In the process of buying a 1978 240 Sedanbridge . Other than it has a OMC out drive I think its a good deal. $1000 with trailer. Going to find out today if it runs and floats. Anybody know were I can find out more about these out-drives and or if parts are still available since they are out of business.

Money Pit, you will spend more time repairing, searching for parts, than you will enjoying the boat.
Pass on this one.

I'd also recommend passing on that boat. There are too many things that can go wrong with the OMC leg and they're very expensive to fix...if you can find parts.

You're looking at a boat that's 34 years old and has an important component that isn't made any more and parts are getting hard to find. I'd suggest looking at something newer with a lower unit you can still buy parts for. In the long run you'll find it much cheaper.

It sounds like a lot of work, but if you are mechanically inclined and have 5k - 10k to throw at the boat, it would sound like a good project to tackle.

I'm with you on this. You won't be restoring to get your money back but it might be a fun labor of love. Assuming it floats and it's not rotten, just get a new motor and outdrive and have fun.

I think there's a guy in Washington state that still sells OMC parts. If you get the boat let me know and I can track down the contact info.

If adventurous you can always swap the OMC out for a Mercruiser or aftermarket SEI.
Takes a bit of transom work but can be done. We swapped out a pair of Volvo's on our race boat; refitting with Mercruiser Bravo's. Basically replace transom core from inside, fill outer hole in fiberglass if larger than new opening then cut new outdrive hole. Like others have said, it depends on the time and money you want to put into it. If you enjoy the restoration work it is well worth it in the end.

We ended up buying it, well I did anyway I'm lee's son. Do you have the contact info for the guy in Washington still selling OMC parts? Other than the engine, does anyone know anything about these boats? Has anyone restored one at all or in the process of?

Swapping out the engine doesn't scare me to much, however I'll wait till the current one dies. The important part of this deal was the trailer since my friend has a 24ft renell and mom and dad also have a 24ft we will put the thing to good use, and the 78 SRV240 is my play toy...

Congrats on the purchase, I am looking forward to you restoration. do you have any pics yet?

We just got it home and parked, I've done the inventory and almost all of the electronics work except for the blower, the horn (what do i ever need that for anyway lol ;), and the spotlight which actually works just doesn't move so i'll have to figure out whats up with that. other than that it needs some major cleaning as it is very dirty and there was a rodent infestation. I'm thinking about ripping out all the carpet and all of the cushions will be re-upholstered with marine vinyl, going to use the fake teak vinyl flooring on the inside and either nu-teak or flexi-teak on the outside... what do you all think? some other little odds and ends will be the stereo and the courtesy led lights all over the boat. thats just a start so i can get it in the slip for this boating season. pictures will be up tomorrow when its light out and I officially start the restoration with sanding teak and cleaning lol.

I'll start a dedicated post for the restoration tomorrow and put the link up here.

Looking forward to seeing the before and after pics
Suggestion...
Mechanical and functional comes before comfort and beauty
