2013 CSR Carolinas Coastal Rendezvous

That's how the weather was for us when we went to Charleston a few weeks ago. We had 1 day of nice weather. I know we NEEDED the rain, but I'm ready for some nicer boating weather...

BIG difference getting hung up in a 360 verses a 240!!! But then you know that. haha
How is the new boat treating you? Marti looks so tiny up on the bow in your picture.

Really enjoying it! Everything is magnified, from space, to cost!! The run to Charleston was very nice, except for the tornado warning we drove through. She burned just a tad more fuel than the 240 did when we made the run a couple of years ago. 220 versus 120.

About 110 miles each way. We would run about 22 knots for an hour, then bring her back to around 1400 rpm's, which was around 6-7 knots for an hour. We had a strong head wind coming back, so I had to burn more fuel. Calibogue sound wasn't too bad, but Port Royal sound was a tad choppy. Weather was horrible both ways. Glad I had the bigger boat for those sounds!!

Well I've give a quick report.... we talked it over and had to face the fact that we had already committed to this weekend - we had both gotten Friday and Monday off work and it was too late to take them back... if we didn't at least try, we would have sit at home wondering the whole weekend if we should have, and wasted two vacation days that we could not take back. So we made the trip. Yes it rained a lot, but there were times of good weather too. Saturday afternoon was nice and so was Sunday afternoon. We put the camper top up and had to sit out the rain several times, but it would end and then open up to nice weather for awhile in between the storms.

We stayed at Rivers Edge Marina on Friday and Sunday, but spent Saturday on the hook in a little cove off the ICW that had a nice view of the Ravenel Bridge. Saturday night was tough for me and I got little sleep. We were in protected waters so the waves were not bad, but most of the night experienced very high winds. I think the NOAA report on the VHF said 25 knot winds gusting to 35+... whatever it was, we got hammered pretty good and I was worried about the anchor holding at times. The Admiral slept like a baby while I slept in a semi-conscious partially awake mode all night and never really rested. I had a great nap Sunday afternoon in good conditions to make up for it.

We discussed the adventure on the way back and decided that we had been fortunate in a way and did enjoy the time there. The stormy weather kept the temperature down and helped us sleep at night (we do not have A/C). For awhile Sunday we had typical Charleston summer humid heat in full sun with no wind and it was quite apparent that if that had been the weather we would have been miserable trying to sleep without A/C... so I'm not complaining about being a little wet at times. All in all, we will love to do it again - but in spring or fall, not mid-summer.

220 gallons vs. 120 gallons?
