need help with steering cable size

Hello All :smt001 I own a 1989 sundancer 270 with twin 4.3 liter v6's and alpha one out drive's it has power steering. My question is can anyone help me locate the the steering cable size ?? Searay has told me they used 3 cables that year 17.5, teleflex 15.6,merc or 17.6 merc how can i find out which one I have ? without talking it out.... I would like to pull out the old cable with the new one attached to to it :smt001 it would be much easier. Thanks in advance FOR ANY HELP

jon i just had my steering cable changed on my 99 24 sea ray dancer.tie a line to your old cable and pull it through. its easier with help. measure it,and read the number off old cable ,you will know for sure, good luck.

Did you ever find the right size steering cable for your boat? I need to replace mine too (after replacing p/s pump and actuator) and would like to have the right size BEFORE I pull the old one out (mechanic is doing this)....but it's not a Sea Ray mechanic (stealership).
I have a 270 also, a little different.
