Official (1990-1993) 270/290 DA thread

Thanks, I'll check them. On another note. I bought a 60lb bag of tube sand today. I am gonna put it in the space inside the bow pulpit and see if my running attitude improves. I use a lot of tab and seem to run a bit bow high. I also ordered a 14lb delta anchor , replacing my 7lb Fortress which will never free drop from the roller without a kick.....so I'm picking up 67lbs up front....we shall see.

Tube sand. :smt038 Good idea! With the gennie, my running attitude is higher than I wish, although Sfergson says it is ok. Let me know how it works for you.

Speaking of upholstery there was a member on here that said he had material for the searays that he ordered that had the original pressed in pleats (not sewed in). Has anyone seen the thread. I can't seem to find it. Thanks

I was able to get to those last two bolts on the radar arch today and tighten the nuts up - it was a bear. I can't understand why they did not use lock nuts. As far as I can tell, they didn't even use lock washers. Maybe y'all will be luckier with who your builder was.

Can't help with the pleated upholstery q, don't even know what it looks like.

mine are lock nuts, also plates, no washers

Quint, I see you have removed the v-Berth upholst. have you started re-up yet? I did my couch last year in a biege vinyl and it came out nice. I am thinking about the updating the berth this year. I measured it last year and it seemed to be around 30 odd yards with curtains cushions bed and pillows. Where are you at? I doesn't seem too difficult to remove panels and may try to do it myself. I am getting mattress made either way with new foam, and may just put a high quality sheet fitted and stapled on top (never see it anyway) Any thoughts from group?
thanks RF

I am doing the dinette seats, backrests, and beds in beige vinyl (seaquest). The curtains and vee berth bolsters will be a lighter creme colored fabric. I am using allure faux bamboo for flooring. I will post lots of before and after pics when I am done.

Here is my interior status:

- removed dinette back rests and seat bottoms
- removed curtains
- removed vee berth bolsters
- removed vee berth cushions
- purchased 18 yds of vinyl at $15 yd
- purchased 16 yds of material for curtains and bolsters $18 yd
- I have a lady doing curtains for $100
- upholsterer agreed to $400 labor for dinette & vee berth bolsters ( dropping off vee berth cushions for additional labor quote next week)

Quint good info, I look forward to seeing the pictures. have you taken apart the v berth upholstery? Is the foam glued to the panels? I have an engine to swap first but it is on the short list. Want to do rug as well but afraid to start ripping without a concrete plan. If ambition and money are there would like to get it done this spring. thanks RF

Reluctantly I have been dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st Century. Today, I completed the install of a new TV/DVD and SeaWatch 2025 antenna. I am opposed to TV on the boat!
Actually, however, it is nice to have and it works pretty good. I'm picking up nine (9) channels and am able to get three (3) while in a covered slip (how is that possible?).
I hesitated to buy a SeaWatch 2025 based on the only reviews on the West Marine site which were both negative, but, I figured that they were two knuckleheads that screwed up the install. It was True!
I wish that y'all would quit doin' stuff to your boats, I can't keep up!:smt001

Any pictures Jerry? I need to quit doing things to the boat, bank account would look better and would have more free time.
I did new horns last week, order new bunk carpet with some more led lights this week.

No, no pictures. Just put it in the same ole place as everyone else. The 2025 antenna comes with an rf pre-amp that is kinda difficult to deal with. Big and not really a good place to put it. I'll try to get a picture of that! I have not had any experience with the pre-amp to see if it helps or not, but, it should.

Here is a tip if you have not yet done a TV install:
First, here is a pix of the "Quint4" Install:

Ok, you have to bring TV cable and a power cord thru that upholstered panel that the TV is mounted to. As you know, that makes a messy hole in the panel. To make that as clean as possible, I put a bushing in the hole to dress it up and to protect the wires.
Details:
- After deciding on the location, I drilled a small pilot hole.
- Then, I stuck the point of a 1" spade drill bit in the pilot hole and turned it while I made a trace of the circle. (You, of course, could do that with a compass)
- Using a sharp knife, I cut around the circle and removed the vinyl and backing material.
- Then, I drilled a 1" hole in the panel.
- I bought a bushing (specifics below) and forced it into the hole.
- Looks good, no ragged upholstry edges and the wires are protected. (Will try to post a picture of the finished job when I get a chance)

Specifics on the bushing:
- Home Depot SKU# 34481 06262 2
3/4" PVC Adapter (Electrical Dept)
ID is 3/4", OD is 1 1/16".
(So, you have to wiggle the spade drill around a little and tap the bushing in with a hammer.

Heres what I did about two weeks ago. It's on a swinging mount, so it's going to have two get straped down. I have the stainless hooks for a tie down to go across the front of it for wile in motion. The tv antenna box was already there from the last guy. I don't know how this is going to work out. One screw and it's off the mount and can me used in the house.

Here is a picture of the bushing installed. Used one for video cable and power into TV and one for rf pre-amp cables and power leads.

Also, I tested the rf pre-amp today in the same place on the lake. I could get 9 channels without the pre-amp. With the pre-amp, I can get 19 channels. That is the Atlanta channels plus channels in Rome, GA. Just for reference, I am about 30 miles out of Atlanta and about 40 miles from Rome.

TV install. The white box above the TV is the rf pre-amp. Sheakspeare could do a better design job with that thing-but that is that they have for now.

hello all, Im looking for advise on a stereo install.
In my 1990 270 I am taking a trunk full of supplies and tools with me to the lake this weekend for a pre install, install:grin:

has anyone installed two amps and a stereo
system in the 270 that can give advise on what to do or not to do as far as fishing wires go?

i have purchased a clarion marine system from a friend of a friend
it includes

Clarion Marine:
head unit that is
I pod ready
wired remote
CD changer
2 10"subs
4 5 1/4"compenent speakers
2 400 watt amps

I am installing the new head unit in the factory ( above the dinette ) location and plan on mounting the amps inside the stair closet or in the first dinette bench?

the 4- 5 1/4" are going in the cockpit, two in the factory location, two in the arch where the access plates are mounted?

the subs i will place in a box under the bench seat in the cockpit. and have a enclosure wrapped in vynil to match the seat so it is hidden somewhat

my main concern is can I just use a fish tape to get from stereo back to the batteries? and can i fish tape wire up and over the arch?

or should i mount the amps in the aft cabin? if i was to do that how do i get the wires ran under the stairs?

anyone got any pics of there install/in process?

Im just brain storming for ideas.
Thanks

I would put amps in the closet by the steps or the aft cabin closet. Run wires from ....head unit to closet by steps (floor of the closet comes apart).....then run behind aft cabin closet and penetrate wall to engine room. I fished new speaker wires up each side of the arch and it was kinda tough. Up and over the arch would be a real challenge. Place properly sized fuses near battery connection for your amps. Sounds like one hell of a setup!

Not sure, but I thing the speakers in the boat are already 6.5. My cause a problem when you want to just bolt them in. Sounds like an eight hour job.
