakers should be on unless you have an issue and one trips. Battery Charger #1 means your #1 battery, which is normally your cranking battery, and Battery Charger #2 means your #2 battery which should be your house battery. The breakers are there for protection. If something were to short out or draw too many amps, the breaker under the cockpit sink will trip . They are 12 volt breakers where the one in your cabin is the 110v breaker for the charger itself.

Your batteries will not charge unless those breakers are in the on position.

Ask away as you have questions.

Bennett
