2023 Haul Out

Good to hear you st Clair people all saw each other…. all I saw was Brent and Great Lakes wake me……and I was up there for 2 weeks

I’m out the 23rd agreed on a date today…… I’m trying to go to Oktoberfest on PIB this weekend but the weather is trying really hard to ruin that

I guess I'm the oddball here. I'm actually putting my 13 back _IN_ the water tomorrow, since we keep our slips until Halloween.

Today we had a freak 80-degree day here in Boston. I snuck in an ocean lunch and dink ride.

Last run this week, she’s sitting in the haul out slip for tomorrow morning. It’ll 88* tomorrow but I’d rather winterize when it’s warm.

Thankful for a trouble free season and lots of good time at the beach.

Perfect...The weather overall has been the best of the summer the last few weeks and you're getting out just in time.

It sure has! Just finished winterizing everything in the 85* weather. At least the hoses are plyable at these temps!

Couldn’t help myself for a last dinghy run again today as well, just too nice for october to pass up

And then 2 hours later…

curious how other parts of the country do it (assuming you winterize, maybe not if it's heated) - do they winterize the engines while it's in the slings and then block it inside?
I don’t winterze now, I’m in heated storage. When I was in the cold building I would dump 4 gallons of blue in each strainer with the engines running while they power washed the boat in the slings, then it was put into the building. I have closed cooling so once it came out the exhaust I was good.

cool, makes sense. It seems about 50/50 around here whether the indoor heated folks winterize or not.

I do all oil and filter changes (fuel & oil) a week or 2 prior to haul out. Run the antifreeze thru the engines once i am on the hard. Fresh Water system, usually while still in the slip.

Our yard here is very accommodating. Many boaters winterize the engines in a few minutes while it’s hanging in the slings over the haul out well. In the past I have had them block it outside and then I play with it for a week or so washing and waxing, last year I resealed the deck joint then winterized it and then they put it inside. They will pretty much will handle it anyway you want them to.
This year the weather was so good that I cleaned everything while in the slip then winterized everything except the motors. When we got to the marina where I store, I told him I wanted 45 minutes and he could put it in the building. He hauled it, washed the bottom, set it on the trailer and parked the trailer off to the side and said “take all the time you want”. By the time the next boat was in the slings and they started pressure washing, we were done with the 3 motors and on our way to the building. I think the other boat got blocked outside just using the travel lift because after they pulled out from under ours, they left the trailer right in our building, but if they need the trailer for the other boat, I think it would have been seamless.

I pulled today after some schedule changes. Beautiful day, but a bit windy out of the south.

As I approached the marina, I saw no lift in the well, but saw it out in the yard. My wife told me from the dock to pass by and she'd call me in a few. The fuel dock was full.

It was for the best as I was now approaching into a stiff wind and found it easier than having my stern blow around.

Anyway...another one in the books. Gonna try to get it wrapped next week and then I'm off to Florida Sunday.

I’m going back in next weekend hopefully. Finally getting a break from the 100+ degree heat index days. Looking forward to running sans biminis and not dying

I’m out as of this morning. Boat hasnt moved since 7/19. Would not get on plane. Bottom was surprisingly clean but the ss prop was a barnacle mess. I’ve never painted a ss prop before. Does anone paint props? What do you use?
Wife is retiring 12/31/23. Next year is gonna be great. Mon thru Fri travel the Bay. Stay in slip on weekends. No more weekends dealing with jetskis, cops, covid boaters, speed zones, sailboats zigzagging in the navigable channel.
Gonna be great!
I have in the past, I used Pettit zinc spray worked pretty well and was cheap. Some say rust-oleum spray works well and is cheaper but never used it. I was going to put prop glide on the the current boat but the marina mechanic told me it didn’t work well in Texas weather. Now I just pay a diver to clean the bottom 2-3 times a year. He also replaces zinc as needed. Makes the boat go faster 1-2 mph at cruising speed. Since it is southern Texas it never freezes and the boat stays in the water year round.

The wind was howling yesterday on our side. What about for you? Kind of tricky or are you in a protected area?

It was really rippin' on Saturday, not quite as bad yesterday. We had mini white caps on the river as we drove up though.

Fortunately it was coming almost fully from the west which puts me firmly on the wall at my storage facility. I've had years with a nasty east wind which makes sticking to the wall quite tricky. Especially if there's nobody there to catch a line...
