Hi,
Looking at purchasing 1999 340DA with 7.4's and V drives. A few questions to start:
I have heard about a design flaw in the exhaust that needs to be addressed... does this apply to this vintage? These engines have approx. 1000hrs with new risers and manifolds.
What do I need to be looking...
Hi,
Neglected to finish up this thread...
I did the readings and everything was 110 to the boat. We put her in the water and plugged her into 30A shore power and voila... 110 indicated on the AC meter. I don't know why the difference when plugged in at the shop.

hi,
290 DA is plugged in to 110v plug. The AC panel is only reading 70v... is this normal? I have never plugged to the house before. On marina power it is always 110v indicated.
The batteries are all fully charged (from battery charger not boat charger), all three at 12.6 - 12.7... c-charger is...
My buddy has an 07 DA. He is trying to find the source of a leak that results in wet cabin carpet. What are potential spots? Thinking the galley sink drain line at the through-hull, but can't seem to be able to get to it to check it (any idea how to get the partition out of the way?). The cabin...
Hi Folks,
Just replaced our 240 SD with a 290... awesome boat :smt038 My question is this:
Boat ran fine during sea trial; no issues at all. put the boat on the trailer, drove it 600 miles (some bumpy road included) and put it in the water... port starts fine, stbd no start. No fuel pump...
Hi Folks,
Just sold our 240 'dancer and we are now looking at a 1999 290 (5 footitis hit hard shortly after buying the 240!)...
Anyone with the propane stove option have any issues with it?
Boat appears to be in good general condition, worst is some corrosion on the outdrives...
Hi,
May be going to BIII... My question is what props to pick??? I only get one chance to spec 'em if it happens. What are other 240 'dancer folks with similar engine running for props? I have run the merc prop selector but want to hear from folks who actually are using the BIII on their 240...
Re: Caution:
Hi, Checked with Mercruiser; transoms are identical construction so no issues. Splines, gimbel bearings same. Looks good if I could ever get a mechanic to tear the jeezly thing apart to see if it is totalled.
Thanks for the info... I questioned the mercruiser dealer about the likelihood of the regular transom mount and the seacore having corrosion issues... he stated no. Buuuut will definately take the advise and call Mercruiser direct. The splines, as far as I can tell, match up the very best...
Deadhead... more like granite head actually!!! That dark spot forward of the drain hole is a "new" hole to drain lube from. But seriously, I have been told the lower unit is the only difference but you read/hear so many stories that I am trying to get as much verification as I can. If it...
Hi,
Hit a deadhead... lower unit may be totalled (find out for sure tomorrow). Upper looks good. Quote to replace lower unit is high enough that a complete new Bravo III seacore outdrive that a dealer has marked down is looking like a possibility. My insurance company MAY go for it 'cause it...
Hi, not sure about depth sounder but GPS sounds like could be a couple of things... a loose connector if it is dropping out at random times or it could just be a coverage issue. Check number of sats when it is "not working"... you need three to generate a position (JVII is correct... at your...
Why all the mud in the first place? I assume you were in some type of channel... were you the first boat through this season? Does the channel get dredged? If you were travelling "home waters" I would be concerned about a re-occurrance! I hope she comes through this with minimal trouble...
Hi, Sorry if I am re-asking an answered question but here goes... is my 240 as spec'd below supposed to have the mercathode system? Where would it be mounted if I have one?
Thanks for the advice... I was not sure of the cause. She has been steam cleaned stem to stern (including engine compartment/bilge) to get the macro dirt off since then pic was taken. I have to buff to get ox off and then the polish /wax treatment. BTW StarBrite boat wash did not get the drip...
Groucho... We are used to boating above the dam a few miles upstream of us; there are LOTS of deadheads. Some days you have to stand a watch! Lower river where we will be now is really good as far as deadhead risk.
Prop cost... don't want to know. I will have the sounder alarm set deep and...
