Official (1990-1993) 270/290 DA thread

I have my Dinnette cushins at the upholstery guy. He was thinking about $500 or so without foam. $1000 or so with foam. This is for the four bottoms and the two back rest pieces. Now I don't know what it's going to be for sure. He has the pieces now, just have to get that sample back to him that I want to go with.

If your going with vinly, Joannfabric's has a sale going on this weekend for 50% off with coupon at the store. Marine vinly would be $7.50 a running yard. 54 inches by 36 inches $7.50. I plane on getting a 10 yard bolt of white this weekend if they that much. If not same deal online till dec. 24 with a code. I plan on doing some headliner work.

When I replaced my bulbs, I was amazed at how many different types of bulbs were used. Here's what I wound up using, all from Superbrightleds. Cost around $200.

Radar Arch-1142 style, dual contact, side studs equal distance-G4BP-BA15D-adapter with GB4-BHP4-DAC bulb. Had to leave socket loose from holder because of length of bulb. Two of them. Blue.

Galley-1142 style- 1142-CW18-T Two of them. Cool White.

AFT & V-BERTH-67-W0 Reading type bulb, forward facing leds. Four of them. I had to reverse the wiring on about half of the lamps, some leds are polarity sensitive. Cool White.

Dinette-1156-CW45-T Leds 360 degrees around bulb and forward facing for maximum light output. Cool White. Had to reverse leads in one lamp.

Head-Used 2 WLED-CWHP15-T for the main lighting, Cool White. For the single center bulb I used a blue single led so I could leave it on all night. It gives out enough light so you can get around. It's a 24-BHP in blue.

Anchor Light-3022-CWHP4 Festoon type bulb in Cool White. Used 2, 1.21 inches long.

Cockpit-3910-B4 For the port and starboard courtesy lights. Blue festoon.

Step-BA9s-B-x-12V Blue miniature single contact bulb.

Dick270 thanks so much for the post on the lights. I'm going to get started. On the hook, I will get a low battery alarm when turning on cock pit and cabin lighting for more than 10-15 minutes has anyone else had that issue?

David, I got a quote for $250 for small removeable corner seat and the transom back rest all in the cockpit. I haven't pulled the trigger because I'm not sure about the marine vinyl. Are all marine vinyls created equally? I've sat in a new Sea Ray and seen the interior vinyl used. It is very luxurious. Soft and supple. I also sat in a deck/pontoon boat at the local Pro Bass and that boat was pretty low end. I couldn't believe how nice the seating was. That vinyl again felt nothing like my vinyl. I'm sure someone here knows the material used on late model Sea Rays.

Don: About the only thing that I know about Marine Vinyl is that the difference is that it is UV treated. There are a lot of new materials on the market that are very nice. One of them being something called Pleather. I think that it is just for interior use, but, it is nice stuff. You really have to look around. I would think that a good upholster would be a good source of information.

Some food for thought. When my cockpit was re-done, it was pleated and just a single accent stripe was used. Here is a picture:

And, of course my wife likes to play "let's add a pillow". (Man, I am so sick of pillows - would you believe that she had ten pillows on the boat. At least I got her to cut it to six).

Looks awesome Jerry. When we purchased the boat it looked brand new. In the last three years we managed to trash it. Two hours after I bought mine the cover blew off going 70mph across Oklahoma put a nice tear in the drivers seat. Since then its been one thing after another. I'd really like to understand the different choices of vinyl before I plunk the cash down.

Has any one heard of copycatcovers.com - They use Nautolux? I'll give them a call.

Don, I was amazed by how much the old bulbs drew, I never put the amp meter to it, but when I switched on the main cabin switch other things would dim or slow down. The boat is at the shop getting a rotten transom and mid-cabin supports replaced so I haven't had time to play with the new lights. I'm supposed to get the boat back the middle of next week, then I should have the engine and out-drive back in by the end of the week. Down here (Houston Tx) we can boat year round, so I'm itching to get it back in the water.

working on the midcabin vinyl. Don't know how or if I"m going to do rest of it.

BBC, you are really tearin' into to her! These boats have timeless lines and are worthy of updating for sure.

Dick are you doing the work on the transom replacement? Is there any way to post a few pictures? Tell me about the midcabin supports where are these and what was going on? I thought I had a rotten transom/stringers rot and had a few folks look at the transom. The drilled core samples from a number of places and found no issues. Thanks god. I did a lot of research and rotten transoms are very rare for this vintage Sea Ray.

Have you ever seen the David Pascoe review of these boats? It gives you an idea of the areas where you should be checking regularly for water damage. He is a marine surveyor who writes books on how to survey and post survey on the web of various makes and models. Hers the link to our make/model -

I found out I had a problem when both bilge pumps started running. It seems one of the lower bolts in the out drive had corroded into and fell out while underway. I'm having it done professionally so no pics.

If you pull out the cushions in the mid-berth you'll find the fresh water tank, a section with a sump pump for the shower drain and a/c, and some storage. The partitions in mine were rotten. My model does not have one of the plastic shower sumps, the water simply collects in the floor and the pump gets out most of it. In the future I'll be using a shop vac after each trip and get all the water out.

I was not aware of the articles, thanks for the links! I'll be reading this tonight!

Thanks! Dick

How do I vinyl around the window in the midcabin?

Very nice ! I removed those unusable wooden drink holders from my table and put new formica on both sides. It is a pretty easy update and looks better.

new vents are installed, bought some off ebay. They looks alot better.

Looks way better ! I spray painted mine. I often see nice shiny boats with yellowed vents.....but new ones or paint 'em, makes a big difference in the look of the boat.

Put a stainless steel insert in my fridge door. Plus added a Sea Ray decal just to humor myself. If I find that I don't like it, can always go back to black or white.
BTW. MR. Big BlockCutlass, can you try to do something with that picture you posted. It screws up the page so that you have to scroll back and forth. You should put your typed words under the picture. Or, maybe you had to hit "enter" after your last word.
At any rate, good find one of my vents is broken and I was looking for a replacement.
The New Vents look good.
