Went to the marina today. Those nuts holding the helm seat bolts were exactly where you said they were! Thank you! Now the 'boat mechanic' will have better access to the side panel to get at the shift mechanism and cable to replace. Might as well replace the throttle cable too since the boat is...
Now I know exactly what you're talking about now. That storage goes way back, it's where we store life jackets etc. I'll get to the marina in a few days and I bet you hit a home run! I'll let you know.
I can slide the helm seat forward and access one screw on the base, but there are three screws per side on this bench seat. There is no access to the screws through the aft facing portion of this seat; it's separate.
First of all, thanks in advance. Lots of great threads in this forum.
I have a 1997 Sea Ray 270 Sundancer with 7.4L mercruiser and need to replace the shift cable. In order to do this, the large panel adjacent to the helm needs to be removed, but you can't remove this without first removing the...
Did you ever find the right size steering cable for your boat? I need to replace mine too (after replacing p/s pump and actuator) and would like to have the right size BEFORE I pull the old one out (mechanic is doing this)....but it's not a Sea Ray mechanic (stealership).
I have a 270 also, a...
Can you just unhook the cable and see if the steering wheel is free? Or do you have to disconnect the pin at the end of the linkage and not disconnect the end of the cable? This is prior to the power assist.
I have a similar problem > hard to steer and reservoir is fine, belt is tight (I'll...
I have same problem but will have a mechanic check it this week (I hope).
Level is spot on 'cold' but a little low 'hot.' Not sure what that means.
My mechanic may check the cable because my boat has never had the steering cable replaced.
I almost had 'near disaster' this weekend and NEVER want to be there again. After having my 1997 Sea Ray 270 DA dewinterized and water tested, I decided to take a 'check out run' first to make sure everything is running ok. After a quarter mile, water was entering the bilge and I quickly...
I've read posts on winterizing here. Feel pretty confident to do this myself adding the RV antifreeze. Don't use the water tank, so I'll add to the supply line that by-passes the fresh water holding tank and open faucets, just using head pressure to get enough in there.
My question is how to...
I see you have a SS prop. I've been told you can do more 'internal' damage with a SS prop if you hit so hard. However....you say you feel no vibration. I'm inclined to go along with TOBNPR.....however, if you notice no slip.....>>> time to call for help, it may be in the gearbox.
1997 Sea Ray 270. My rocker arm switch for my windlass is 'going out.' Sometimes I get it to shut off after hitting it repeatedly. Never used to do this before. I've troubleshooted with a multimeter and ready to replace it. Trouble is what do I need? West Marine has about 10 to choose from. I...
Could be my problem....a cracked nipple on the suction side...you can't see the crack if it's facing away from you. You may try using a mirror and check all around this 1.5 inch nipple. Trying to find the nipple now though.
Anyone know where I can get the 1-1/2 inch nipple that is on the suction side? Mine is cracked and Home Depot doesn't carry 1.5 inch NPT nipples. I replaced the duck bills only to find later the crack in the nipple. Man....is this head thing...this suction thing...a pain in the prop!
Heh guys....where can I get a 1-1/2" NPT closed nipple for the vac flush? Mine's cracked and Home Depot doesn't carry this. Sealand Services? Heck....this marine plumbing is a pain in the prop! Already replaced the duck bills and now I need a nipple. (That doesn't sound right.)
Replacing duck bills didn't solve the 'cycling issue.' I really hesitate to replace the bowl valve and seal because that means taking apart the head completely to replace. I bought the assembly with the duck bills though. Vaseline didn't seal it. I may try a little vegetable oil...and if that...
Truck parts store! That's the ticket. When I replaced mine (I brought in the blade assembly)....the guy wanted to know if it was a replacement for a Freightliner!
