200 Sundeck Thread- Questions and Answers

Hi, I just joined Club Sea Ray because we are looking at a 2004 200 SunDeck. Looks like a great boat and well maintained. We love the layout and seat arrangement. I just have a couple of questions. The boat has several cracks in the gel coat. The owner said that Sea Ray repaired a few cracks under warranty, but cracks have developed after the warranty ended. Is this a major problem with this specific boat, model of boat or brand of boat? Is this a common problem?

I have looked at several videos on how to repair gel coat cracks and it looks like they can be fixed with a little effort.

Also, does anyone ever actually use that porta potty?

Thanks for any feedback.

Jerry

Hi Jerry, First things first welcome to the forum and yank the porta potty and use it as a float! Gelcoat Cracks? I have not heard of anyone having issues that are from design or major issues. I have repaired some of my own on my first boat years ago and it was fine. The professionals that do it are very well renowned and they charge a good penny but it will be 100% every time.

I took a test drive in a 2004 200 Sundeck yesterday. Awsume boat. It quickly turned into a boating course for my wife and I because we bought the boat.

We are new to boating and have a lot to learn, but a few things the previous owner said goes against what I thought I already knew. He said to set the trim at about 25% up and leave it. "Do not adjust the trim when doing over 1000 rpm because it causes premature failure of the trim pump." Is this true? I read the book and it did not say anything about this. The book did warn not to use the trailer control to adjust the trim up at over 1200 RPM because it could harm the drive linkage. But adjusting the trim at speed is the best way to optimize performance. Has anyone harmed their trim pump by using the trim too much at cruising RPMs?

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Jerry

I've been looking at it and just haven't pull the trigger yet.

About to buy that SeaDek stuff in Teak for my swim platform. Anyone try it on their 200?

Jerry,

I've only owned my 200 for a few months now; however, I have owned other boats and this is the first time I've heard only using trim 25% up. I'd be interested to see what others say.

Gents,

I'm ready for some upgrades. Where do I start? What's everyone's favorite addition?

Trim Tabs and Garmin FOR SURE! in that order!!

CT,

Thanks for the reply. Every time I read this thread, I learn something new. It seems like trim tabs are everyone's fav. A few questions: What model? How easy/difficult to install? What website to order from? Do they come with a helm remote or transom? If helm, where did you guys put it?

Looking at your pictures (great boat by the way), What is the digital reader in your engine compartment on picture label SeaRay200BR_15? Also, what are the strand of wires (red, green, yellow, blue) going to?

Helm question, did you wire anything to the extra switches on the starboard side of the helm (thru hull exhaust, acy, Wiper, water pump). Seems strange to have the switches without the options.

Lastly, has anyone made updates to their sound system? iPod connection, sub, ect.

Pictures always help. Thanks fellas.

Another question: Has anyone had any trouble with their radio remotes? My transom remote stopped working, and im not sure if its a fuse or needs replacing. Thought? I'm not even sure where the the fuse is.

Bimini Top - Does anyone have pictures of the tie & attach down points, the original owner never put it on and its been the perfect weather for it. I need to haul it out of storage and attempt to put it on. I have no idea where the front tie downs would go. I don't see any loops or places.

Thanks in advance

Hard times, does the remote have power but not adjust the radio? Or is there no power to the remote? I am not sure if there is a fuse but I have had where the RCA connection for radio controls can come unplugged from the remote.

Either way make sure both connections are solid to the back of the remote.

Went to a boat show today in Dallas just to look. I am very happy with my purchase of a Sea Ray. Looked at the builds of some of the other brands and most do not compare. Cobalt , Regal really do well. Four Winns, Chap did not impress me.

Bought a new to me 2004 200 sundeck with 5.0 alpha one with 102 hours. Top end is not there. Stops short of 40 mph according to the speedo. Any suggestions? Had sst merc 14x19 prop. Tried 14.25x21 alum prop i had too with no luck. Tune up maybe? Any suggestions?? Motor seems to run fine (no vibration) Has smart gauge which I have no idea how to use.

Old boat was a 18ft searay with 4 cylinder, so the 8 is new to me.

What are your RPM's at when you are at WOT? I would check your spped with a GPS as the speedo's in any boat are often times far from accurate. I am running a 4.3 in mine and top out over 40. I am not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination but i know there are some engine savy people on here that might offer some insight.

It appears the rpms are at 4600-4700. I will check it with gps this weekend and see where it really runs. Headed to Indian River, MI. So I will get a good feel for it. I really haven't had a chance to play with it. You know how it is when the wife makes plans for the weekend and you have a new toy to play with!

Ok so it looks like the 5.0 gets up to 47 no problem at about 4700 rpms. Next question... What should the tach read when you drop the hammer from a stop. It seems to take a while to get on plane. I also noticed the tach only reads 3500 rpms when hammer it fromdead stop. Any suggestions please!
