100hr service?

Yeah.. I got a "free meal" like tail biter... My wife brought me a McDonalds 1/4 pounder and fries.

Maybe if you weren't such a slacker, she'd have bought you the whole pound! How's that for thread integration?

We had a very likeable guy in our squadron about 10 years ago who one day sat down and composed an e-mail for everyone in the squadron taking a jab at everyones' weaknesses and sensitivities. He sent it out to all. It was a hit. I'm just bored and trying to mimic his humor...................................................

Damn John, don’t you have a President to protect this weekend or what??? Way do much time here.

I think we now have a new record, one post, one page!

He's back in DC now. VP OTUS is travelling, but that's not quite the same for us. Good news, bad news. I still have to work all weekend, but I don't have to work all night.

Does anyone know if I can do the 100 hour service myself or do I have to let the dealer do it? We have one dealer and they are terrible for service. I know more about the boat then they do.

You can absolutely do it yourself, simply follow a/the checklist. Are you asking this because of potential warranty issues if you do it yourself?

Jim T - Are you reading the dang thread?

Yes. Thank you including me in your response.

I am concerned about the warrenty. The boat is a year old and this will be it's first service. The dealer in in really bad shape and the last time I used them was for my 240 DA. It took them a month and a half to do the 100 hour service on that boat.
I am not sure if warrenty requires the dealer do the service. I am fully able to do my own.

Keep a written record. Keep receipts for parts. Documentation is the key.

Fwebster states that any Mercruiser dealer should be able to handle it, which is absolutely sound advice (as usual). This is what I would do, given my personal time constraints, etc.

However, I like Lt. Colonel Hampton’s advice too. This leads you in the direction of turning the wrenches yourself, but keeping absolute detailed records of what you have done. A judge would consider this as “a reasonable accounting“, with respects to most manufacturer's requirements. If you do it yourself and have the notes to support it, you should be good to go.

Either way, and with respect, I would encourage you to consult a Harbrace Handbook prior to posting anything else on CSR. Otherwise you run the risk of Four Winns ridiculing you for improper sentence structure, punctuation or other said heinous writing errors, which may become problematic for you in the future.

Best of luck,

C-

Promocop - I'm surprised you went ballistic. Mellow out man, life's too short.

Gary - Go back to your corner; the bell hasn't sounded yet.

Uplate - Subtle jab, and slightly below the belt. 1 warning.

FWebster - too mellow. Have a shot and jump in the fray.

Arid 240 - Now you're getting the hang of it.

Turtle Tone - Who died and appointed you mediator?

Impulse - Not very impulsive. Join Frank in a drink.

Vince - Now you know why the 340 is much better than the 320 for the do-it-yourselfer.

Chuck - You're not supposed to funny in this thread.

Glock - Thread creeper - back on topic - this is about bitchin'.

Hack - Mild sarcasm; + 1/4 lazy ass point.

L & L - Who cares?

Mag - Salty snob.

B/B - If I had that boat, I'd be putting new oil in it every freakin day.

Deniska - Did we answer your question or what?

John D - Read Frank's post about running shallow.

Smiley - Just 'cause it broke once doesn't mean you have to fix it every year.

Fishnut - Good advice. -1.

JV - So?

Jim T - Are you reading the dang thread?

Tonka - I don't have anything to say. Go back to your toys.

Groucho - Now that's good advice - just F--- it.

TM - Nice hit and run.

Bolts - Yes Sir!

2fish - Thread creep - mildy irritating; +1.

If I didn't offend you, f--- off! Now go back to bitch slapping eachother as scheduled.

haha... that's funny

Just to confirm what was said above in regards to having service work done (I'm a dealer saying this):

Yes, you can do any maintenance work yourself and not void warranties - follow advice above about record keeping. Probably won't need it, but CYA.

Correct, engine warranty work does not have to be done by a Sea Ray dealer. It can be performed by a "mom & pop" Merc dealer - as long as they are "Mercruiser Certified".

Thank you. You certainly answered my question. Hawaii is one of the most inconvient places to get things done and even harder to get a good mechanic. I do all my own maintenece for that reason.
