2023 Haul Out

Last cruise of the season to storage. Ran to her winter home in 3 foot swells with stiff west wind pushing us all the way. A couple of pics to make sure it happened…lol. This is what the weather forecasters in Chicago call partly sunny..hahahaha. The one with the city in the back ground turned out looking pretty cool IMO.

Are you heading to B&E? We were hauled out today.

Nothing like adding a little stress to the mix on the last run of the season. It's been a cold, windy, wet week. I guess the season really is over :)

This just means you pulled out at the exact most optimal time. Not too early. Not too late.

Congratulations!

For all you diesel cold weather guys. I will be taking the boat out this year. I usually only winterize the fresh water system as we leave the boat in the water.

I have a pretty good idea what to drain on the engines but just wanted to hear from the Cummings diesel guys what all you drain to insure the blocks are empty.

I will be pulling the after coolers sometime in December to have them serviced.

I have the gen and AC covered.

It freezes there?

On the 6cta’s, the blocks are filled with coolant, to drain the coolant for a coolant change, there is a petcock on the bottom of the engine oil cooler.
To drain the raw water side of MY BOAT with the boat out of the water, pull the plug on the sea water strainer, the bottom anode plug on the aftercooler and drain the muffler. Leave the plugs out for the winter and the sea cocks open. Everything self drains when I lift the boat out of the water through the shaft seals down to the level of the gear cooler where the shaft seal hoses hook up. The only water left is the residual amount in the bottom of the aftercooler and what is in the muffler.
FWIW, most of us just pull the hose off the sea water strainers and stick it in a 5 gallon bucket full of -50 pink and start the engines. I pour one extra gallon of pink into the bucket while the engine is sucking out the initial 5 gallons for a total of 6 gallons. When the bucket’s empty, your done. If you do it this way, pull that bottom plug on the aftercoolers to drain the pink out of it before you remove them to service them or you will get pink all over when you pull the hoses off. The aftercoolers hold about a quart of water/pink after the rest drains out through the shaft seals and back through the fuel cooler, raw water pump and out the intake hose.
I emphasize MY BOAT, because, well, that’s my boat, your sundancer layout might be slightly different, but I doubt it as the 410 EC with 6cta’s that used to be on our dock was exactly the same when he/we winterized that.

Took the boat over for Monday morning haulout today. What a drag.

Wind blowing like crazy, barely made it out of my slip. The Straights was angry for sure...big rollers.

Made it up the river and tied off.

Sad day in America

I just went the other way. Now whether it gets sold or not is a completely different discussion….

I’m out too. Hit the side of the well when the wind blew me crooked. Sucks. But will be starting my winter project list in about a week. :)

That's the thing that sucks about my marina. They are completely closed, with no boat access, from November 15th through March 15th. My winter projects get done in the spring.

With luck I will be out this weekend.

Our travel lift guy is reallygood. Knows just how far to lower the straps per boat so when we pull into well, the boat slides onto the straps tight then he immediately hits the up button. When i pulled last sunday it was windy and i was concerned about the wall, but this guy made it so easy.

So much for the warm fall. I stayed on the boat last night and woke up to frost on the docks. Slipperier than seal shit on an iceberg. No wonder the AC heat was running so much last night.

What VHF radio (I think that's what that is) is that in your 3rd pic?

We came out last Friday (October 13th). The crew at AHC does a great job but I have a tight squeezeView attachment 152878View attachment 152877View attachment 152876 on the port side.
Love that year and model, good looking boat.
