"......Old Sage"? Does that mean I have to grow a long white beard?

You mean this isn't you?

I'm curious Rick, how much, if any, difference did the 8.1's make over the 7.4's?

I can't tell any difference at all. Runs the same, handles the same, burns about the same amount of gas. I change the fluids when I am supposed to and go when and where I want to go. Sorta like driving a Corvette. You stop for gas when its empty.

7.4 were Horizon 380HP X 2 = 760 HP
8.1 are 370HP X 2 = 740 HP

Rick can tell you more if there was a Trans change and prop change.....I think they both produced similar torque.

No change on the trannys.

Wheels went from 21 x 21 to 21 x 22.

Have you weighed the boat when it's on the lift? I was blown away by what my weight was with the CAT's. It was over 27,000 lbs with 1/2 fuel, little water, no provisions or bodies. Next time I am hauled I will request the weight documented, I'm curious to see the difference in weight between gas & diesel. My friend has the same setup as you and his swim platform is about 5 or 6 inches higher than mine.

Didn't realize the 7.4's had that kind of power. I was thinking of my old ones on the '93 400EC.

7.4 were Horizon 380HP X 2 = 760 HP
8.1 are 370HP X 2 = 740 HP

I have not asked the travellift guy if his scale is working. I will the next time I come out of the water. One of my dockmates has a 2000 410 with the CAT motors and his sits several inches lower than mine.

Easy, I resemble that remark!

Notice the pic in Frank's avatar....and how his stern is low in the water and pushing up soo much water. Then look at my sig pic.... and notice how my nice stealthy stern just seems to glide through the waves in the mighty Atlantic!!!

Thiis thread has taken the normal typical path.....question, answer and banter....it's what makes it real, informative and fun.....
