2023 Springtime Shine thread

Bringing up foam cannons, I decided to try out a cheapy Harbor Freight one (under $20). Used it for the first time on the boat yesterday. I'm sold. Way easier than dragging a bucket up on the deck. View attachment 144668

I bought one of these last week. I'll use it for general washing boat/cars, but my first use was on the boat canvas. I leave the canvas covers on the boat, and used the soap cannon to soap it down real good - I use Ivory Liquid or Woolight - bush and rinse - man this thing worked great!

I honestly don't know how any of you guys my age run a polisher like you do on these larger boats. There's no way I could do two days of that physically, and get up and do anything meaningful for a week. My shoulder, elbow, back, and knees hurt just watching the young guys do mine.

I’m getting to the point I just don’t want to do it anymore….. fortunately I have a company that’s doing a descent job. I would be back at it myself if not

Carefull, you’ll be accused of whining.

Whiskey, Motrin and weed vape. Not necessarily in that order

I would like to do this job myself, and have before, physically I know it would wear me down, and I'll probably be at the orthopedic the following week. I have other sports related activities I like to do during the week, I'd like to stick to them and not end up out for 6 months.

If you are indoor stored over the long northern winter, it’s easy to peck away at it

I dedicate a couple of weekends to it before I splash, prioritizing the hull with 2 coats of fleetwax (and my back!). After I'm in the water, I just tackle it in pieces.

That was me last year. I did the hull in the fall before I was packed in like sardines then worked on the deck off and on over the next 5 months. The only thing I was under the gun to do quickly was the bottom paint. Couldn't do it indoors and it had to wait until the boat was moved outside which was only a week before splash. I shouldn't have that concern next year. The bottom paint should hold up for 2 seasons.

Put a shine on the ships bell. That was easy! 10 minute job.

Previous Owners name for her. As the story goes one spouse is from USA and one is from Canada, thus USA US "Eh".

I am too lazy to rename her, and it's a dockside conversation starter, so so far I like it.

You are a messy painter ;-)

That was my rental condo in Michigan when I went paint crazy and no wife to tell me to cleanup my mess….. I spent hours cutting paint out of the carpet to get my $2,000 security deposit back…. It worked

Well I caved and paid ($$$) to have the blue professionally polished. It had so many swirl marks I never thought it would shine again. I was able to do the white last year so I thought I would have them skip that and do it myself. While I won’t say it looks new, I can say they did a great job. Before and after pics below, which don’t do it justice. After splash I’ll do the white at my dock. I tried to have them do it but they ran out of time right now - took them 2 days just for the blue.
