2012 190

Just a few more weekend outings left, and I passed 152 hours today! A few Sea Ray "first-timers" who seemed to love the 190! :)

I am at 100 hrs and she runs like new. great little engine. As far as my depth sounder not working...took some steel wool to the small metal circle on the transducer and all is well now. Weird because I wash it after every outing but hey, glad it works now.

Well, between this weekend's forcast for 62 degree weather, and an upcoming period of a few weeks when the boat ramp will be out of commission due to dropping water levels (there's a hairpin turn in the ramp when it gets this low), it looks like I'm done for the season. Already working with my dealer to get some things done. Besides the full service and winterization, I need to have some production/quality control things fixed which popped up a year ago - but the dealer suspects won't be covered by Sea Ray because I waited too long. Ugh. One of the items is a dead front bow speaker. He thinks it's just a faulty wire, so my fingers are crossed. I've have the Rockford Fosgate upgrade - but while it's in the shop I'm considering having the RF speakers from the SLX line (the ones used in the 190 and 205 are different) installed. Just have to measure the depth first to make sure they fit before I buy them on eBay. I like the metal finish grill on them, hopefully doing a little project like this will keep me excited about my 190, and scratch that new boat itch. :) Also thinking about adding two RF 6" tower speakers (that match the cockpit ones), but the dealer said I'd need to install another 2 channel amp, so I'm on the fence and doubt I'll do it.

Norcalglenn, I had the regular system in my boat. replaced the speakers with some deep 7" alpines. depth fit was no problem, just had to cut out the hole size. Also added a fosgate 4 channel amp and it sounds great....however, to do it again I would probably install some JL audio speakers and sub for even better sound quality but I stayed on budget lol. I would get another speaker, unscrew the bad on and see if the speaker is the problem.

Hey Osprey. Thanks for the feedback. Coincidentally, my new speakers were delivered about an hour ago!

I actually checked all the connections, and verified that it's not a dead speaker - the one I question produced sound at another connection. All wires are connected at the amp, so I fear it's an amp issue but trust my dealer to figure it out. Here's the surprising thing I discovered during all of this: The drains in all the cup holders? They don't have drain tubes down to the bilge! So my front passenger cup holder drains - get this - ONTO the speaker wire connections on the amp which is mounted below it! How's that for a flawed design!?! And the cup holders in the bow drain to the CARPETED storage areas!

nice, cant believe they have wires anywhere near a drain. I thought the stock amp was mounted in the passenger console but makes too much sense I guess.... I mounted my amp on the wall behind the bench seat, battery side. Maybe there is some corrosion at the amp connections? Nice speakers, let me know how they sound! Oh, Have you seen the new 240 sundeck? gotta see it in person.

Osprey, I'd love to see the new 240 Sundeck, but there's no dealer in Northern California (that I'm aware of) which carries them. My dealer is great, but they don't stock Sea Rays. Bayliners yes, but they're more of a Chapparral dealer. My 190 is the only one they've had thru, and mine was a special (custom) order. Speaking of the 190, I saw this picture of the 2014 - new graphics and it appears green will be available. I also think the two tone gel option will below the waterline now?

Thanks Osprey, it took a while for Velvet at a Sea Ray to agree to doing the patina gel coat. I had to wear her down. :) My boat was built in early February of 2012, and shortly thereafter Sea Ray did some 'tweaks' which I liked - which I then retrofitted to my boat last winter (I get bored). I put the stainless windshield latch on, and so switched to the new tower Bimini which no longer has straps that clip to the base of the windshield. This winter's projects are to fix the stereo (have had a dead bow speaker for a year) and upgrade the speakers - but the ones I bought are too small for the factory cutout. Both are 6.5s but the ones used in the SLX (which I bought) have a smaller diameter chassis. Oh, well. Also, the strut on my sunpad (over the transom walk-thru) is loose at the deck attachment. There are three screw holes on the strut, but only two screws were used - and one of them was put in an an angle and is now stripped, so it's been loose all winter. Taking it to the dealer, and I hope SR will cover the cost of fixing it (since it was never properly attached, etc). Fingers crossed on that one. :)
